ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday confirmed the death of al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in an "intelligence-driven military operation" conducted by the US army, in the early hours at Abbottabad. A statement from the Foreign Office said the most wanted terrorist mastermind was killed in an operation "conducted by the US forces in accordance with declared US policy that Osama bin Ladin will be eliminated in a direct action by the US forces, wherever found in the world." The Foreign Office termed it "a major setback to terrorist organizations around the world." The statement said President Obama telephoned President Zardari on the successful US operation which resulted in killing of Osama bin Ladin. Osama bin Ladin's death illustrates the resolve of the international community including Pakistan to fight and eliminate terrorism. The Foreign Office statement said al-Qaeda had declared war on Pakistan. Scores of Al-Qaeda sponsored terrorist attacks resulted in deaths of thousands of innocent Pakistani men, women and children. Geo Headline-3 August,2011 KARACHI: Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik said Wednesday that MQM chief Altaf Hussain's concerns related to Karachi are valid and that no operation is being conducted, however, targeted action is being done, Geo News reported. Malik was chairing a meeting held at Crisis Management Cell to discuss law and order situation in the city. The meeting was attended by high rank officials including IG Sindh, Acting DG Rangers, DG FIA, FC Commander and Chairman PTA. Important decisions were made in the meeting while Chairman PTA was asked to block illegal SIMs on immediate basis. While talking to the media after the meeting, Malik said that peace will be restored at any cost in the metropolis and no body will be allowed to create havoc. Hospitals in the province are crowded with Dengue patients who complain that despite government orders there are not enough resources to treat the virus. In a step to deal with the growing number of Dengue patients in the province, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has fixed the blood test price at Rs90 in private laboratories. These laboratories have been warned of strict action if they charge excessive fees. Meanwhile Sri Lankan experts brought in to deal with the rapid spread of the virus visited different areas. They also briefed doctors and medical staff at the Jinnah hospital. The experts appealed to people to avoid repeated blood tests and not to be scared of the virus. Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry ordered Advocate General Sindh to issue orders to appoint judges for Anti Terrorism and Banking courts within two days. The bench noted the shortage of judges in Sindh province. A five-member special bench of the SC comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani, Justice Amer Hani Muslim and Justice Ghulam Rabbani is hearing the case. Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali asked why judges were not appointed even after the recommendations by the Chief Justice Sindh High Court in 2009 and 2011. Earlier during proceedings, Chief Justice, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry remarked that the report of the joint investigation team on Ajmal Pahari raised questions about national sovereignty. The Chief Justice asked the Advocate General and IG Sindh if they had read this report and if the country or government should be saved. The Chief Justice asked IG Sindh what measures he had taken after this report, since it contained information regarding the organization Pahari was affiliated with. During his remarks the Chief Justice also said Karachi was the economic hub of Pakistan and the country could not progress unless the city was secure. Geo News-15 May,2011 (Report by Geo News) LONDON: Al Qaeda Chief Osama Bin Laden had direct contact with Taliban allies and fellow Arab fundraisers at the compound in Abbottabad, British newspaper The Telegraph claimed. According to the newspaper, British intelligence agents last week joined their US counterparts to sift through the material after repeated references to Britain were found in the haul retrieved from Osama's compound when US commandos killed him this month. An Afghan Taliban commander, who has previously provided reliable information to foreign media, disclosed to the British newspaper that he had visited bin Laden at the compound in Abbottabad. He said that the Saudi terror chief also received sporadic visits from leaders of his al-Qaeda network, Taliban allies and fellow Arab fundraisers. When the commander, who asked not to be named, last saw Osama in Abbottabad two years ago, he seemed healthy and well briefed on recent developments, but concerned about his safety and money. The Sunday Telegraph has learned that Britain was one of six countries - along with the US, Canada, Israel, Germany and Spain - identified as a target for terror strikes in the intelligence haul. Officials did not disclose specific plots or threats.

Geo Headline-13 June,2011 by Geo News ISLAMABAD: A security guard was killed and three others injured in a suicide bomb attack on a private bank in Islamabad's Sector I-8. Suicide bomber tried to enter the building and upon resistance from the guard blew himself. SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam confirms it was a suicide attack. Rescue and police teams have arrived at the site of the explosion. According to Geo News correspondent at the site the front of the building has been destroyed due to the explosion. "It seems to be a suicide attack, we have found the head and the body parts of the bomber," city police chief Wajid Durrani told reporters on the spot.

Twin suicide bombings in Quetta claimed the lives of 21 people while 40 others were injured, Geo News reported. The bombings targeted security forces responsible for the capture of key Al-Qaeda operatives this week. According to DIG Police Operations Hamid Shakil, one attacker detonated his bomb-laden car outside the residence of the deputy chief of the Frontier Corps (FC) in Quetta city, before a second attacker blew himself up inside the house. More than twenty one people were killed including three FC personnel, wife of DIG FC Farrukh Shehzad, Col Khalid and two children. Forty others sustained injuries, hospital sources added. The house was badly damaged while the DIG FC himself is injured. Director Civil Defense said that more than 100 kg of explosives were used in the twin blasts. Rescue teams reached the spot to shift the deceased and injured to the civil hospital, Quetta. During investigations, head of one suicide attacker was found from the blast site identified as Ahmed Gul son of Saeed Gul. Meanwhile security forces cordoned off the area and further investigations are underway. The residence of the deputy inspector general is close to other government buildings and official residencies in the city including governor and chief minister houses while the treasury office is also located in the same area. In unprecedented scenes of rioting in the capital, buildings were in flames in Croydon, Peckham and Lewisham in the city's south, while gangs of looters roamed the streets of Hackney in the east, Clapham in the south, Camden in the north and Ealing in the west. Scotland Yard said it had deployed an extra 1700 officers to deal with the London unrest, the worst in years. Armoured cars were used to quell the rioters. Hundreds of riot police poured into Hackney to try to contain the violence in a district just a few miles (kilometres) from where the 2012 Olympics will take place in a year's time. As darkness fell, police wielding batons pushed the youths back, while local residents hoping to return to their homes were kept behind police cordons. According to details, the CID police has conducted search operation in New Karachi area. During the operation, the police has arrested Ajmal Pahari.
