Unlike many songs of this nature, in the end, the singer's faith proves to be well-founded and a happy relationship ensues. The first released version of "Oh No Not My Baby" was by Maxine Brown. Released in September 1964, Brown's "Oh No Not My Baby" spent seven weeks in the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 in December 1964 - January 1965 with a #24 peak. Also, Aretha Franklin in 1970, Merry Clayton in 1972, Rod Stewart in 1973, Cher in 1992, Linda Ronstadt in 1993. Carole King herself recorded it in 1980.

First recorded by The Everly Brothers in July 1960, the song is also well known from a 1975 international hit version by the rock band Nazareth and in the UK by a top 5 hit in 1975 by Jim Capaldi. The song was introduced in December 1960 as an album track on A Date with The Everly Brothers, but was never released as a single (A-side or B-side) by the Everlys. The first hit version of the song was by Roy Orbison, who earned Australian radio play, hitting the Top Five of that country's singles charts in 1961. A recording by Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons was included on Parsons' posthumously released Grievous Angel album. After Parsons' 1973 death, Harris made the song a staple of her repertoire, and has included it in her concert set lists from the 1970s to the present. Harris has since re-recorded the song twice. The most successful recording of the song was by hard rock/heavy metal band Nazareth, who took the song to the US Top 10 in 1975 and hit number one in Norway and the Netherlands. In the UK the most successful version of the song was by former Traffic member Jim Capaldi, who took it to number four in the charts in November 1975 during a 11-week run. The song was also covered by Cher in 1975 for her album Stars. Cher re-recorded the song in 1991 for her album of <b>...</b>

Hey Idol fans, I'm Bridget Daly for ClevverMusic, breaking down last night's Motown-themed episode. Jacob Lusk was far and away the best part of the evening, feeling right at home with his performance of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's "You're All I Need to Get By." While some of his past performances have been a little all over the place, Lusk took Jimmy Iovine's advice of holding back a little on the song this time around, and he killed it! The judges were in love with his rendition, with Steven Tyler even rushing the stage to hug Jacob, calling him a "baby Luther." Randy Jackson added that there was quote "nothing" wrong with his performance of the song, and J.Lo agreed that he made everyone in the audience beg for the notes. Other notable performances of the evening included Pia Toscano's rendition "All In Love Is Fair," but we agree with the judges that we're ready to hear her take on an up-tempo song next week. James Durbin proved that Adam Lambert isn't the only one who can belt out those high notes, and finished the show with Stevie Wonder's "Living For the City."
