Dame Kiri Te Kanawa sings Richard Strauss' "Die Nacht" with Sir Georg Solti on the piano. ∞∞∞ Night steps out of the woods, And slips softly from the trees, Gazes about her in a wide circle, Now beware. All the lights of this earth, All flowers, all colors She extinguishes, and steals the sheaves From the fields. She takes everything that is dear, The silver from the stream, From the cathedral's copper roof, The gold. The shrubs stand plundered, Draw closer, soul to soul; Oh, I fear the night, will steal You, too, from me. ∞∞∞
