'NATO war machine responsible for global violence'

Day one of the NATO summit in Chicago has been marked by mass demonstrations that resulted in fierce clashes with police. A dozen people were reportedly injured and around 60 arrested after officers started using batons to disperse thousands-strong crowds. RT's Anastasia Churkina was in the middle of what became the biggest rally in a week of anti-war protests. And co-director of the anti-war International Action Center Sara Flounders is also in Chicago, and says the action taken against the demonstrators shows NATO feels threatened by their cause. 'OWS camps banned - where do we convene?'

The Mayor of Oakland has asked courts to throw any Occupy activist with a record of protest arrests out of the city. Her demand follows one of the most dramatic clampdowns on the movement in its history. More than 400 people were arrested when what began as a peaceful rally against inequality and police brutality turned rough. Riot clad cops jumped into action - firing volleys of tear gas and flash grenades at protesters hiding behind makeshift barriers bearing peace symbols. First-hand accounts say that police were carrying lists of demonstrators with them, which they used to arrest attendants. Sara Flounders, from the International Action Center, believes the Occupy movement is like an alarm clock for a dying American dream. RT on Facebook: www.facebook.com RT on Twitter: twitter.com

Thrill Bill: 'US wars deliver absolute terror'

The promise to scrap his predecessor's hardliner war-on-terror policies, which helped Barack Obama win presidential election, is apparently off the table. The political reality is that the current administration is doing quite the opposite thing. The Dzindzi Indian - H File Action! (Grandmaster Analysis)

♕ 90+ minutes of more FREE previews: bit.ly ♕ MORE INFO ►: www.onlinechesslessons.net ♕ facebook.com ♕ twitter.com In this video, I'll be covering an extremely aggressive line for white against the Dzindzi Indian, specifically involving rapid attempts by white to break open the center and take advantage of black's difficulty in immediately achieving fluid development. This video examines important concepts for Dzindzi Indian players of all levels, as it fully demonstrates the necessity for energetic play against white's weaknesses on the queenside to compensate for white's activity in the center. I also look at some very speculative play by black, trying to snatch white's e4 pawn early on however allowing some killer tactics by white. This video examines some very critical ideas in the Dzindzi Indian, illustrating some common pitfalls that black should avoid as well as frequent attacking patterns in the center and queenside that allow black to achieve more than sufficient counterplay against white's crippled pawn structure.

We Are Change Colorado 11th of the month AE911TRUTH action at DIA

Each month, We Are Change Colorado hosts an 11th of the month, 9/11 truth action, where we engage the public with free DVDs detailing the chilling evidence that controlled demolitions were used to bring down the three World Trade Center towers that collapsed, at near free-fall speed on September 11, 2001. This month, we decided to go back to the New World Airport, also known as Denver International Airport (DIA). Although there is plenty of talk whether or not Denver is the headquarters of the New World Order, with its many deep underground military bases scattered across the front-range and brand new federal courthouses/ jails undergoing construction in downtown, we stuck to just 9/11 for this action. It's just too easy; say it with me now everyone... nine-point-eight-meters-per-second-squared-physics-doesn't-lie. We asked three questions; were travelers willing to give up their most basic civil liberties for safety, had they ever been personally affected by terrorism, in their everyday lives and for our final question, we asked each person how many steel structure buildings collapsed, at near free-fall speed, in New York City, on September 11th. If they answered the question correctly, they would receive a hug and if they were wrong they would be given a free DVD by Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth. www.ae911truth.org We interviewed anyone who was brave enough to stand in front of the camera for 3 questions, so one camera battery charge and 4.5 hours later, we ...

Tallying the Death Toll of NATO's Vicious War on Libyan Civilians

NATO's latest 90-day military mandate in Libya is set to run out on Friday. But the campaign to protect Libyan civilians has done little of that in Sirte, where thousands of innocent people are suffering as NATO forces besiege Gaddafi's hometown. National Transitional Council (NTC) fighters took full control of the airport in Sirte, Muammar Gaddafi's birthplace, on Thursday. NTC's forces first captured the city two weeks ago, but then lost control. Pro-Gaddafi forces have used sniper, rocket and artillery fire to fight NTC forces. The interim government's troops have warned they will mount pressure to push regime loyalists back toward the sea. NATO has not stayed out of the action. The town of Sirte is also under the alliance's aerial attack, and according to anti-war activist Sara Flounders, they actually play a key role there. "This is a NATO war where the so-called rebels are an auxiliary force that has been incapable of even taking any ground on their own," Flounders, from the anti-war group International Action Center, told RT. "This is overwhelmingly a war on civilians." And while another destructive fight is unfolding, both sides are blaming each other for endangering civilians, who are fleeing the city in large numbers. "Sirte is now without water, without food, without medical supplies, without operating hospitals," Flounders said. Libyan authorities have asked the United Nations for fuel for ambulances to evacuate the wounded. There have been reports that ...

Calling My Children Home | The Dartmouth Aires sing for the Horn of Africa

New York—The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) today released a new video message aimed at highlighting a deadly ongoing famine in the Horn of Africa, with a song recorded by the renowned Dartmouth College a cappella group, the Aires, and dedicated to UNDP. "We at UNDP are deeply grateful to the Aires for using their musical gifts and their celebrity to help raise awareness of the plight of people in the Horn of Africa," said UNDP Administrator Helen Clark. "Drought is not avoidable, but famine is. It arises from conditions which the international community can help address. UNDP is working hard to build resilience, restore livelihoods, and support communities moving to a sustainable path. Public awareness of and support for this work is essential," Helen Clark said. The Dartmouth Aires began performing in 1946 but didn't achieve international celebrity until 2011, when they secured a spot as finalists in the NBC network television show "The Sing-Off." As one of five university groups and the only Ivy League musicians competing, they placed second and now have a global following. They performed at the White House in December 2011. On 7 January 2012, before a sold-out concert at Lincoln Center, the award-winning, all-male, undergraduate group visited UN Headquarters to record "Calling My Children Home," along with a public service message for UNDP. The song, which draws on traditional ballads, evokes a close-knit clan scattered to distant regions, much as the ...

Anti-Flag -- "This Is The New Sound"

Take action at Amnestyusa.org Anti-Flag "This Is The New Sound" from the album "The General Strike", out March 20th, 2012 on Sideonedummy Records. Store.sideonedummy.com "This Is The New Sound" video was shot at the historic Ohio State Reformatory, the same prison where Shawshank Redemption was filmed. Amnesty International is teaming with Pittsburgh-based rock band Anti-Flag to speak out against indefinite detention, premiering the group's new music video, "This is the New Sound." Amnesty International and Anti-Flag have worked together on a number of important human rights causes, taking campaigns on tour with the band in the United States and overseas. "The erosion of human rights should always be taken seriously," said Anti-Flag band members. "We wanted to find a creative and clever way to introduce these ideas into the discourse about our new record, 'The General Strike.' This video is a culmination of that idea. Sure, maybe we will talk about how funny it is to see puppets beating the hell out of us, but we'll also discuss the fact that people are being held in prisons, without fair trials, and President Obama's promise to shut down Guantánamo Bay remains unfulfilled." The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) makes it more likely that anyone -- including US citizens -- could be held indefinitely without charge or fair trial. 'Libya offensive - piracy on international level'

NATO is not interested in a ceasefire in Libya as it craves regime change in the country, believes International Action Center activist Sara Flounders. Russia's foreign minister has criticized the way the UN resolution on Libya is being implemented, in the wake of NATO's 90-day extension of its mission there. Sergey Lavrov says NATO's actions go beyond the scope of the resolution and undermine international law.

Russia warns attack on Iran World War III coming this summer (Feb 14, 2012)

MOSCOW prepares military response for Iranian attack — Russia has been preparing for the prospect of an Israeli or US air strike on Iran in 2012. Officials said the Kremlin has ordered the military to draft options for a Russian response to any foreign attack on Iran's nuclear facilities. They said the Defense Ministry has established a facility to monitor Teheran, an ally and trading partner of Moscow. Russian Chief of Staff Gen. Nikolai Makarov "Iran, of course, is a sore spot," Russian Chief of Staff Gen. Nikolai Makarov said. Makarov said Iran has become the leading focus of the Kremlin. He said the Defense Ministry has established a center to closely monitor Iran and the rest of the Middle East. Makarov said international pressure on Iran has been growing and could be followed by military action. He said the current sanctions on Teheran could lead to a confrontation in mid-2012 www.worldnewstribune.com

FSRN Violence in Bahrain Worsens With Activists Aressted in Hospitals

In contrast to diplomatic action on Syria, the United States and the international community have been far less vocal about the situation in Bahrain, where human rights groups say detentions, torture and political repression continue. An independent commission of inquiry into the government crackdown released findings in December that documented a pattern of abuses and noted a "culture of impunity." Activists within Bahrain point to key US military installations in the region and Bahrain's close relationship with Saudi Arabia, a US ally, as reasons for inaction. Fact Checking the Media

During an interview last month on CBS' Face the Nation, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta set the record straight on Iran: "Are they trying to develop a nuclear weapon? No." But if you read recent news reports lately, you'd think otherwise. The media coverage on Iran is mirroring the coverage in the lead-up to the Iraq war: grand claims about a smoking gun that doesn't exist. For example, The New York Times incorrectly reported last month that the latest International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report on Iran concluded that their nuclear program had a military objective. The paper's public editor, Arthur Brisbane, was forced to acknowledge their mistake and wrote: "Some readers, mindful of the faulty intelligence and reporting about Saddam Hussein's weapons program, are watching the Iran nuclear coverage very closely." Other media outlets such as National Public Radio, PBS and The Washington Post have been challenged on their coverage too. A recent publication from the Center for Strategic and International Studies titled "The IAEA's Iran Report and Misplaced Paranoia," noted that "With few exceptions, these revelations are not exactly new. More importantly, neither is the thrust of the report: that Iran is developing some capabilities that can only be understood as preliminaries to the development of nuclear weapons. Unfortunately, early coverage of the report's release gives the opposite impression." Many have recognized that the media failed to do its job in the lead ...

Beshear Administration to Announce Funding for UK to Demonstrate Carbon Capture Technology Using Algae. UK President Eli Capilouto, Center for Applied Energy Research (CAER) director Rodney Andrews, Kentucky Energy and Environment Secretary Len Peters, Kentucky House Majority Leader Rocky Adkins, East Kentucky Power Cooperative (EKPC) CEO Tony Campbell and others. To announce a partnership with UK and East Kentucky Power Cooperative's Dale power station in Winchester, Ky. to demonstrate CAER and the UK Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering's process of using algae to capture CO2 and convert it to biomass from coal-burning power plants. This breakthrough carbon-capture technology is being funded by $1.3 million from the Kentucky Energy and Environment cabinet, $543633 from UK and $75000 of in-kind costs from the EKPC to demonstrate the process at EKPC for the next two years. The smaller-scale project began in a commercial-scale greenhouse at CAER and has been refined for the last three years. Researchers are looking at the potential of using waste CO2 and heat from a coal-fired power plant to cultivate algae, which can then be processed into value-added products like biodiesel, animal feed, fertilizer, and chemicals.

Vikki Law: Resisting Gender Violence Without Cops or Prisons

Resisting Gender Violence Without Cops or Prisons --An interview with author Victoria Law By Angola 3 News Activist and journalist Victoria Law is the author of "Resistance Behind Bars: The Struggles of Incarcerated Women" (PM Press, 2009). Law has previously been interviewed by Angola 3 News on two separate occasions. Our first interview focused on the torture of women prisoners in the US. The second interview looked at how the women's liberation movements of the 1970s advocated for the decriminalization of women's self defense. Taking this critique of the US criminal "justice" system one step further, Law presented a prison abolitionist critique of the how the mainstream women's movement, then and now, has embraced the same "justice" system as a vehicle for combating violence against women. While citing the important work of INCITE: Women of Color Against Violence, Law argues that "today, abuse is treated as an individual pathology rather than a broader social issue rooted in centuries of patriarchy and misogyny. Viewing abuse as an individual problem has meant that the solution becomes intervening in and punishing individual abusers without looking at the overall conditions that allow abuse to go unchallenged and also allows the state to begin to co-opt concerns about gendered violence." Furthermore, "the threat of imprisonment does not deter abuse; it simply drives it further underground. Remember that there are many forms of abuse and violence, and not all are ...

In his view a foreign policy that doesn't have a pre-emptive character is doomed to disaster ** David Aaronovitch: A largely reactive foreign policy is certainly a recipe for disaster, and believes that the test of a pre-emptive foreign policy is the conflict in Afghanistan. Christopher Hitchens: Too little, too late

FULL DEBATE: www.youtube.com socraticmama.com [Inspiration & Support for Secular Families] 13th Sept, 2004 Motion: "A pre-emptive foreign policy is a recipe for disaster" Chair: Francine Stock. For: Senator Gary Hart & Sir Simon Jenkins Against: Christopher Hitchens & David Aaronovitch. ** Gary Hart: Despite the theoretical nature of the motion, the point at issue is America's invasion of Iraq. He says that with an immediate and unavoidable threat, a nation does not require international acceptance to defend itself, but in the case of Iraq that threat was not present. ** Simon Jenkins: Not against the concept of intervention or pre-emption, but has two basic concerns. Firstly, that we cannot have a state of affairs where any country can go to war; and secondly, that we should not extend this concept to groups that constitute a threat within other states. ** Christopher Hitchens: It is often assumed the concept of pre-emption runs counter to the nexus of international law. Bang the Drum for Darfur

The crisis in Darfur remains unresolved. Don Cheadle has traveled to the region multiple times and met with those affected. He talks with John Prendergast about how to bring peace to Darfur. Citizen action made a difference in helping to lay the groundwork for a peaceful referendum in Southern Sudan. It's Darfur's turn now. Much has been learned about why earlier international action in Darfur didn't work. We can apply those lessons and make a real difference. Go to www.enoughproject.org to find out how you can help. US Sends More Military Power to Asia-Pacific Region

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com The US recently announced that it will deploy more military power to the Asia-Pacific region, including an aircraft carrier. The US also stepped up military ties with the Asia-Pacific countries, including Australia, the Philippines, Singapore etc. March 8th, US Deputy Secretary of Defense Ashi Dayton Carter said that in the next few years, the proportion of the warships that the United States stations in the Pacific will increase from the current 52% to 60%. Aircraft carrier will also increase from 5 to 6. Navy and Marine Corps will also enhance deployment in the Asia-Pacific region. Reuters analyzed the purpose of the US action is to respond to China's growing military power as well as maintaining peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region. A report issued by "Jane's Defense advisory body" last month pointed out that China's defense spending will reach $ 238 billion in 2015, more than the sum of all countries in the Asia-Pacific region. This makes all the neighboring countries feel uneasy. Cheng Xiaonong, scholar in US, said: "Amongst all the Asia-Pacific regions, a consensus gradually formed that China is now becoming a threat which makes many Asia-Pacific countries worry. Many countries are now reconsidering their national defense and security. In fact, they regard China as a potential challenger. This is why these countries welcome the US military buildup in Asia to protect their safety. China ...
