James Dean-Rebel Without a Cause: Inspriational Performance

I have always loved James Dean, but have only recently begun exploring his work. This video contains spectacular excerpts from Jimmy's film, Rebel Without a Cause. The vid focuses mainly on the character Jimbo's relationship with his father. It is a beautiful and poetically told timeless story on many levels... the most profound being the relationship between a man and his son; who is trying to find his way into his own "manhood" with his father's guidance. Jimmy studied at the Actor's Studio with Strasberg who's work was based on the innovations of Constantin Stanislavski.... fully developing into what is now called "method acting". Jimmy was directed by Elia Kazan in East of Eden.... (Marilyn Monroe was an "Usherette" for East of Eden.) Kazan who directed East of Eden was a close friend of Arthur Miller's until their falling out over Kazan's naming names during the investigations of the HUAC. Kazan was also one of Marilyn's lovers during certain periods in his life. She always wanted to work with him, but unfortunately, it never came to fruition. The film "Baby Doll" was directed by Kazan and Marilyn was a front runner for the lead roll.

James Dean in Studio One: Sentence of Death - Season 5, Episode 46 (1953)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org Dean's first television appearance was in a Pepsi Cola television commercial. He quit college to act full time and was cast as John the Beloved Disciple in Hill Number One, an Easter television special, and three walk-on roles in movies, Fixed Bayonets!, Sailor Beware, and Has Anybody Seen My Gal? His only speaking part was in Sailor Beware, a Paramount comedy starring Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis; Dean played a boxing trainer. While struggling to get jobs in Hollywood, Dean also worked as a parking lot attendant at CBS Studios, during which time he met Rogers Brackett, a radio director for an advertising agency, who offered him professional help and guidance in his chosen career, as well as a place to stay. In October 1951, following actor James Whitmore's and his mentor Rogers Brackett's advice, Dean moved to New York City. There he worked as a stunt tester for the game show Beat the Clock. He also appeared in episodes of several CBS television series, The Web, Studio One, and Lux Video Theatre, before gaining admission to the legendary Actors Studio to study Method acting under Lee Strasberg. Proud of this accomplishment, Dean referred to the Studio in a 1952 letter to his family as "The greatest school of the theater. It houses great people like Marlon Brando, Julie Harris, Arthur Kennedy, Mildred Dunnock. ... Very few get into it ... It is the best thing that can happen to an actor. The motto of the these Holy Cross Family Ministries is, "The family that prays together, stays together." The program had no commercial sponsor, yet Father Peyton, CSC arranged for many of Hollywood's stars in film and radio at the time to appear. In its ten-year run, well-known actors and actresses, including James Stewart, Bob Hope, Lucille Ball, Raymond Burr, Jane Wyatt, Charlton Heston, Bing Crosby, Jack Benny, Gene Kelly, William Shatner and Chuck Connors, appeared as announcers, narrators or stars. A total of 540 episodes were produced. The program featured not only religious stories but half-hour adaptations of literary works such as A Tale of Two Cities, Moby-Dick and Don Quixote. In 1951, while the radio version was still on the air, Family Theater moved to television, and the spelling of the title was altered (Family Theatre). On TV, it was extended to one hour. Father Peyton also hosted the TV version, which ran for seven years. One of their episodes was Hill Number One, famous for featuring an early appearance by James ...

From beginning to end, his commitment to the job bordered on obsession." says Alistair King, Executive Creative Director at King James. "This was an incredibly challenging board, says Rose. You just take it for granted that James Dean is so iconic, so to go and mess with him and replan his life, if it doesnt work its like youre desecrating his memory." We really needed to deal with it with sensitivity. According to Karin Barry-McCormack and Paige Nick, the creative team from King James; "For both of us, this was without a doubt the most exciting, challenging and intricate television project we have ever worked on. And it was amazing to work so closely with such a passionate team and such a collaborative client."

James Dean, Frank Overton, Robert Pastene in Studio One in Hollywood: Abraham Lincoln (1952)

thefilmarchive.org DVD: www.amazon.com Frank Emmons Overton (March 12, 1918 -- April 24, 1967) was an American actor. Overton appeared in numerous television programs during the early 1950s and through the late 1960s, including The Fugitive (TV series) in 1963. In his role as General Bogan in the film Fail-Safe (1964), Overton appeared in a famous scene where he makes small talk over a secure communications unit with his Soviet counterpart while thumbing through the man's dossier. The Fugitive Overton played Major Stovall in the TV series Twelve O'Clock High, and also had a major role in the movie Wild River, where he appears as the jilted fiance of Lee Remick. His last TV role was that of "Elias Sandoval" in Star Trek's "This Side of Paradise", which originally aired in March 1967 just one month before his sudden death, at age 49. Screenwriter William Bast was one of Dean's closest friends, a fact acknowledged by Dean's family. According to Dean's first biographer (1956), Bast was his roommate at UCLA and later in New York, and knew Dean throughout the last five years of his life. Fifty years after Dean's death, he stated that their friendship had included some sexual intimacy. Early in Dean's career, after Dean signed his contract with Warner Brothers, the studio's public relations department began generating stories about Dean's liaisons with a variety of young actresses who were mostly drawn from the clientele of Dean's Hollywood agent, Dick Clayton. James Dean - What Hurts the Most

A tribute to my idol, James Dean Lyrics I can take the rain on the roof of this empty house That don't bother me I can take a few tears now and then and just let them out I'm not afraid to cry every once in a while Even though going on with you gone still upsets me There are days every now and again I pretend I'm ok But that's not what gets me What hurts the most Was being so close And having so much to say And watching you walk away And never knowing What could have been And not seeing that loving you Is what I was tryin' to do It's hard to deal with the pain of losing you everywhere I go But I'm doin' It It's hard to force that smile when I see our old friends and I'm alone Still Harder Getting up, getting dressed, livin' with this regret But I know if I could do it over I would trade give away all the words that I saved in my heart That I left unspoken What hurts the most Is being so close And having so much to say And watching you walk away And never knowing What could have been And not seeing that loving you Is what I was trying to do What hurts the most Is being so close And having so much to say And watching you walk away And never knowing What could have been And not seeing that loving you Is what I was trying to do Not seeing that loving you That's what I was trying to do
