REAAD?! first off i know at the begining of the video it says 12 year old dutch warmblood stallion, this video was filmed in 2008, which was 3 years ago, i know he was 15. This absolutley amazing horse was an inspiration to many show jumpers and his death was tragic, and he shouldn't have ended like that, but he died doing something he loved, which is a positive i suppose, there is a video on youtube, showing what happend, he finished his course, and just collapsed, and he looked like he was fitting in the video, he couldn't stand back up, and sadly died in the ring. November 6th 2011, I got the news that Hickstead had collapsed and died. Eric Lamaze & Hickstead were the absolute best team out there. That horse did everything foor Eric. I bet he'd jump the moon if he could. Eric, Hicksteads owners, The Canadian Equestrian team, and the Canadian Equestrian community, suffered a major loss. We lost a part of what made show jumping amazing. I loved turning on the TV to see Eric & Hickstead jumping at Spruce Meadows.. but I never will again. Seeing that horse, the fear in his eyes and his desperate attempt to get back up but then to slowly just lay back down and seize all movement. Watching all those people work frantically to try to save him. Then seeing Eric start to break down as the god awful truth began to settle in. This truly is a great tragedy. Hickstead became so great that he will go down in history alongside Big Ben as one of the best equestrian horses in history. Hickstead and Lamaze conquered so much in a fairly short time. My thoughts and heart go out to Eric Lamaze as he mourns his partner and friend. May Hickstead rest in peace and know how much the world loves him. The show-jumping world was brighter with him in it. Yes, Hickstead was a fantastic horse but I admire Eric so much for his perseverance and courage. He is the one who found Hickstead, he didn't give up even if it was really hard and he made him a champion. These two had such a strong bond, you could see it that they trusted each other. They wanted to win and they worked hard to achieve what they strived for. Hickstead was more than a talented horse, he was exceptional. He was a champion and his heart was as big as the jump he flew over. We love you Eric and Hickstead ♥

Hello everyone :) Hope everyone's doing okay. So, as some of you knew, I had been working on a tribute to Hickstead that sadly passed away last November. I started this video I don't know how many times this past week but it just never felt right - because of the music, the clips that didn't match together as I wanted to honour Hickstead as he deserved. Then I realized I was just never capable of it - when I managed to finish it, I just had to accept that. This was a very difficult video for me to make, if not THE most difficult. I've never done a tribute in my video experience until now. I cried while I was making it. I could barely see what I was doing at some points, and I'm crying right now while I'm writing this because I feel like a failure, and I'm not ashamed to say it. Hickstead deserved so much more. It's harsh. But anyways. My heart also goes to Eric Lamaze and the people whose lives were touched by this horse. They lost a great friend and partner. Rest in peace, Hickstead. Our hearts are with you. Hickstead probably died from a rupture of a blood vaissel who caused an hemorraghie and caused the heart attack : "serait mort d'une crise cardiaque ou à la suite de la rupture d'un vaisseau sanguin, selon le Dr Yves Rossier, professeur à la Faculté de médecine vétérinaire de l'Université de Montréal." Eric Lamazes Horse died in Italie today : November 6th 2011, during the: nearly faultless 13-fence course at the Rolex FEI World Cup in Verona, Italy, when the 15-year-old horse abruptly collapsed and died. "We finished our round, I circled and was leaving the ring, and he collapsed and died of an apparent heart attack," Lamaze said in a news release. "It is the most tragic thing that has ever happened. We had him until he was 15, and we had a great time together. He was the best horse in the world. We are all devastated." But no further information on the exact cause of the death. The event was then cancelled, in homage of Hickstead and Eric Lamaze...
