Well, after so many of you have asked for me to explain what I'm doing and to show a profile of my bass drum technique I have finally done both requests in one vid. If you have questions about anything, be sure to ask. I hope you benefit from this in some way. I'd like to stress that this technique is not the formal or conventional way to execute the "heel toe" technique, my version, (from what I've seen Bonham played this way too), is an offspring and is meant for an unported bass drum. A ported one is not as "fussy" and burying the beater has no consequences to the sound.

Here is the first video with the new crash. My old 18" Paiste finally got a crack in it so after all these years, I had to replace it. I tried the 18" medium but exchanged it for the regular (crash). The medium sounded too thin and the pitch was higher than I like so those of you who are in search of another crash, I found the regular "crash" to sound better than the "medium". More body. I decided to groove some Bonham stuff, mixed with a bit of me too. I am really digging the sound of the Profire 2626, I hope you do as well! Enjoy. If your wondering why I don't choke the crash at the end it's because the cymbal is so new and shiny I didn't want to get my fingerprints all over it ...just yet anyway!! Also, I'm wearing the "Drummer Connection" t-shirt that was so kindly sent to me for free! In fact, I was also sent a hat and a mouse pad in a "care package" because they dig what I'm up to.

All the cymbals are PAISTE 2002 series. The Hi-hats are Sound Edge 15", the Crashes are 16", 18", 20", the Ride is 24". No muffling was used except felt strips for the Bass Drum (Front & Back). An emotional Tribute to John Henry Bonham from sister Deborah Bonham. Salty Dog drummer Khurt Maier. Deborah absolutely killed this song. Pat Bonham (John's widow), Jason (son) and Zoe (daughter) were in attendance. There are drummers and there are DRUMMERS. John Henry "Bonzo" Bonham was the latter. The anchor of the heaviest band ever to grace the stage, Led Zeppelin, and undoubtedly the best drummer in rock 'n' roll history, he died on this day 30 years ago. After a day of heavy drinking, he was put to bed at band member Jimmy Page's home and was found the next morning by his other bandmate, John Paul Jones. A sad day in rock history. When one thinks of this incident, Don McLean's song "American Pie" comes to mind because an aspect of music definitely died that day. "Bonzo: The Groove Remains The Same," a tribute in honor of the legendary sticksman, September 25, 2010 at the Key Club in Los Angeles, California.
