IAFF Memorial 2008 pt1

On Saturday, September 20, 2008, fire fighters, family and friends from the United States and Canada made their 22nd annual pilgrimage to Colorado Springs, Colorado, for the IAFF Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial observance honoring 137 fallen fire fighters. As a special honor to the fallen, a procession of fire apparatus and motorcycles, known as the "Ride to Remember," journeyed to the memorial site in the shadow of Pikes Peak. On behalf of the 290000 members of the IAFF, General President Harold Schaitberger presided over the ceremony. More names were added this year than any other year since 2002 when 499 member names were etched into the memorial wall including those who died September 11, 2001. The mission of the IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial is to honor the sacrifice made by IAFF members who serve as professional fire fighters and emergency medical personnel who have given their lives in the line of duty. Since it was created in 1976, the names of the fallen IAFF members have been engraved into the wall of honor. The organization also provides assistance to surviving families and serves as a public reminder of the risks fire fighters take every day. The memorial is maintained by members of Colorado Springs Local 5. This is part 1, the Ride to Remember, the pipe and drums, and the Honor Guard. iaff.org

Giuliani Gets Exposed As Fraud by Firefighters

Giuliani Bungled Preparation in Years After 1993 Attack on Trade Center. Critical failures by former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani before, during and after the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, raise serious questions about his ability to be commander-in-chief. In this thirteen minute documentary, fire fighters, fire officers and family members give dramatic testimony about Giuliani's leadership failures. Their dramatic stories tell how Giuliani failed to provide the FDNY with radios that worked, which led to the deaths of 121 fire fighters inside the World Trade Center's North Tower because they were unable to hear orders to evacuate. Fire fighters also point to Giuliani's poor judgment in placing his emergency command center at 7 World Trade Center, a known terrorist target after the 1993 bombing. This video documents the mayor's lack of respect for the fallen when he called off the recovery effort at Ground Zero on Nov. 1, 2001, after $200 million in gold bullion was recovered. "We produced this documentary because we need to make sure our members know Giuliani's real record," said IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger. "The UFA participated in this video to correct the myth that Rudy Giuliani has perpetrated on the American public," said Steve Cassidy, president of the Uniformed Firefighters Association of Greater New York, IAFF Local 94. The Giuliani campaign defended the former mayor's record by issuing a release that lists items he purchased for FDNY ...

IAFF Prez Jeremy Kroto

Jeremy Kroto, President of IAFF local 5 speaks in support of worker's rights in Wisconsin and America. This rally of ~300 took place on the steps of city hall in Colorado Springs, February 22, 2001 along with hundreds around the nation. Wisconsin Republican Gov. Scott Walker has introduced legislation of remove all collective bargaining rights of the public worker's there. Walker's campaign got $43000 from the Koch brothers's PAC during the election. That was 2nd, behind the $43125 he got from the developers. Koch's PAC also pulled a corrupt maneuver to skirt campaign finance laws. They gave $1 million to the Republican Governors Association, who spent $65000 on independent expenditures to support Walker. The RGA also spent an amazing $3.4 million on TV ads and mailers attacking Walker's opponent, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett. The governorship was bought outright and everything Walker has done since is a quid pro quo repayment to the Koch Bothers who ALSO spent $6500 in support of 16 GOP state legislative candidates, who each won his or her election. FACT: State workers are paid 3.7% less than private employees according the Economic Policy Institute. This is true even though 54% of state and local public workers hold at least a four year degree compared to 35% of private-sector workers. Those with a college degree are paid 25% less than private workers. Health insurance accounts for 6.3% to 8.3% of private-benefits and 11.2% of public worker's benefits, which does NOT ...

A strong showing of workers, both from the public and private sector, attended the rally, including AFSCME Ohio Council 8, CWA, IAFF, IBEW, IUPAT, OEA, OFT, OAPSE/AFSCME, OCSEA/AFSCME Local 11, SEIU, the Teamsters, TWU, UFCW, USW, and Working America.
