The Nelsons gather after dinner and begin to discuss a newspaper article about a young boy who was lost until located by Sgt. Dolan of the local police department. Sgt. Unfortunately, we'll probably never see a true comprehensive release of the series for the usual mucked up reasons - original prints lost, most prints were edited a great deal for syndication and what was cut out is lost forever, and many of the episodes our now in public domain. It's kind of tragic that such a large slice of American Television has been treated so tragically. This particular episode comes from an episode which is part of a 100 episode set released by Mill Creek which costs less than 20 bucks. That alone should tell you something. But you get what you pay for. Many of the episodes on this set are in awful condition, but I recommend it anyway because even at that its better than many of the other sets out there. Even the officially sanctioned set by the Nelson estate was filled with the edited versions of episodes whereas this set has more of the complete episodes than any of the others. Anyway, this is one of the Christmas episodes entitled The Christmas Tree lot whereas Rick and Dave encounter problems when they decide to sell Christmas trees in order to buy a gift for Ozzie. And when you figure the running time, I do believe this episode is complete and is in a lot better shape than many of the others. This episode is listed on the IMDB as having originally aired on December 18, 1957.

After a long run on radio, the show was brought to television where it continued its success, running on both radio and TV for a couple of years. The series starred Ozzie Nelson and his wife, singer Harriet Nelson (née Hilliard), and their young sons, David Nelson and Eric Nelson, better known as Ricky. Don DeFore had a recurring role as the Nelsons' friendly neighbor "Thorny". The series attracted large audiences, and although it was never a top-ten hit, it became synonymous with the 1950s ideal American family life. It is the longest-running "live-action"/non-animated sitcom in US TV history. Before the show aired, Ozzie Nelson persuaded ABC to agree to a 10-year contract that paid the Nelsons whether the series was canceled or not. The unprecedented contract and Ozzie's insistence for perfection in the show's production paid off in the show's remarkable popularity. The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet premiered on ABC on October 10, 1952, staying until September 3, 1966. The show strove for realism and featured exterior shots of the Nelsons' actual southern California home at 1822 Camino Palmero Street in Los Angeles as the fictional Nelsons' home. First, let me start off by saying that this isn't the sort of video I normally put up online. When I'm working on a project (such as short films, concert videos, etc) I always have a project on the side that I do as a distraction. Alot of the times the things I'm working on get frustrating and tedious and I need something else to get my mind off the current project. At the same time, because it's still editing, it keeps me in the mood and usually leads me to revelations about whatever I was originally working on. This side project turned into something more, and I'm sharing it because Studio 60 was a tremendous show. A show that shouldn't have left as early as it did. That said, realize that this was just for fun. Treat it as such. A quick search on this site shows tons of Matt & Harriet videos, but they all seem extremely emotional and reflective to me. For such an upbeat and witty show I was surprised to see this. They're not bad videos by any means, just not the things I remember looking back.
