Elmore James - Cry for me Baby
Elmore James (January 27, 1918 -- May 24, 1963) was an American blues guitarist, singer, song writer and band leader. He was known as The King of the Slide Guitar and had a unique guitar style, noted for his use of loud amplification and his stirring voice. His best known song is the blues standard "Dust My Broom" (also known as "Dust My Blues"). The song gave its name to James's band, The Broomdusters. The song's opening slide guitar riff is one of the best-known sounds in all of blues. It is essentially the same riff that appears in the recording of the same song by Robert Johnson, but James played the riff with electric slide guitar. It was even transformed into a doo-wop chorus on Jesse Stone's "Down in the Alley", recorded by The Clovers and Elvis Presley. Stone transcribed the riff as: "Changety changety changety changety chang chang!"

Tappan Zee Records was formed in July 1977 by pianist and arranger Bob James. Named for the bridge and the river James often crossed on his way home from New York City recording sessions, the specialty label was distributed by industry giant, Columbia Records. There, James had found great popular success as director of progressive A&R (1975-77), overseeing substantial hits for Paul Simon, Neil Diamond, Maynard Ferguson and Kenny Loggins. Tappan Zee afforded James the opportunity to be in the studios more often, recording more of his own music and choosing those with whom he wanted to record. Indeed, James recorded prolifically during this time. Tappan Zee issued all of Bob James's solo recordings between 1977 and 1984 (and one of his two collaborations during this period with guitarist Earl Klugh) as well as a handful of records by other artists between 1977 and 1980. In that time, Tappan Zee Records - guided nearly single-handedly by the musical vision of Bob James - set the standard for what fusion jazz sounded like in the late 1970s. James brought to Tappan Zee Records many of the lessons he learned while a session player and arranger for Creed Taylor's CTI Records (1971-76): distinctive leaders, large all-star orchestras, a good mix of dramatic, exploratory tunes and popular covers, first-call rhythm players (Eric Gale, Ron Carter, Steve Gadd, Idris Muhammad, Ralph MacDonald), exceptional production (in collaboration with engineer Joe Jorgensen) and iconic gatefold <b>...</b>

Sonny James - You're The Only World I Know (original version 1964)
Singer, songwriter Sonny James is best known for his 1957 smash hit, "Young Love." Dubbed the Southern Gentleman, Sonny used the popular Nashville sound of the '60s to mold pop hits of the past into a style accessible to many. Although his recordings made the pop charts for a time in the late '50s, his success was crafted on the country charts. Born James Loden on May 1, 1929, he began performing with his amateur show-business family at the age of three and played with his four sisters as the Loden Family while in his teens. The group appeared around the South and on radio shows like the Louisiana Hayride (KWKH) and Saturday Night Shindig (WFAA, Dallas, Texas). In the spring of 1948, the family act broke up when Sonny was inducted into the military service. After spending time overseas during the Korean War (1950 ~1952), he went to Shreveport, Louisiana where he appeared on the famed Louisiana Hayride over KWKH. From there, his career took him to Dallas, Texas where he appeared on WFAA radio programs. Later, he became a star on the Big D Jamboree and the Red Foley show out of Springfield, Missouri - the Ozark Jubilee. From Dallas, Sonny moved to Nashville, Tennessee where he met Chet Atkins. Chet later got Sonny a tryout with Capitol Records. James inked a contract with capitol and started working under the helm of AR Executive Ken Nelson. For the first session (6/11/1952), Ken selected four songs written during James's tour in Korea. Atkins was recruited for lead guitar <b>...</b>
