TMZ reports that the lawsuit was filed on Wednesday July 20 in LA County Superior Court. The players and their wives claim, "The NFL knew as early as the 1920's of the harmful effects on a player's brain of concussions; however, until June of 2010 they concealed these facts from coaches, trainers, players and the public." The suit alleges that the NFL commissioned a study in 1994 called "NFL Committee on Mild Traumatic Brain Injury", followed by a report published in 2004. Both studies concluded there was "no evidence of worsening injury or chronic cumulative effects" from multiple concussions. In June of 2010, the NFL finally admitted that concussions can lead to dementia, memory loss and other symptoms. The NFL — along with Riddell, the manufacturer of their helmets — are being charged with fraud, negligence and failure to warn.
