Inside Story - A Greek tragedy and a European crisis?

As Greece entered a second week without a government central bankers joined politicians and economists in openly warning about the possible breakup of the eurozone. And so the Greek political tragedy plays on with potentially harsh consequences for Europe's economies. In Brussels, there are already talks about Greece leaving the eurozone. Is it now a question of when, or if?

Greece crisis talks deadlocked

Negotiations on forming a new Greek government is set to resume on Tuesday after three previous failed attempts. The radical left block (Syriza) has refused to join any coalition which supports austerity in exchange for bailout packages. The mainstream socialists have attacked the Left for their intransigence. If the parties can't agree on a coalition there will have to be another election next month. But if Greeks elect a parliament that is opposed to austerity policies it may lead to Greece's exit from the eurozone. Al Jazeera's Tim Friend reports from Athens.

One of the greatest achievements of the European Union was that it was to stop the spread of extremism ? Walked through a street here in Greece came across two Pieces of paper in the gutter what caught my eye was the Golden Dawn title, I bent down and picked up one of the pieces of paper, it was smaller than an A4 print with the message on both sides of the paper, no colour a very poor photograph a really cheap Election flyer, i walked a little down the street and there was another Election glossy professional looking 3 page Pasok brochure on the street, with bright colours, professional photos, catchy message etc. Golden Dawn did no election broadcasts as far as i know, the other parties filled the airways? The point Golden Dawn has now 21 MPs without Air time, Radio time, Flashy Brochures. What happens next? Desperate governments with the salvation of the nation as the logic will take absolute power in order to save the banking system from collapse. The chances of agreement on a new coalition government for Greece look slim, one week after inconclusive elections. The President is meeting with some of the smaller parties, after talks with the major party leaders failed to achieve a breakthrough. The main sticking point is the radical left's determination to tear up Greece's bailout agreement with the EU. Al Jazeera's Tim Friend reports from Athens.

Nick Skrekas-Greek Crisis, Austerity, Suicides, Oil, Defense & Immigration, Solutions 5 Mar 12

Dr. Nick Skrekas -- analyst & lawyer -- explains the somber mood in Greece after the 77 year old suicide of a pensioner in front of parliament. That imposing more austerity is like putting a seriously sick anorexic on a strict diet. The Papademos caretaker governments had a limited mandate and will organize elections. The correct policy solutions include taxing the wealthy that have squirreled away massive amounts of monies. That more sensible structural reforms, privatizations and less bureaucracy and corruption are needed. And the instead of the EU taking a foreign policy stances that cost Greece, like no more oil from Iran, they should assist Greece in its defense needs and to pitch in to assist with the massive influx of illegal immigrants. Live interview for the RT global audience, conducted by anchor lady Anissa Naouai on Thursday, 5 March 2012, at 3.10 pm Athens time with the Parthenon as a backdrop.

If English law is applied to the new bonds issued under the complex PSI, the Greek side would have to face the following consequences: Property confiscation: According to international law as well as many national legal systems, when a property is located within the jurisdiction of the legislating state, the latter has the power (de facto or by law) to nationalise or transfer property without compensation. The Wall Street Journal reported on January 5 that "Greece has agreed to consider that the new bonds be governed by English law, which means creditors would be allowed to seize Greek assets if the country fails on its payments".

Irony Of Greek Crisis Exposes Left Right Paradigm

The only resistance and I do me only resistance to the Greek government bailout is coming from the left to far left-wing parties in Greek politics. The False Left-Right Paradigm Concept is a political theory that alleges that members of opposing major political parties such as the Republican and Democratic parties in the United States share common interests and goals, as well as a covertly unified ruling authority over the political issues of the masses. The two major political entities act in concert to create divisiveness among the population while keeping control of the political spectrum. The Greek left-wing parties are exposing the obvious and they are 100% correct in their assessment. youtu.be The Greek communist party the KKE and Syriza are pointing out the truth of the Greek government bailout and the fundamental truth is that it is socializing the losses of bankers and investors. They are saying that the Greek government bailout is leading the Greek economy into the abyss and the Greek people into slavery. How can the left wing parties be the only ones voicing these opinions? Surely it is the supposed right-wing parties that should be exposing the complete destruction of the last remaining fragments of capitalism in the Greek economy. The irony of the left's position is that even though they identify the reality of the Greek situation perfectly, their proposed solution to the Greek crisis are exactly what led Greece into the position it is in today. Dr. Leontitsis is talking about the Greek crisis on the "Frost Over the World" show

The Greek financial tragedy continued this week as a war of words broke out between Germany's finance minister and the Greek president. Meanwhile, a decision by Eurozone ministers on the next Greek bailout has been delayed until Monday and there are increasing voices in Athens suggesting default is not only more likely but more desirable than the austerity demanded by the eurozone. So what next? Joining the show to discuss the mood in Greece is Vasilis Leontitsis, a research fellow at the Hellenic Observatory of the London School of Economics, who says the strains of the economy are beginning to show in the lives of the Greek people. "They [the Greek people] don't necessarily talk about the crisis as something alien. It is something that is happening to them."

The Greek Crisis and the Future of Europe

Greece is again descending into chaos; having a weak tottering government, the street of Athens erupting into violence with protestors revolting over the austerity measures and the banking system on the verge of collapse. Other European banks have a large exposure to Greek debt and there is again a dangerous risk of contagion. If Greece defaults on it loans, the effects could cause catastrophe for other weak Eurozone economies. These events would spread ripples throughout the financial system worldwide. The Greeks are angry because of austerity - cutbacks, unemployment, corrupt leaders who they say got them into debt and so forth. The Germans are angry because they have to pay for the Greeks unresponsible fiscal policies. It seems there is plenty of anger to go around and the crisis hasn't even hit yet. This is a small picture what it will be like when the European project, known prophetically in the Bible as "Babylon the Great", completely collapses when the Lord Jesus Christ returns to the earth and judges them. Today, however, from the Bible, we expect Europe to be unifying rather than disintegrating. In Revelation the beast is a symbol used to track the Roman Empire through it's various phases; from Pagan Rome, to the Holy Roman Empire and so on. The meaning of this symbol is found by examining other scriptures and allowing the Bible to interpret itself. The prophecy of Daniel's four beasts, portraying the kingdom of men, allows us to see that the beast in Revelation ...

When Carlo Ponzi, a dishwasher from Parma, Italy, immigrated to the United States in 1903, he had $2.50 in his pocket and a million-dollar dream in his head. He was able to fulfill that dream, at least temporarily.Ponzi promised people that he would multiply their money in a miraculous way: by 50 percent in six weeks. With his carefully parted hair and charming accent, Ponzi beguiled investors and fueled their avarice. The first investors raked in fantastic returns. What they didn't know was that Ponzi was simply using the next investors' money to pay them their profits. The scheme continued. Ten investors turned into 100, and 100 investors turned into 1000, until the scam was discovered. Ponzi spent many years in prison, and he died a pauper in 1949. But his name remains important to every criminologist today -- and every economist.Economists use the term "Ponzi scheme" to describe a disastrous mechanism in which someone pays off old debt by constantly taking on new debt. The repayment of the debt -- the most recent loans, plus interest -- is deferred into the distant future, fueling an eternal process of debt refinancing. It's the classic pyramid, or snowball scheme, practiced by thousands of con artists after Ponzi.
