Last night the price of gold closed below the new uptrend that was forming after golds parabolic move a couple of weeks back. In my previous video I said that if the uptrend failed and the two spikes above $1900 represented a double top then we were in for a period of consolidation between $1750 and $1850. Alternatively a more bearish scenario would see gold move back into its initial channel (around $1500 - $1700). This video discusses my thoughts in regard to this and provides a couple of charts. Silver appears to be at a bit of a cross road. Either it bounces off the lower trend line and continues on its upward journey or alternatively if it fails to hold the line consolidation comes into play. Gold remains above the long term uptrend even though the Green Prime Minister George Papandreous basically commits political suicide (and sends stock markets plunging) by announcing that he is going to send the European bailout package to the people by holding a referendum. Following on from my earlier video I now put forward a couple scenarios for the price of gold based on recent price action. Primarily I believe one of two scenarios will play out. 1. Either gold has made a double top and will re-trace and consolidate for a period of time. 2. Last nights drop was a short term move and it will respect the new uptrend and continue higher, albeit at a steeper angle than the last couple of years. In regard to Silver it has now re-established itself within its previous channel (after its parabolic move earlier in the year). In my opinion this bodes well for the price of silver as the uptrend remains in tack, which provides the best environment for sustainable gains. Silver was down another 13.86% last night, breaking through the previous low back in May. We now need to wait for silver to find some support/consolidate before we are able to get a read on where it may go next. It is also important to remember that the price can break to the downside, just like it broke to the upside. Whether it can establish a new uptrend in the next few months remains to be seen. Ok so the ascending wedge and move to the downside was a "false break" with the four down days being countered by four even stronger up days. Gold has now broken above the upper band of the long running up trend. This may suggest that gold is about to rally hard and if it does I would be looking to a new high and perhaps even $2000 USD per ounce. Last nights action was certainly exciting with Gold hitting an intraday low of 1532 before reversing sharply. In my opinion this is a short term positive for gold and shows that buyers were willing to step up to the plate at any price under $1600 ish. Silver was sold off heavily in last nights section, almost touching $26 per ounce, before rebounding sharply towards the close. This could be a short term bottom as everyone who had to sell, has now sold. This does however need to be confirmed by a couple of less volatily candles on the chart. Gold was down almost 5% over night, however it has now re-entered its original uptrend channel that has been in place since late 2008. This should act as strong support in the future. Over the next few weeks I expect gold to re-test the bottom band of this channel. Given it has bounced off this line a number of times in the past it should hold. In my last video I said that the Greek Prime Minister would be gone by the end of the week after announcing that he wanted to put the European Bailout Package to a referendum. On Friday he faced a confidence vote in parliament. The Parliament did back him, but only to ensure there would not have to be an election. He then stepped aside and a new unity government will be formed. Silver as we all know is a lot more volatile than gold. However, over the last few days it has joined in Golds rally and has punched above an area of support/resistance. There is however a lot more to be done before I would be super bullish on silver, that does not mean though that further upside will not happen in the short term. The first target for me would be the upper line of support/resistance at around $39. But in order to reach that we need gold to continue to push higher. IMO only the brave would be entering story term positions in silver at the moment. It is prone to wild swings and you must remain on your toes. This was a user requeste video and looks at the recent price action in Platinum. It has pretty much been range bound between $1500 and $1900 for well over a year.
