Iowa Hawkeyes Soar Past Louisiana-Monroe Football 2011 highlights
The Hawks showed what it meant by the phrase "the show goes on". The Hawkeyes led 28-3 at halftime and completed their best overall performance of the season. Quarterback James Vandenberg is in a nice groove; after throwing for 399 yards last week, he completed 21-of-32 passes for 273 yards and three scores on Saturday, plus a rushing touchdown. Marcus Coker added 107 yards on 19 carries. The Iowa offense has now scored at least 31 points in every game; perhaps leaning on the passing game is how Kirk Ferentz's team will win as it continues to improve on defense. That defense gave up a couple of third-quarter touchdowns, but nothing to worry about. And the Hawkeyes committed just one penalty in the game.

The state of Iowa football went from hysterical to historic in the span of seven days. On Saturday, the Hawkeyes defeated 13th-ranked Michigan 24-16. It was the first time in history Iowa has beaten Michigan three straight. "It's a big win for us," sophomore linebacker James Morris said. "We're not dead, like some people might have thought." Some people had written Iowa (6-3, 3-2) off after a loss at Big Ten bottom-dweller Minnesota the previous week. There was unrest about the future of the program with a November schedule featuring three ranked teams. "We try to ignore the noise as much as we can," junior center James Ferentz said. "But obviously you're going to hear some of it. It's one of those things you've got to turn your head from and not listen, not pay attention." Sophomore defensive back BJ Lowery said defensive coordinator Norm Parker tells them to avoid opinions. "Coach Parker tells us from his experience, he never looks at a newspaper, and he never talks to his neighbors about football," Lowery said. "That's exactly what we do." The conversations may be different this week. Iowa used an aggressive defensive game plan that limited the Wolverines running attack and forced Michigan (7-2, 3-2) quarterback Denard Robinson to beat Iowa with his arm. The HAWKS showed the purple and black what it means to be BLACK and YELLOW! Persa didn't go down, but the Wildcat momentum certainly did. A rushed and errant throw was intercepted by Hawkeye free safety Tanner Miller who returned it 98 yards for a touchdown. "It should have been a sack, but elusive Persa got away from me," Binns said. "He shrugged me off and I held onto his feet. I saw Steve Bigach come in to help me out, then I see Tanner Miller running down the sideline, It was a good play for us. Scoring on defense is one of our goals."

Marvin McNutt In Your Endzone- Iowa Hawkeye Football 2011 Record
Marvin McNutt understands how the "show goes on". He scored 3 touchdowns to single handledly own the TD record at Iowa!! The Highway of the Saints has seen a lot of the McNutt family the last few years. Anita and husband Marvin, their other children, and assorted other relatives and friends, have enjoyed driving up from their St. Louis home to watch the Hawkeyes' Marvin do a lot of big things as a wide receiver. But Saturday was something else. McNutt had his first three-touchdown game. He had a personal-best 184 receiving yards, 30.7 per catch And, he broke the Iowa record for career TD catches with No. 22, an 80-yarder that was followed by No. 23 and No. 24 before the first-half was done. Spend five minutes around McNutt's parents, and you feel the love, the pride, and not much tolerance for failing to work hard or stay modest. "I had two drops," McNutt said after the game. "I didn't have a complete game." That, more than owning a school record, is what he'll remember this in the short term. "There are things I did that will be good on the film," he said, "and there will be things I need to clean up." In other words, McNutt won't be taking out any ads today advertising himself as Iowa's new all-time leader in touchdown catches. Drew Tate threw a 56-yard touchdown pass to Warren Holloway on the final play Saturday, a miracle ending that denied Saban a triumphant sendoff to the NFL. Instead No. 13 Iowa stunned No. 11 Louisiana State 30-25 in the Capital One Bowl. (Related item: Game report) "You always dislike losing a game, especially losing a game like this," said Saban, who will become the Miami Dolphins' coach next week.
