FREEDOM HERO: IQBAL MASIH

Courage By Anson Schloat and John G. Young (5.29 Minutes) Iqbal was a child laborer in Pakistan who decided to fight to end the plight of his fellow children. Iqbal's courage inspired others around the world. ---------- Iqbal Masih was born in Pakistan in 1982. He lived in Muridke, near Lahore. Iqbal was sold into slavery at a carpet factory at age four, and worked on looms until the age of 10, when he ran away from the factory and was eventually freed by Ehsan Ulla Khan, of the Bonded Labor Liberation Front, (BLLF). He started attending the BLLF's school. Iqbal refused to go back to the carpet mill where he had worked because he knew his rights as a citizen. Although a child labor law existed in Pakistan, it was not enforced. Soon, speaking out against the mills, he gained international attention. Iqbal eventually started making speeches around the world, talking about child labor and his life experiences. Iqbal won many awards. He was honored by the International Labor Organization in Sweden, received Reebok's 1994 Human Rights Youth Action Award, and while in the United States accepting the award, was nominated for ABC's "Person of the Week." Soon after receiving the award, Iqbal returned to Pakistan, where he was murdered, on April 16, 1995. He was 12 years old. No one really knows who did it, but there are assumptions that the "Carpet Mafia", was responsible, because many carpet industries were losing a lot of business due to Iqbal's speeches. Poem - Shikwah by Allama Iqbal - 1/2 (+Subtitle)

Shikwah (The Complaint) by Allama Iqbal علامہ اقبال[Part 1]. This famous Urdu poem is written in 1911 at Lahore. Here Iqbal is complaining to Allah about the condition of Muslims. He was then a Professor of Philosophy at Government College, Lahore. A year later he wrote Jawab-e-Shikwah (Response to the Complaint). Shikwa (شکوہ) is from Bang-i-Dara [1924], Iqbal's first philosophical poetry book in Urdu. I dedicate this work to Iqbal, the great poet-philosopher of Islam. A Nayyar sings Alalama Iqbal - Utho meri duniya ke ghareeboN ko Jaga do(Farman-e-Khuda)

Revolutionaly poetry of Iqbal Book: Baal-e-Jibreel Poet:Allama Iqbal Singer: A nayyer Faiz and Iqbal are from same place and known as greatest poets of their time..but if we try to have an over all image of them from public..Faiz is known as a biggest revolutionist from his poetic point of view and iqbal's poetry is used too much by religious people that he seems only a religious poet.. Actually faiz chose one dimension and kept himself in that but Iqbal was much more than that..he has written on many topics and in different direction , and different kinda people has taken his poetry as they want..he was a multi dimensional personality. In my personal opinion Iqbal's revolutionary thought was stronger than Faiz..a few examples of such poetry are his poems Inqelab(Zaboor-e-Ajam) Az Khawab -e- Garan Khez Lenin(Khuda ke hazoor main) and this Poem.. Here he clearly says If harvesting a field has no advantage to farmer..its better to burn each seed from that field..which shows he dont like compromises but he just want to do it... Although we shdnt compare both but in one blog i saw this discussion so i am writing this..il write more on this topic with Examples..but i like Iqbal Faiz and Ghalib on their places and never try to compare them..which shd be the way :) Regards Tauseef Lyrics & translation Farman-e-Khuda Utho Mere Duniya Ke Gareebon Ko Jaga Do!! Hum Dekhenge ( Iqbal Bano ) Complete Poem

Hum Dekhenge ( Iqbal Bano ) Poet : Faiz Ahmad Faiz (English Translation) We shall see It is a must that we shall see The day that has been prophesized The one written on the Tablet of Fate We shall see When the insurmountable mountains of oppression Shall blow as if cotton flakes And beneath the feet of us common folk This land will throb with a deafening sound And upon the heads of the despotic folk Lightening will strike a thundering pound. We shall see When from the Palace of our Lord All earthly gods will be taken out We, righteous ones, outcasts of church, shall don a glorious robe, no doubt. All crowns will fly All thrones will fall We shall see Only the name of the Lord will stay on who is unseen, yet ever seeing who is the sight, as well as the scene The shout of "I am The Truth"* shall rise which is true for you and I and the creation of the Lord will rule which is true for you and I. We shall see It is a must that we shall see We shall see. *************************************** Iqbal Bano (1935 - 2009) Was a Ghazal singer from Pakistan and a singer of both classical and modern ghazals. IQBAL BAHU - SAIF UL MALOOK

ABOUT SULTAN BAHU (RA) ------------------------------------------ Sultan Bahu (Punjabi: سلطان باہو) (ca 1628 - 1691) was a Muslim Sufi and saint, who founded the Sarwari Qadiri Sufi order. Sultan Bahu belonged to the Awan tribe, and was born in Anga, Soon Valley, Sakesar (Vadi-e-Soon Sakesar). Like many other Sufi saints of South Asia, Sultan Bahu was a prolific writer, with more than forty books on Sufism attributed to him. Most of His books are in Persian. However, most of his books deal with specialised subjects related to Islam and Islamic mysticism; it is his Punjabi poetry that had popular appeal and made him a household name in the region. His verses are sung in many genres of Sufi music, including qawwali and kafi. Tradition has established a unique style of singing his couplets. Sultan Bahu is a direct descendant from Ali, (cousin of Muhammad, husband of Fatima and father of Hasan ibn Ali and Husayn ibn Ali). Traditionally, he is Hashimi, and belongs to the Awan tribe. Historically the tribe trace their descent to Ameer Shah, son of Qutub Shah whose family lineage is traced back to Ali Shrine of Sultan Bahu The mausoleum of Sultan Bahu is located in Garh Maharaja, Punjab, Pakistan. It was originally built on his grave. However, the mausoleum subsequently had to be moved twice when the Chenab River changed its course. It is a popular and frequently-visited Sufi shrine, and the annual Urs festival commemorating his death is celebrated with great fervour. The Urs ...

Her debut public concert was in 1957, at Lahore Arts Council, before an elite crowd. Music lovers feted her beyond imagination. With each recital, she generated more and more public appeal. She was considered a specialist in singing the works of Faiz Ahmed Faiz. She has given such musical relevance to the ghazals of Faiz, that Bano and Faiz are apparently inseparable in popular imagination. Because of Faiz's imprisonment and hatred of the Pakistani Government towards him, Bano roused a strong crowd of 50000 people in Lahore by singing his passionate Urdu nazm, "Hum Dekhenge." Iqbal Bano can sing Persian ghazals with the same fluency as Urdu. She is always applauded in Iran and Afghanistan for her Persian ghazals. The Iranians and Afghans thronged to her shows in large numbers to hear her ghazals in their mother tongue. Once she said in an interview, that she had a collection of 72 beautiful Persian ghazals. Iqbal: An Approach to Pakistan

Did you think the past was another territory? Think again! Arman has questions. Like many other Pakistanis he also wonders how much of what is told about us about over selves is true. Living at the beginning of the 21st Century, he is doomed to teach an obsolete syllabus of Pakistan Studies to a class of college students. He hated his job until one day he finds himself visiting Iqbal in the 1930's. This is an experimental inter-cutting between two parallel stories running in different times. The first is that of the life and works of Dr. Sir Muhammad Iqbal, who lives in previous century and dreamed of an independent state in this region. The second is the story of Arman, and is unraveled through their intermingling is a mystery about out past, present and future as a people who have much to feel proud of. The epic sequences shot on real locations at Lahore Fort, Jehangir's Mausoleum, Government College Lahore and the McLeod Road Residence where Iqbal was living at the time of writing down his concept of Pakistan come as a visual treat that adds to your experience of travelling back into your future through past and present. Rat gaye -- iqbal baho on PTV - Bullehya kee JanaN Mein Koun

Chal Bulleyaa Chal Ohthey Chaliye -Kalam Baba Bulley Shah Jee A large amount of what is known about Bulleh Shah comes through legends, and is subjective; to the point that there isnt even agreement among historians concerning his precise date and place of birth. Some "facts" about his life have been pieced together from his own writings. Other "facts" seem to have been passed down through oral traditions. Bulleh Shah practiced the Sufi tradition of Punjabi poetry established by poets like Shah Hussain (1538 1599), Sultan Bahu (1629 1691), and Shah Sharaf (1640 1724). Bulleh Shah lived in the same period as the famous Sindhi Sufi poet, Shah Abdul Latif Bhatai (1689 1752). His lifespan also overlapped with the legendary Punjabi poet Waris Shah (1722 1798), of Heer Ranjha fame, and the famous Sindhi Sufi poet Abdul Wahad (1739 1829), better known by his pen-name, Sachal Sarmast (truth seeking leader of the intoxicated ones).

Give me again that wine of love for Thee; Let me gain the place my soul desires. My lyrical vein was all but dried up, still The sheik decrees that, too, should be choked to death. No trail now blazes in new fields of thought, But blind slaves of sufies and mullahs survive. Who snatched away the piercing sword of love? Knowledge is left with an empty sheath alone. With a luminous soul the power of song is life; With a darkened soul that power is eternal death. A full moon glistens in Thy brimful cup; Deprive me not of its silver beams at night.

Allama Iqbal - Shikwa (Complaint to Allah)

I had alreay uploaded this version of Shikwa on my old channel under the title Shikwa, Brst Qawalli Version. but it was not complete and also due to 10 minutes time limit it was uploaded in parts. I could never upload Jawab Shikwa by same artists. Yesterday I decided to upload complete Shikwa and jawab-e-Shikwa in 2 parts. So, here we go for Shikwa. Translation is beautifully done by Khushwant Singh. Hope you will enjoy this most beautiful version of Shikwa. Translation by Khushwant Singh Why must I forever lose, forever forgo profit that is my due, Sunk in the gloom of evenings past, no plans for the morrow pursue. Why must I all attentive be to the nightingales lament, Friend, am I as dumb as a flower? Must I remain silent? My theme makes me bold, makes my tongue more eloquent, Dust fills my mouth, against Allah I make complaint. We won renown for submitting to Your willand it is so; We speak out now, we are compelled to repeat our tale of woe. We are like the silent lute whose chords are full of voice; When grief wells up to our lips, we speak; we have no choice. Lord God! We are Your faithful servants, for a while with us bear, It is in our nature to always praise You, a small plaint also hear. That Your Presence was primal from the beginning of time is true; The rose also adorned the garden but of its fragrance no one knew. Justice is all we ask for. You are perfect, You are benevolent. If there were no breeze, how could the rose have spread its scent? We Your people ...
