A short clip of the fledgling Lawrence Welk orchestra featuring girl singer Lois Best. Welk opens up with his theme "Bubbles In The Wine," followed by Lois Best singing the Malneck/Loesser song "I Go For That." The band finishes the clip with the old standard "Ain't She Sweet." Welk's band is pure Mickey Mouse sweetness, with three trumpets, one trombone, three reeds who double on saxophone and clarinet, and a rhythm section consisting of a keyboardist who plays piano and Hammond organ, bass, drums, and guitar. Welk himself hauls around his trademark accordion. The reed section playing ensemble passages on clarinet is nice, an effect lost in most swing bands. And check out that vintage Hammond, which looks like a very early B-3. You'll also notice that the drummer plays a drum kit about 10 years behind the times - he has no hi-hat, only bass drum, snare drum, one tom, temple blocks, and two small splash cymbals.
