Underwater Vertical Jigging Tai Kabura Jigs
A brief video describing one of the methods we use with Tai-Kabura type vertical jigs. In this case, we are using a small 3/4 oz (21gr) jig tied above a 5.5 oz jig (150gr). Jigging with new Berkley Elevator Jigs
www.reefari.com Jigging with the new Berkley Elevator jigs was well worthwile out on a recent fishing trip, hooking 3 absolute monsters on one shoal, Not sure what they were, but three drifts, three big hookups, and Lee was buggered, top effort. In the end the leader was too light and wore through. Lee had 60 lb leader on but with big fish and long fights, worth using heavier leader, would recommend 80 or 100 lb. Must have been either big cobia or Monster Golden Trevally. They'll fight hard and take some stopping. These new elevator jigs are awesome and well worth having a few in your tackle box. And well worth using in deeper water, we were fishing in about 50 metres. These new jigs are nice and heavy allowing you to fish the depths, but also have a nice articulated head joining the hook, still allowing plenty of movement with your soft plastic. Lee upgraded to a bigger hook and is well worth considering depending on your target fish and size. Well worth trying these new Berkley elevator jigs and we'll be using them alot more. These jigs were developed by Mark 'The Captain' Phillips while targeting Snapper and Kings in New Zealand and are also well suited to deepwater jigging on the Great Barrier reef. The idea was to get Berkley Gulp Jerkshads jigs down deep quickly and still retain that deadly fluttering, wounded baitfish action and obviously works!! www.reefari.com Another top day out on the water, and some excellant jigging the deep reefs of Mackay out in the Shipping Channel. This is only part of a great day's fishing, but well worth checking out the great success on jigs. We had a good trolling session and landed several Spanish Mackerel on lures, but the boat traffic sent them deep, so knowing the fish were there, we got the knife jigs out, and proceeded to lose them, with no wire. We were seeing heaps of fish on the sounder down deep and decided to drop some jigs down. Well worth giving the jigs a go, you can see the fish are there but not biting on baits, it's well worth giving Jigging a go. Bit of action on the jigs seems to get the fish biting, and quality ones at that. We did lose alot of jigs at the first spot to Spanish mackerel, so make sure you have a bit of wire, or wire assist hooks on your jigs. The berkley gulps are awesome plastics and love the 7 " Jerk shads. We got some lovely Golden Trevally and a real nice estuary cod on the Them. I got busted up by a horse fish which smashed me about half way up, must have been a big golden trevally, just couldn't stop him. A Good mixed bag catching Nannygai, Trevally, Mangrove Jack, and even sea going Catfish. Even double headers, they certainly fight hard. But a definate suprise was the plastic jigs from Berkley Gulp, Weird names but the fish didn't mind, and first time I've see jigging at night and very effective. How to Rig for Vertical Jigging?
Steven Mets, Belgian Fishbelly ambassador, explains how to rig for vertical jigging. This type of rig is very effective for sander (aka walleye) fishing. As Steven explains this technique, you just drop it on top of the fish lifting the tip of the rod slightly every few seconds to create a flipper action in the Hawg Shad's tail. He also used Fishbelly Secret Sauce - Spearing scent on the Marsh Killie color (#02) to attract the sander to strike.

Jigging Hapuka (Grouper)
Jigging hapuka is always a challenge in deep water but here we use Jigging Master 3 Kings special rods and Jigging Master PE5n reels with about 400 meters of Jigging Master PE65 that make short work of the job. Compared to conventional grouper rods these new parabolic rods are the bees knees when it comes to all types of fishing.

Jigging Deep Reefs with Jigs, Wolf Herrings, Wogs!!
www.reefari.com Jigging is something you must do when fishing the deep reefs and shoals, on the Great Barrier Reef. Sea this video has a bit of everything, with River 2 Sea Jigs, Wolf herring and Even Gar on wogs. Bit of an unknown jigging technique, but the Wogs and lead heads, enable you to drop a bait down as well and work when the fish are holding deep. Knife Jigs such as the River 2 Sea are dropped to the bottom and a high speed retrieve is deadly on spanish Mackerel. When deep sea fishing and baits aren't working, try some jigging, a Bit of movement can save the day and can get the fish biting. A up and down, jerking technique with baits also work, and Jason's Wolf herring Jig didn't last long and was also smashed. Always pays to have a bit of wire leader, only short say 10cm, and use wire assist hooks, which protects you from getting bitten off by sharp Spanish Mackerel teeth. Ian picked up a large cod from the Bottom on the reef, which was an unexpected bonus, and shows other reef fish, will grab a jig at times. We've even caught large blue spot coral trout!!
