Joey Tempest and Ian Haugland on the MTV Guest VJ Hour, from 1987. I have never been able to find a better quality version of this. I remember watching it but I did not have a VCR back then. It took me years to even find this clip! The whole thing was really cheesy and even back then I was cringing and really felt bad for them because you can tell in spots how awkward the whole thing was. But they were cute and did the best the could with it. I'm happy to share this as it's a fun memory for me. :) Oh and courtesy of SteinVidar, here is a translation of what they *really* say while speaking Swedish from 02:15 to 02:25: Ian: "Hey, what do you really think about this?" Well, today we went to a school, made a presentation, and also got some donated grain and hay for the horse Hampton. Word that Richard P. Haugland had a bunch of taken Akha girls at his compound in Thailand got out and hits on the website went way up. Seems people who know Rosaria in Eugene are finally finding out about this other weird side of the story, in Thailand.

We visit Invitrogen which is the company that was started as Molecular Probes by Richard P. Haugland and Rosaria Haugland. While Rosaria funds projects in Eugene, Richard goes to Thailand and takes away 5 and 6 year old Akha girls from their families to his "school" in Chiangmai. You can see more about this school on our website www.akha.org It is strange that people take Akha children in the first place but Haugland's focus on 5 to 6 year old girls only is even more odd, considering his background in genetics. He high grades the girls for who is the best looking and brightest, "rejects" are labeled as "dumb" and sent off further from home. People at Invitrogen were less than excited to see us, despite insisting there was no longer any connection to this freak Richard. People in Eugene don't know the two lives of the Haugland family as we found out when we talked to people.
