Werner Herzog says "Movies don't change the world"

www.cbc.ca Werner Herzog's eccentric nature is rivaled only by his prolific and passionate commitment to filmmaking, which is why it was so striking to hear that he doesn't believe that films change the world. But someone with a body of work as populated and distinguished as Herzog's would know what he's talking about.

Klaus Kinski Tribute from Herzog's "My Best Fiend" (1999)

"In the 1950s, when Werner Herzog was 13, he was sharing an apartment with Klaus Kinski, an ego-maniacal live-wire. In an unabated, 48 hour fit of rage, Kinski destroyed every piece of furniture in sight. From this chaos, a beautiful albeit volatile partnership was born. In 1972, Herzog cast Kinski in Aguirre, The Wrath of God. Four more films would follow. In this personal documentary, Herzog traces the often violent up and downs of their relationship, revisiting Munich apartment where they first met - and thrashed, and the various locations of their films" - imdb.com

HERZOG ARRESTED! April 27, 2012 - The White Hats Report #40

=WHOA.. MORE BELOW PEEPS= Records of Mitt Romney's exist showing in excess of 900 million dollars taken offshore. This raises questions as to the validity and truthfulness of his IRS declarations, or perhaps in Mitt Romney's mind, tax is only for the "little people." Does he merit the highest office in the land? A vast amount of detailed and highly incriminating evidence is in our hands and has been lodged with appropriate global authorities. In such, we have to ensure we do not compromise criminal investigations now proceeding. The case we raise releases facts never before published, facts you deserve to know and question. We expose three key names of consequence today. Mitt Romney, Dr. Michael Herzog and Paul Guenette are now challenged to publicly explain why they ruthlessly cheated an American national causing loss of important projects, tax revenue and the denial of hope and dignity to many Katrina victims. These far flung results would have resulted from pre-approved projects which were to have been done if not for the deceit of the above mentioned three. The Falcone Group was planning high value work, which was needlessly delayed with pain and suffering for many; real consequences occasioned for real people, so many innocent citizens affected by the ruthless conspiring greed of others. Werner Herzog on images, TV, and shoes

Clips from Les Blank's classic 1980 short, "Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe." (visit lesblank.com to obtain the whole film). The film documents Herzog fulfilling a bet he made with Errol Morris: if Morris would finish his brilliant first feature "Gates of Heaven," Herzog said he would eat his shoe. He uses this public stunt to say some very serious things about American pop culture, filmmakers becoming "clowns" to promote their work, and the culture of images (or lack thereof). Clips like these can be found at the new Media Funhouse blog, which offers clips, reviews, a guide to YouTube and other sites, as well as everything in pop culture "from high art to low trash, and back again..." www.mediafunhouse.blogspot.com

Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe (1980)

In 1979, Les Blank took a detour to film German filmmaker Werner Herzog honoring a vow he made to Errol Morris that he (Herzog) would eat his shoe if Morris ever actually made one of his films he was forever talking about. Stung to action, Morris directed Gates of Heaven and Herzog, true to his word, returned to Berkeley to consume one of his desert boots at the UC Theater. Blank's film documents Herzog's strongly expressed belief that people must have the gutts to attempt what they dream of.

How much Wood Would a Woodchuck Chuck (Herzog, 1976)

One for all you rappers-in-training out there. Once, when I had a bit too much time on my hands, I tried slowing down some of these auctioneers hyper-speak. All those televangelists and politicians got it wrong. It's the auctioneers who are inundating the world with coded devil-worshipping messages, not Heavy Metal bands. Ahem... Not my very favourite Herzog work, but like pretty much anything he's ever done it does have its mesmerizing moments. The fact that these fringe obsessives slave over perfecting a craft that's almost completely impenetrable to the average layman makes it great fare for the modern-day day Don Quixote, Werner Herzog. (I just know he'd HATE being compared to Don Quixote). Please never die! Sorry for the lack of subtitles on the very occasional German bits. It was originally made for German TV.
