Inside Mexico's Drug War Part One

Investigative journalist John Gibler takes us inside the drug war in Mexico, revealing the facts behind the popularized versions of the violence. In Part 1, Gibler, author of To Die in Mexico, analyzes the narcotics traffic as a $250 to 500 billion a year global business providing illegal drugs everywhere in the world. He debunks the myth that those who are killed -- as many as 50000 since Felipe Calderon took office in 2006 -- are all somehow involved in the drug trade. In the US, anti-drug policies have traditionally had racial implications, as detailed in Michelle Alexander's book, The New Jim Crow.

America's approach to tackling the flow of illegal drugs from Afghanistan is misguided. The CIA and the Drug Trade (Eyeopener Preview)

CONTINUE WATCHING: ur1.ca TRANSCRIPT AND SOURCES: www.corbettreport.com Just as the British Empire was in part financed by their control of the opium trade through the British East India Company, so too has the CIA been found time after time to be at the heart of the modern international drug trade. From its very inception, the CIA has been embroiled in the murky underworld of drug trafficking. There are billions of dollars per year to be made in keeping the drug trade going, and it has long been established that Wall Street and the major American banks rely on drug money as a ready source of liquid capital. With those kinds of funds at stake, it is unsurprising to see a media-government-banking nexus develop around the status quo of a never-ending war on drugs -- aided, abetted and facilitated by the modern-day British East India Company, the CIA. This is our EyeOpener Report by James Corbett presenting the history, documented facts, and cases on the CIA's involvement and operations in the underworld of drug trafficking, from the Corsican Mafia in the 1940s through the 1980s Contras to the recent Zambada Niebla Case today.

The CIA & the US GOVT's old secret business: DRUG SMUGGLiNG

Meet the biggest and most powerful drug running organization on the planet: the USA government. Yes, the Nortth American government with the CIA's logistic support. The "Mena Connection". Most major networks and news organizations have prepared thorough pieces on Mena (Arkansas), but none has ever aired. Why is that? This video will take you on a dark journey of corruption and drug smuggling which started back in the early 80's when Barry Seal (aircraft pilot) was bringing in drugs to the US on behalf of the Medellin Cartel. Seal had to move his base of operations from Louisiana and needed a safe doorway for cocaine into the United States. He had much help from the Arkansas governor back then Bill Clinton and also from George Bush. Ron Paul on CIA Drug Trafficking

Released on April 13, 1989, the Kerry Committee report concluded that members of the US State Department "who provided support for the Contras were involved in drug trafficking...and elements of the Contras themselves knowingly received financial and material assistance from drug traffickers." In 1996 Gary Webb wrote a series of articles published in the San Jose Mercury News, which investigated Nicaraguans linked to the CIA-backed Contras who had allegedly smuggled cocaine into the US which was then distributed as crack cocaine into Los Angeles and funneled profits to the Contras. According to Webb, the CIA was aware of the cocaine transactions and the large shipments of drugs into the US by the Contra personnel and directly aided drug dealers to raise money for the Contras. In 1996 CIA Director John M. Deutch went to Los Angeles to refute the allegations raised by the Gary Webb articles, and was famously confronted by former LAPD officer Michael Ruppert, who testified that he witnessed it occurring.

ATF Fast & Furious -- US Government Involvement in Gun & Drug Smuggling

WASHINGTON -- New documents obtained by CBS News show Attorney General Eric Holder was sent briefings on the controversial Fast and Furious operation as far back as July 2010. That directly contradicts his statement to Congress. On May 3, 2011, Holder told a Judiciary Committee hearing, "I'm not sure of the exact date, but I probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks." In the aftermath of the botched gun-tracking operation along the Southwest border, called Fast and Furious, which allowed weapons from the United States to pass into the hands of suspected gun smugglers and Mexican drug cartels, two top supervisors at federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), headquarters have been reassigned. William J. Hoover, the No. 2 man at ATF, will become special agent-in-charge of the agency's Washington field office, while Mark Chait, who ran all of the field investigations around the country, is being reassigned as head of the Baltimore field office, the Washington Post reported. Replacing Hoover as deputy director in Washington will be Thomas Brandon, who was sent to Phoenix to run the field office there. Hoover, who had broad supervision over Fast and Furious and was given routine operation updates, tried to shut it down six months after it started in the fall of 2009. Failing in his attempt, the operation continued until January of this year.

War on Drugs means big bucks for some

Depending on who you ask, the war on drugs is seen from anything as a failure to a profitable business. According to some South American companies, the US drug policy is responsible for cartel violence. Many are lobbying for the US to keep marijuana illegal because they feel that permitting the plant would not be good business. The private prison industry banks off illegal marijuana, however, and in 2010 nearly half of all drug arrests were weed-related. Mexico's Drug War

The Mexican Drug War is an ongoing armed conflict taking place among rival drug cartels fighting each other for regional control, and Mexican government forces seeking to combat drug trafficking. However, the government's principal goal has been to put down the drug-related violence that was raging between different rival drug cartels in Mexico before any military intervention was made.[27] In addition, the Mexican government has claimed that their primary focus is on dismantling the powerful drug cartels, rather than on drug trafficking prevention, which is left to US functionaries. Although Mexican drug cartels, or drug trafficking organizations, have existed for several decades, they have become more powerful since the demise of Colombia's Cali and Medellín cartels in the 1990s. Mexican drug cartels now dominate the wholesale illicit drug market in the United States.[31] Arrests of key cartel leaders, particularly in the Tijuana and Gulf cartels, have led to increasing drug violence as cartels fight for control of the trafficking routes into the United States. The US Department of Justice estimates that wholesale earnings from illicit drug sales range from $13.6 billion to $48.4 billion annually. Given its geographic location, Mexico has long been used as a staging and transshipment point for narcotics, illegal immigrants and contraband destined for US markets from Mexico, South America and elsewhere. BAN DRUGS AND RAVE PARTIES

Ban drugs and rave parties. In preparation for observance of the United Nations' declared International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, on 26 June 2012, Dr. Merchant once again issues a clarion call for a total ban on all illegal mind altering substances. Throughout a span of almost three decades, spearheading the crusade against Substance Abuse in India, Doc has been witness to several state instituted policies and measures to curb this evil. Amongst these, he feels the strategy of legalization of illegal drugs, to be one of the most horrible. In this video he sits outside a seven eleven shop, which sells cannabis legally, and condemns it unequivocally in his inimitable style. Expecting the 'Legalization of illegal mind altering drugs' to curb the menace of drug abuse, he says, is as preposterous as suggesting the 'Legalization of bottom-pinching of females' to reduce the incidence of rape. It is stupid and should be done away with immediately. All governments should unambiguously ban illegal drugs, and their sale with immediate effect. That is the only possible way to eliminate the insidious virus of Substance abuse from our society. Dr. Merchant invites you to support the crusade against illegal drugs, by sending any of the following messages to your friends by sms/email, or by sharing this video. 73 Year Old Grandma Responsible For 40 Percent Of Oklahoma's Marijuana Trafficking!

"A 73-year-old Craig County woman was arrested Monday after sheriff's deputies searched her home and found marijuana and $278000 in cash. A four-month investigation led investigators to what they say is the biggest player in the Grand Lake area drug trade. "We feel like this is a really big operation," said Sheriff Jimmie Sooter. The money was seized along with four pounds of marijuana from a house and vehicle four miles east of Vinita off Highway 60. The amount of confiscated cash is staggering. The suspect is surprising: Darlene Mayes, a 73-year- old grandmother. "It was just like shock. I can't believe this. This is a lady my grandmother's age, and I could never in a million years picture my own grandmother doing this," said Bobby Floyd, Vinita Police Chief. Investigators say older folks are becoming more active in drug trafficking. They don't raise as much suspicion and more are turning to drugs as a way to make extra money in their golden years. "Don't put an age limit on the investigation, because anything can happen," Floyd said." - 6 News
