Gay Bullying in Highschool

Bullying in Schools: Harassment Puts Gay Youth at Risk While trying to deal with all the challenges of being a teenager, gay/ lesbian/ bisexual/ transgender (GBLT) teens additionally have to deal with harassment, threats, and violence directed at them on a daily basis. They hear anti-gay slurs such as "homo", "faggot" and "sissy" about 26 times a day or once every 14 minutes.[1] Even more troubling, a study found that thirty-one percent of gay youth had been threatened or injured at school in the last year alone![2] Their mental health and education, not to mention their physical well-being, are at-risk. How is their mental health being affected? Gay and lesbian teens are at high risk because 'their distress is a direct result of the hatred and prejudice that surround them,' not because of their inherently gay or lesbian identity orientation.[3] Gay, lesbian, and bisexual youth are two to three times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual counterparts.[4] How is their education being affected? Gay teens in US schools are often subjected to such intense bullying that they're unable to receive an adequate education.[5] They're often embarrassed or ashamed of being targeted and may not report the abuse. GLBT students are more apt to skip school due to the fear, threats, and property vandalism directed at them.[6] One survey revealed that 22 percent of gay respondents had skipped school in the past month because they felt unsafe there.[7] Twenty-eight percent ...

Summer Storm- Really funny hot gay LGBT youth film- Sommersturm

Tobi and Achim have been best mates for years. As cox and oarsman, they have lead their rowing club to win several rowing cups in the past and are now looking forward to win a big regatta in the countryside of Germany. But this trip isn't your usual summer camp experience and problems soon arise. As Achim's relationship with his girlfriend Sandra, who's also on the team, grows more and more serious, Tobi starts to realize that his feelings for Achim run much deeper than he's willing to admit to himself. He feels confused, unsure of himself and increasingly left out by his friend Alex and the team. When Sandra's best friend Anke shows her interest in him, his anxiety starts to grow. When it turns out that the much-anticipated Berlin girls' team has been replaced by a team of athletic, cliché-bursting young gay men, Tobi and his teammates are suddenly forced to grapple with their prejudices, their fears, and, perhaps, their hidden longings. As the tension grows, Tobi, Achim and the others head towards a confrontation as fierce and liberating as the summer storm that's gathering over the lake. And Tobi realizes he has to start facing some facts about himself he didn't dare to face before.

RIP Jamey Rodemeyer Thank You Lady Gaga

Jamey I am so sorry that you lost this battle you were such a sweet kid and I am so sorry that I couldnt do more to help you...Paws Up www.youtube.com Jamey Rodemeyer, a 14-year-old gay teen from the Buffalo, NY area, killed himself last weekend after what his parents say was years of bullying, WIVB reports: Soon after coming home from a family camping trip, Jamey was found dead Sunday. His parents say he was always under pressure because of struggles with his sexuality. Jamey's mother Tracy Rodemeyer said, "So he hung around with the girls a lot, so then the teasing started happening like 'Oh you're such a girl or you're gay or whatever and that bothered him for many years." Jamey's father Tim Rodemeyer said, "To the kids who are bullying they have to realize that words are very powerful and what you think is just fun and games isn't to some people, and you are destroying a lot of lives." Buffalo News adds: On Saturday night, he posted a lyric from Lady Gaga's song "The Queen" on his Facebook page: "Don't forget me when I come crying to heaven's door." Then around 1:30 am Sunday, Jamey posted two final messages to his main public Tumblr blog. One said he really wanted to see his great-grandmother, who had recently died, and one offered thanks to Lady Gaga. That was his last entry. Jamey was very active online, with a Tumblr blog, and YouTube account. He "routinely blogged about school bullying and thoughts of suicide in between upbeat posts about his pop star idol Lady ...

it gets better: wisdom from our gay elders

In response to the recent suicides by gay youth, a group of gay and lesbian elders in Boston wanted to add their voices and words of encouragement to LGBTQ youth. Madonna: 'I wouldn't have a career if it weren't for the Gay community'

In response to the abundance of recent gay teen suicides that have been linked to bullying, many celebrities have taken the initiative to make their voices heard. Madonna joined the pack on Nov. 9, 2010, when she appears on the "Ellen DeGeneres Show" with a special message. "I wouldn't have a career if it weren't for the gay community," says Madonna, via a satellite interview with Ellen. "I feel like it would be incredibly remiss of me to not say something." In her "Ellen" interview aired on Nov. 9, 2010, Madonna reveals her own personal struggles as a teen, and discloses that she, too, felt alienated in high school. "There was no group that I felt apart of -- I just felt like a weirdo," the singer admits. She also attributes the support of her homosexual ballet teacher to making her feel more comfortable in her own skin as a teen. "Everyone should have someone in their life that they can feel encouragement from," Madonna adds. In response to the rash of gay teen suicides in the news this year, artists from all over the musical spectrum have taken a stand against homosexual bullying. Most have been offering their words of encouragement through the "It Gets Better," a project designed specifically to console struggling LGBT teens.
