Here, volcanic dust and water gave birth to the Serengeti Plain and the largest concentration of grassland grazers. With the arrival of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle came a ravenous gauntlet of lions, cheetahs and wild dogs - all pulsing to the seasonal tides of rainfall and drought. Yet in the valleys below Lake Victoria, water cascades into distinctive wetland habitats ideal for hippos and flamingos. Dallol est un cratère unique au monde, situé en territoire afar, dans le désert du Danakil (l'un des déserts les plus inhospitaliers de la planète), au nord-est de l'Éthiopie, à une quinzaine de kilomètres de la frontière de l'Érythrée.
