This is my personal review of the HK USP 9mm and 45ACP semi autos. These are both full size polymer frame service pistols that have a well proven service history and excellent performance. Made to work in some of the most difficult and dangerous situations with absolute dependability and is a direct descendant of the original polymer frame gun, the HK VP70.
Heckler and Koch developed the USP to serve as a full sized handgun for duty use. Chambered for the 9mm Luger cartridge and featuring a 15 round magazine capacity, the USP is a logical choice for personal defense. I make no apologies for my opinions and preferences based on my own shooting and tactical experience... but I always want to be fair. Here I pit the USP Compact .40 against a primary competitor the compact Glock 23. Both guns are chambered for .40 S&W caliber and are considered compact versions of their larger siblings. Here I address each of my standard gun review categories: weight, firepower, durability, reliability, accuracy, ergonomics, simplicity, accessories, price, and track record. Advantage Glock: weight, firepower, ergonomics (mag release considered), accessories, price, and reliability (H&K mag floorplates have issues). Advantage H&K: better grip (however easily fixed on the Glock), second strike capability, and possibly better grip angle. Tie: durability, accuracy, and track record... both excellent. When the tally is over, the Glock 23 does indeed. Does this mean the USP is a loser pistol. Definitely not. It's still a very accurate, tough, reliable pistol. But objectively speaking, it does lose out to the Glock 23 when the order of the day is to go "compact." Also add: the Glock 23 is actually much more compact than the USP Compact, both in heigth, length, and width (slightly, considering slide and slide release lever). Another advantage to Glock.

USP .40 had 0 jams, USPc .45 had numerous failure to feeds. I wore the hard-hat just to have the face shield to keep sand out of my face, I wore Kevlar reinforced gloves and a Kevlar vest in case the gun exploded. It was over 100 degrees that summer day, so I wore flip-flops. I wasn't trying to be tacticool, or else I would have worn some pants or boots.

RATE & COMMENT please! How a silencer works: A silencer is just an can with several baffles(although the B+T Impulse IIA has a built-in recoil enhancer to ensure reliable functioning for browning action pistols). The baffles are there to progressively slow down and deflect the expanding gases. So that when it reaches the end of the silencer its no longer a single shock wave, but a low-pressure flow. The gun is a HK USP 9SD date code AI. It has match trigger with trigger job.

I have lots of experience behind the triggers of H&K pistols and they do have a lot to offer. They're tough, accurate, reliable, rust resistant, and well-made. But even after thousands of rounds through the H&K USPs like this one, I'm still not a fan of the gun. The competition is just better in several areas. I find the trigger guard protrusion (inside the guard), the flexing trigger, the weirdly placed magazine release, and proprietary light rail all very annoying. Even H&K pistols like the P2000 or Compact Tactical inherit these flaws. These points detract from an otherwise fine design for me. And even though it's a compact handgun it still weighs over five ounces more than a full size Glock! Add to that a more expensive purchase price and that sinks it for me. For my money I would go with either Sig or Glock over the H&K USP series. Correction: I meant to say DA to SA trigger module (being the standard)

Another firearm review. This one is a H&K usp 40S&W Tactical with some competition parts. I purchased the firearm this way, but I don't think HK has ever had this particular configuration in their catalog. Tactical - Of course it's the H&K usp tactical! High capacity, good sights, suppressor option, and H&K USP reliability. Gadget - There is some "fun factor" here regardless of the fact that it's a serious firearm. Could be used successfully in competitions. Getaway - The ability to store high capacity is nice, but due to it's large size I'm not sure it would be the first thing I would grab in a getaway situation.

Tested Unsuppressed vs suppressed, Supersonic, vs Subsonic, 9mm vs .40 and let every one get a chance to shoot it. You hear more noise from the impact of the round in the berm than anything else.

It is currently in use by various police forces around the world and is the standard-issued sidearm of the German Military, as well as being the weapon of choice for Jack Bauer (for all those 24 fans, including myself). The redesigned KSC USP Compact is, like most other KSC guns, superb. With it's metal slide and polymer frame, the gun is a great replica of the real steel. The polymer frame, unfortunetley, creates some wobble with the slide, which can be a turn off to any Gas Blow Back enthusiast. When jamming the magazine in, the slide might move forward on its own, denying one of a]the satisfying feel of using the slide release lever, and sometimes it does this without chambering a round.
