Strong winds continued Wednesday night into Thursday causing additional damage to hangars and aircraft at Inyokern airport. Fuel trucks were used to block the wind from further damaging already weakend hangar doors until winds subsided Thursday evening. Southern California Edison crews and Kern County Fire Department station 73 in Inyokern fielded several calls for lines downed due to the high winds. Video by David Johnson

Two power poles were snapped and one structure was damaged in Inyokern late this afternoon when a large portion of an awning at the Country Feed Barn was thrown by high winds. Kern County firefighters responded to the hazerdous condition which happend around 5 pm near the intersection of Third St. and Locust Ave. The California Highway Patrol assisted with traffic control while Mediacom and Southern California Edison could restore service in the area. Power to several customers was knocked out for up to an hour and a half from the wind storm. At Inyokern airport three T-Hangers were also damaged by wind gusts as high as 55 MPH. Motorists along US Highway 395 near Little Lake faced winds in excess of 80 MPH with gusts up to 106, however there were no reports of overturned big rigs due to the strong winds. www.wrh.noaa.gov Video by David Johnson

High winds late this afternoon forced a big rig off the road just north of the Highway 395, 14 Junction. The driver of the rig was not injured in the incident, which happened about 5 pm. Winds in the area at the time were gusting to 57 MPH. The National Weather Service office in Hanford, CA has issued a Wind Advisory for the Kern County Desert area; from 5 am Friday until 5 am Saturday. A Wind Advisory means that gusts of 45 MPH or more are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult...especially for high profile vehicles. USE EXTRA CAUTION!
