Just in time for the launch of The Vampire Diaries third season, Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev are finally opening up just a little bit about why they love each other. Us Weekly chatted it up with the pair at the CW's fall premiere party, where Ian Somerhalder said that there are a million things he loves about Nina, but to get more specific, he said that Nina "truly enjoys life," and that "her desire to experience and appreciate everything around her, and chuckle and enjoy it, is great." The actor who plays Damon added that "when you're really close to someone, they can make fun of you a lot and get away with it." So what did the lovely Miss Nina Dobrev have to say about her reported boyfriend of more than a year? Well she told the magazine that "He always has a positive outlook and positive energy and he's always happy. He is a glass-half-full kind of guy, not half-empty." Sounds like this pair is on the right track, and all this love talk has us even more excited than ever about the return of TVD, this Thursday, September 15th on the CW. I'm Dana Ward and today we're filling you in on the practical joke that Ian Somerhalder played on co-star and girlfriend, Nina Dobrev. Apparently, it surrounds the season-3 opener which the vampire star said had him literally naked for almost 2 days of production. Ian told EW that as he was getting ready to shoot the first scene which starts with a reaction shot of Nina -- ya know, from Elena seeing a completely nude Damon -- the first assistant director suggested that he head on down to the prop department. The star of The Vampire Diaries went on to describe how the team used double-stick tape to attach newly-made elephant ears to his inner thighs to seemingly create an elephant with Ian's body. Use your imagination, people! Apparently, Nina's real-life reaction was a very natural "OMG" and Ian said that he hopes and prays that they use that initial expression in the episode final cut.
