The news was confirmed by a statement on the golfer's official website which said: "Today, at 2.10am Spanish time, Seve Ballesteros passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home in Pedreña. "The Ballesteros family is very grateful for all the support and gestures of love that have been received since Seve was diagnosed with a brain tumour on 5th October 2008 at Madrid Hospital la Paz. "At this time the family asks for respect and privacy at such a painful time. Thank you very much. Ballesteros, 54, a five-time major winner, had been recuperating at his home in northern Spain after a series of operations since being diagnosed with two malignant brain tumours in 2008. His condition worsened on Wednesday, at which point he was admitted to hospital; rumours had swept Spain last week that Ballesteros's situation had taken a rapid downturn. On Friday, Ballesteros was under heavy sedation, with his family and friends understood to be preparing for the worst. David has since passed away (13/10/2011) and brother Tim a keen golfer with his mate Ralph is planning to hold a golf marathon each year to assist in raising money for cancer research. On the 23rd of October 2011 Bistro Cheney along with Luke, Jenny, and Toby Herriman competed and assisted in the inugrual PODS 100 Golf Marathon as a test run to find out all of the logistics and demographics in holding such an event in 2012 to raise money to fight cancer.

Golfing legend Severiano Ballesteros has died after a long battle against cancer. In a statement on his website members of his family say he passed away early on Saturday morning at his home in northern Spain. He first underwent surgery for a brain tumour in 2008 after collapsing at Madrid airport. On Friday his condition worsened seriously. Peters, Lee W. Sr. Age 64, passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 26, 2011, after a two year battle against cancer, at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, surrounded by his family. He was born December 14, 1946 in Joliet to the late Pauline (Nelson) and Robert Peters, was raised in Lockport, graduated from Lockport Central High and attended Eastern Illinois University on a music scholarship. Beloved father of Danielle (Scott) Carpenter, Lisa Peters, Lora Peters, Lee Peters, Jr. and Lisa Peters; proud grandfather of Tyler and Cole Peters; dear brother of Del (Jan) Peters, Keith Peters and Linda (Jim) O'Donnell. He was an animal lover, an avid golfer and accomplished musician (saxophone and oboe), who enjoyed woodworking.
