Follow us @ twitter.com twitter.com Informants are running to US regulators to report allegations of accounting fraud and market manipulation, lured by the possibility of multi-million dollar payouts under a Dodd-Frank program. That's according to a Financial Times story. We'll have to wait and see where that goes, but we'll talk to someone whose been blowing the lid off of banking and hedge fund corruption for years. Teri Buhl brings us into that world firsthand and tells us about her latest story of sex and scandal in New Canaan, Connecticut, which she's already been sued over. We visit hedge fund land, for a story which is perhaps much more representative of the fraud and moral decay of its Wall Street inhabitants. It involves Mitchell Vazquez (or Mitch Vazquez for short), a trader whose been busted by regulators and banned from the business in the past by both the CFTC as well as the SEC, but that seemingly hasn't stopped his trading or troubles. He tried to bust his stripper assistant Helen Kapoutsos for stealing (she's been charged with embezzling) after she was allegedly paid to have threesomes with him and his fiancé Pamela Mercedes Chiesi, who also happens to be the sister of a convicted insider trader Danielle Chiesi. Quite the plot. We hear about it from Teri Buhl, investigative journalist, who tells us about the story and the bigger picture issues. For instance, when Vasquez settled with regulators multiple times, he never had to admit or deny guilt. It's a ...

Before joining CIR in January of 2008 Rosenthal had done pretty much everything that could be done done in a newspaper: copy-boy, reporter, foreign correspondent, investigative reporting and executive editor. He did not have a ring side seat to the collapse of the newspaper business model, he was in the ring, taking some serious shots. At CIR he is in the forefront of creating a new model for high quality, unique journalism, within the crucial niche of investigative reporting. He believes that the new newsroom must be innovative, risk taking, and nimble. The journalists, the story tellers — and story telling is central — must exist in a symbiosis with the technology wizards. Together they can find the answer to sustainability, audience growth and impact at a time when the credibility of news is under assault. The woolly mammoth in Siberia video has made its way around multiple media outlets and YouTube in just a few days. When I first saw this video I instantly could tell it was fake based on the fake camera motion alone. I also noticed other things and mentioned them here: thehoaxkiller.com Then later the member ModerateMartian found the original source video which confirmed my original observations here: thehoaxkiller.com ModerateMartian contacted the owner of the source video Lou Petho when he found his video, and this was Lou's reply: www.youtube.com Now the known internet hoaxer Michael Cohen may have stepped on the wrong toes because Lou Petho is seeking legal advice for Cohen's and Bancroft Media's outright copyright infringement. Good investigative journalism that exposes and brings change will always be prized by the public despite the predicted demise of newspapers and big media, according to a leading US investigative journalist who is visiting the Pacific and Australia. Speaking at the School of Journalism and Communication at The University of Queensland, former NBC TV investigative reporter Lea Thompson said she was confident and not pessimistic that the public wanted in depth journalism and journalists to be watchdogs for our society. I cannot imagine that citizens not demand we as journalists keep looking out for them. Our [USA] constitution and the First Amendment almost demands journalists go in search of documents available to us, Ms Thompson said. She said the public would soon be getting most of its news from the Web, which she claimed made it easier for digital-literate journalists to investigate issues and stories. All those things that took a hundred phone calls, we can do very quickly now, so hopefully we can take time to do the enterprise stuff and really talk to sources. She said that in the United States special foundations were being established to fund web-based investigative journalism including the contracting of high profile journalists to investigate specific stories. It is an exciting age for journalism students, according to Ms Thompson who admitted to having forced herself to learn more about digital and web-based technology and journalism practice. She said there ...
