I was around CH 46 Sea Knight helicopters the entire 33 years I was in the Marine Corps I buy it. I have 3, all from XHeli. When I decided to fly the smallest today (Micro SYMA SO26G), I found the stock battery pretty tired. So, I opened it up and found that a 180 mAh, but a 250 or even a 500 mAh single cell will fit. I would say the 250 would be optimum, but I did not have one, so stuck in the E-Flite version. As you can see, it works very well. ADEYTO meets 75-year-old Gennai Yanagisawa, who runs an electronics equipment company in Matsumoto, central Japan, has created a 75kg (165-pound) one-man aircraft which sets the world record for the smallest helicopter. Gen Corporation, the company employee Yasutoshi Yokoyama flies in the air by GEN H-4, a compact single-seater helicopter developed by Gen Corporation, during its test flight in Matsumoto in central Japan's Nagano Prefecture. Yanagisawa developed the GEN H-4 helicopter — with rotors, a chair, footrest and handle bar — in the late 1990s. Yanagisawa's helicopter is the smallest model in the world in terms of weight and its rotor length of 3.9 metres. The GEN H-4 has two rotors turning in opposite directions to maintain stability, and four engines that enables a 30-minute flight with a top speed of about 56 miles per hour. The helicopter has two identical rotors that turn in opposite directions making the need for a tail rotor obsolete. Each rotor counteracts the others torque keeping the helicopter free of any unwanted spin. Controlling the GEN H-4 is very easy.If you wanted to go forward, you would pull the control bar toward you. A helicopter pilot involved in a dramatic crash on Auckland's Viaduct Harbour this morning has told ONE News he "is doing fine". Greg Gribble was using the helicopter to set up the Telecom Christmas Tree. The chopper had lifted a pylon into the air and was slowly descending when the crash happened. Gribble could be seen looking around the helicopter as he descended in closely-confined conditions. The main rotor then struck a cable causing a loud bang as the chopper flipped and slammed into the ground. The company assists in firefighting and spraying chemicals. Jazz said lifting the xmas tree was not particulary unusual. He said the company has good safety record but he does have concerns about the future of the company. Eyewitnesses described hearing a "massive whack" or an "enormous pop" as the rotor got tangled in the cable. The B2 Squirrel helicopter was heavily damaged with its tail snapped in half. Gribble was thrown around the helicopter as it hit the ground, but was quickly helped from the wreckage by other workers. He is being assessed in the emergency department at Auckland Hospital and staff say he could be released this afternoon. Gribble's son Jazz, also a pilot, told ONE News he spoke to his father as soon as he was picked up by the ambulance. He said his father was shaken but he is doing reasonably well. Somewhere along everyone's aviation lifetime we have seen a small helicopter fly overhead. Some may have wondered what it would be like to fly one of these contraptions. A very few will actually go the next step and pursue that elusive dream. Hopefully, this article will enlighten you on some of the mechanics of the helicopter flight. Okay, before our first flight, let's take a seat in our helo and review how the controls work. Pedals These look and feel just like ones in an airplane, except there is no toe-pushing to stop the aircraft on the ground. All the pedals do is change the pitch in the tail rotor. You push right pedal in a hover and the helo yaws to the right...push left pedal in and the helo yaws left. Just remember, some helicopters' main rotors turn clockwise (like the RotorWay) and some turn counter-clockwise (like the Robinson). Basically, the tail rotor counteracts the torque imposed on the airframe by the main rotor blades being rotated by the power of the engine. One small difference in forward flight is that we don't use the pedals to coordinate a turn. All we use is the cyclic control. The pedals are used to keep the aircraft in trim during cruise flight. Collective & Throttle This control is a lever with a throttle grip on the end, and is located on the left side of the pilot. As you raise this lever from the full down position it "collectively" increases the pitch in the main rotor blades. Raise the collective lever in a hover and the helicopter goes <b>...</b>

I love the old Gas helicopters. The Hirobo Shuttle was first introduced in August, 1985. Since then Hirobo has released other types namely Shuttle X, XX, Z, ZX, Z Ts, ZXX, RG. Now Hirobo still produces the Shuttle series names Shuttle plus and Shuttle Sceadu. The Shuttle became known as one of the first ARF Helicopters. (Almost ready to Fly) The Head was typical for heli's at the time with individual 'flapping' blades and a tail rotor driven by a belt. Unusual though, was that it came with an auto rotation clutch as standard equipment thus giving the Shuttle aerobatic properties in the right hands. Mike Mas was famous for flying this helicopter inverted. Because of these extras though, it was expensive when compared to other manufacturers. Shuttle Z's without any accessories were 250, radio was 600, engine was 100, and a Motorized gyro was 175-250. Now over 25 years later the 'Shuttle is still one of the best entry level nitro helicopters on the market. By today's standards, this old Shuttle was not much of a 3D helicopter, but with some mods, loops, rolls, and inverted flight could be accomplished. It's heavy so it becomes much smoother than any of my 1 lb electrics. My shuttle weighs 6.9 lbs for comparison. Being that I'm getting older, I just love to watch my helicopter fly nice and smooth around the sky. Sikorsky video of the Sep. 15, 2010 test flight during which its X2 Technology coaxial-rotor helicopter demonstrator achieved its 250kt speed goal. Conventional helicopters cruise at around 150kt. The X2 reached 260kt in a shallow dive as is expected to exceed 250kt in level flight once a sail fairing is fitted between the upper and lower rotors to reduce drag further. X2 uses a single T800 engine to power both the rotors and the tail-mounted variable-pitch propeller, which provides forward thrust to enable the high speed. Other technologies include fly-by-wire flight controls and active vibration control. As the video opens you see a full-scale mockup of Sikorsky's proposed X2 Light Tactical Helicopter in the hangar.

I have this one about three years, but I have been flying Enstroms for 10 years. Super fast story, when I started flying Enstroms and training in Cleveland, it was a 95 model and there was only two of them made in 95. The one that I flew didn't necessarily get all of the proper maintenance that it should have. We called it the Piece of Sh*t Enstrom all the time. When I came back home, the local place that I went to work for had the other Enstrom that was made in the same year. This one had low hours on it, got all the maintenance it needed (it was at an Enstrom service center so it had great mechanics working on it) and so when I started to fly that one, I soon realized that the Enstrom is a great helicopter if it is getting the proper maintenance. The problem is, like ANY aircraft, if you maintain it properly you are going to have troubles. So since that time, it changed my total view on the Enstrom. Had this one for three years, like I said, and the Enstrom is a great helicopter. I have been lucky enough to train in all them, the Switzer, the Robinson... a littler bit of everything. And they are all great aircraft; I say this over and over again <b>...</b>
