Jackie Gleason was an American comedian, actor and musician. He is best known for portraying the character Ralph Kramden in the pioneering TV segments "The Honeymooners". His most acclaimed movie role was as Minnesota Fats in "The Hustler", which starred Paul Newman. He also played the role of Sheriff Buford T. Justice in "Smokey And The Bandit" movies with Burt Reynolds. Throughout the 1950s and '60s he produced a series of best-selling "mood music" albums with jazz overtones. He composed and arranged his signature song "Melancholy Serenade", the theme for his TV series. He could not read music and was said to have conceived melodies in his head and described them vocally to assistants. Bobby Hackett's trumpet is frequently heard on Gleason's albums, and some say he actually did most of the arrangements. This selection was first included in his 1964 album "The Last Dance ... for lovers only". It is also included in the CD set "The Romantic Moods Of Jackie Gleason" released in 1996.

There was no "Jackie Gleason Orchestra", at least not in the sense of a regular group of touring musicians. And Jackie could read little or no music, but what he had was a keen sense of business, and he saw a need for romantically recorded music especially during the inception of rock and roll in the mid-1950's. Gleason produced a series of albums beginning with one entitled "Music For Lovers Only" which all sold well over a million copies. Gleason reasoned that if someone like Clark Gable needed music to enhance his love scenes on the screen then "a guy in Brooklyn must be desperate". Cornetist Bobby Hackett, an alumnus of the Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller Orchestras, was often featured on these recordings including this one of "I Can't Get Started".

The song was written for the Paramount Pictures release Road to Morocco (1942) and published in 1942 in connection with the film. Vic Schoen (staff arranger for Paramount) wrote the arrangement. It's very difficult to manufacture nuclear bomb fuel, but once you have it, "it's surprisingly easy to cobble together a group of Hiroshima-style nukes," particularly in the case of suicide bombers, who become the triggering mechanism themselves, he warned. "It leaves a kind of vacuum and everything gets sucked in," and is the one true weapon of mass destruction, he said. It could be difficult to trace the origin of a nuclear attack, he noted. One scenario, called "Catalytic Nuclear War," plays off of this. A "small vengeful power creates the illusion that one of the superpowers is nuking the nations of the Earth," and this could start a devastating nuclear war between two superpowers, he detailed. The Middle East remains a region of concern, and Gleason recommended getting free from dependence on foreign oil, because we're "bankrolling people who dislike us." Moonlight Becomes You by the Jackie Gleason Orch, and featuring the full moon at 2:30 AM, with just me and the cats on the patio. The cloud formation was really unusual looking and beautiful, and made me think of this song. By the time I got the camera out it had all changed back to normal looking clouds, but a beautiful moonlit night just the same. This is one thing I find very relaxing is being outside late at night when it's quiet and enjoying the soft glow of moonlight, especially in the country.
