On the first day of Ramadan, August 1st, Syrian troops stormed the city Hama, in one of the bloodiest days of a five-month-old uprising. Around 80 civilians were killed on the tank-backed assault on Hama where Assad's father crushed an Islamists uprising 29 years ago. The next day shows a continuous gunfire on a northeastern district of Hama, killing at least four civilians. Video's and Images were uploaded on social media which shows black smoke rising from the street and people hiding at the corner of buildings to escape gunfire in Gharb Al-Mashtal. Another video from Al Sabahi roundabout in Hama shows a tank in position and soldiers. A further video filmed in the city of Deir al-Zour shows deserted streets with several military vehicles. Syrian Security forces, dominated by Alawite sect, had besieged the Sunni Muslim city of 700000 for nearly a month before the August 1 crackdown on the eve of Ramadan. Syrian tanks occupied the main Orontes Square in central Hama, residents said on Wednesday. The square has been the venue of some of the largest demonstrations against Assad's rule during the uprising. Newly released video on a social media website shows tens of thousands of protestors across Syria on August 5th, the first Friday of Ramadan, in defiance of President Bashar Al-Assad's bloody crackdown on protests in Hama and another close by city for six consecutive days. Syrian forces killed more than eight civilians in attacks on pro-democracy demonstrations in a Damascus suburb Erbin and in the central town of Homs. Videos show deserted streets in the Syrian city of Hama, smoke rising above buildings, along with the sounds of harsh shelling and gunfire. Syrian forces have also targeted Al-Hader district and neighborhood around Aleppo road. Another Video shows a tank on Aleppo road, while repeated rounds of gunfire and blasts from shelling are heard. Syria has prohibited foreign media from entering the country, making it difficult to verify statements from activists and authorities. Activists say Syrian forces have killed sixty-two people in raids across the country, mostly in Hama. It comes after government tanks stormed the volatile city, reportedly leaving dozens dead. At least 97 people were killed when Syrian forces stormed the central city of Hama at dawn, shelling different neighborhoods. Omar Idlibi, a Syrian activist based in Lebanon, told the German Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA) news agency that electricity and water supplies to the main areas were cut before the attack began. "The harsh crackdown is a means of telling protesters even if Ramadan starts we will keep killing you if you go out to the streets," Idlibi told DPA. "But we tell them we will continue and won't stop no matter what means you use on us."
