My tribute to John Paul II, Karol Wojtyła 1920-2005

Note: Music is Abba Pater from the soundtrack with the same name. Subtitles are in Portuguese. For English or Polish subtitles hover mouse pointer on the bottom right corner and click the 2nd box! I'm sorry if there are any errors in the Polish subtitles! I don't understand Polish so I just copy pasted the translation where I thought they were supposed to be at, so do tell if you find anything wrong. A video I made in homage of one of the greatest human beings that carried his purpose with dedication and sacrifice. May his soul forever rest in peace!

How John Paul II helped Chile and Argentina avoid going to war

Chile and Argentina were at odds over the Islands of the Beagle Channel since the late 19th century. Its a territory between the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans. They turned to mediators such as the Hague Tribunal, the United States Attorney General and the Queen of England. However, none of them managed to bring them in line. Then just hours before the Christmas of 1978, Argentina moved its troops and everything pointed that war was inevitable. Hugo Gobi Diplomatic Minister, Argentine Embassy to the Holy See Both countries had the logic of war behind them. They were both militarised, they were both sending troops to the borders. Actually they were on the brink of war. In the end, Argentine troops didnt occupy the Island and just four months after his election as pontiff, John Paul II accepted to mediate. It was his first mission in international politics. It was a time the papal nuncio in Argentina Cardinal Pio Laghi lived intensely. This is how he remembered the conflict a few months before his death. Card. Pío Laghi Ex-nuncio in Argentina It was John Paul II, in the last hour, that he spoke to them, to those in power, Pinochet on one side and military junta on the other side, he spoke so strongly and he said, wait I come, and he sent immediately a cardinal to see whether they could find a way. The Pope appointed Cardinal Samoré mediator and sent him to the area. He was an effective mediator, in just two weeks the foreign ministers of Chile and Argentina signed the Act ...

Venerable John Paul II: The record breaking pope

John Paul II is without a doubt the pope who has broken the most records in the Churchs history. First, his pontificate is on the longest on record. He was the head of the Catholic Church for 26 years: only Pius IX and Saint Peters pontificates lasted longer than John Paul II. Then he is also the most travelled pope. He left the Vatican more than 1500 times for official trips. He visited 129 countries and travelled more than 1 million kilometers. Thats like going around the globe 30 times. If you a sum up the time he was on trips, you could say he lived outside of Rome for more than 2 ½ years. He also held huge summits in both big cities and small islands with less than 100 inhabitants. The powerful, needy, the healthy and the sick, the young and, old all paid close attention to Pope John Paul II.

John Paul II, an actor with a vocation for the priesthood

When he was young he overcame the death of his entire family, he endured the hard life of a labor worker and he studied in secrecy with the help of his professors. Thats how John Paul IIs vocation was shaped. His story began in the small polish town of Wadowice on May 18, 1920. He was baptized one month later. He said it was here that his vocation as a Christian and for the priesthood was born. After finishing high school, he enrolled at the Jagiellonian University of Krakow to study Polish philology and also enrolled in an acting school. But the war and the Nazi occupation would change his plans. John Paul II "On one hand, you can say that my youth was marked by the Divine Providence because many of my friends lost their lives in very different circumstances, in the war or in concentration camps. This is called Shoa which in Hebrew means extermination of people. All of this belongs to the history of our century and Ive lived this story during my youth. And through this suffering, I learned to see the real world in a profound way." At the age of 19, he started working at a stone quarry and later at a chemical factory in Solvay to earn a living and avoid deportation to Germany. Three years later, he decided to join an underground seminary organized by the bishop of Krakow, Cardinal Sapieha. John Paul II "That experience as a worker and a "clandestine" seminarian has stayed with me all my life. I used to take books with me to the factory during my eight-hour shift, during ...

John Paul The Great A Pope Who Made History

bit.ly Karol Jozef Wojtyla, known as John Paul II since his October 1978 election to the papacy, was born in the Polish town of Wadowice, a small city 50 kilometers from Krakow, on May 18, 1920. Throughout his early twenties, and during World War II, he had to work in a Nazi-run rock quarry to earn a living and to avoid being deported to Germany. In 1942, aware of his call to the priesthood, he began courses in the clandestine seminary of Krakow, run by Cardinal Adam Stefan Sapieha, archbishop of Krakow, and was ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop Sapieha in Krakow on November 1, 1946. He carried out his priesthood under the constant watchful eye of Poland's communist regime. The Cardinals elected him Pope at the Conclave of October 1978, and he took the name of John Paul II. His election sent cheers through his native Poland since he was the first Slav ever to take the seat of St. Peter. His pontificate, one of the longest in the history of the Church, lasted nearly 27 years. During that time he would change the image of the papacy forever, with a mass appeal never before seen in the history of the Church. John Paul The Great takes you through the extraordinary life of one of the 21st century's greatest men.

Who is behind the shooting of John Paul II?

For the past twenty-five years, the world has wondered, Who ordered the shooting of the pope John Paul II? But now, we may have an answer about what happened on May 13 1981. Paolo Guzzanti, Italian Senator and president of the parliaments committee investigating the shooting, says he knows who did it. Senator Paolo Guzzanti President, Investigative Committee The former KGB director of the Soviet Union, Mr. Yuri Andropov, sent an order to all the KGB around the world around Europe and especial in Rome with the goal of character assassination first on the person of the pope. According to the committee, the Soviets used the Bulgarian and East German secret service. The key evidence is in this photo, which shows Bulgarian agent Sergei Antonov in St. Peters Square, overseeing the operation: Senator Paolo Guzzanti President, Investigative Committee "Now we gave specialized and pathologist using sophisticated high tech computer and they found that man was him." Guzzanti says that it wasnt the KGB that was behind the shooting, but rather the GRU, the Soviet military secret service, since the peaceful Polish revolution prevented the deployment of the Soviet Army in Europe. Senator Paolo Guzzanti President, Investigative Committee "What the GRU observed by the end of 1979 was the block of availability of polish territory. They need to clear this territory." And so the Soviets also ordered another hit. This time it would be the Polish Solidarity movement leader, Lech Walesa. Senator ...
