Hair Style Shoot by Karl Taylor Photography

Get More FREE Training Videos at my website: www.karltaylorphotography.com Hi Guys, I thought I would share this video with you that we made during a recent client shoot. The shoot was for a hair stylist award and although the project was a professional one, it's wonderfully simple in the lighting technique and approach. It's what's known as a low key style, basically dark subject matter on a dark background, and is a straightforward 2 light set up. What's really interesting is that for my backlight I substituted my usual studio light with a couple of standard strobes.... I explain why in the video. The main light is standard 1m square soft-box but carefully placed overhead, but it could just as easily been another strobe into a white brolly. The great thing that I think this shoot demonstrates is that great shots CAN be achieved even with minimal equipment (although I admit I'm using a Hasselblad and my studio!) the real key to the success of a shoot like this is the combination of all involved.... the hair stylists, make up artists and the great work of the models. Enjoy! Get More FREE Training Videos at my website: www.karltaylorphotography.com

Strobist Equipment And Tips by Karl Taylor

Get More FREE Training Videos at my website: www.karltaylorphotography.com In the UK we say "flash" and in the USA they say "strobes". Either way using them for more complex lighting scenarios has become all the rage and the technique has become commonly know as strobist or even strobism. But let's face it, all we are talking about is adding light and how we add light to our subject, preferably without having to spend a small fortune on a load of studio kit, ranger packs and generators! There is however quite a bit more to it than that and the techniques for lighting are covered in depth in our series of DVDs, but what I thought I would share with you today is some information about the kit itself. In this video I take a look at some setups for strobists and some tips on how to make your flash work better and more effectively. Enjoy! Karl Taylor. In this video Karl shows us some tips and techniques for photographing flowing water. We have a look at how different shutter speeds affect the atmosphere of our shot and how a polarizing filter (which he loses!) works to increase the contrast by reducing surface reflections. Karl Taylor Takes 840 Portraits in One Day!!

The Annual Guernsey Festival of Photography is set to become one of the world's most respected festivals of the art. As part of it, Karl Taylor endeavoured to photograph as many people in one day as he could or were willing. This year's festival theme was war photography with contributions from some world famous photojournalists. Karl's project for the festival focused on a celebration of life of the people of Guernsey 65 years after their liberation from occupation during the Second World War. His revealing final image is a fitting reminder of the freedom we all now enjoy as a result of the sacrifices of so many in our recent history.

Test Motion Time Lapse Footage by Karl Taylor

Get More FREE Training Videos at my website: www.karltaylorphotography.com We've been recently testing motion time lapse footage for some of the sequences that we will be filming in the desert in the USA this May. These random work in progress clips were made over the last couple of weeks and they demonstrate what can be achieved in a short space of time. The tidal sequence was made over 6 hours from high tide to low tide, the forest and flowers was about 2 hours and the beach and stars about 3 hours. We actually started using static time lapse a few years ago in the production and filming for our DVDs but are always keen to find other interesting methods of filming and telling the story. This motion time lapse makes the footage a lot more dynamic and interesting to look at. I've really enjoyed the challenge of time lapse photography and now having had a taster of what we have captured in just these few clips I can't wait to experiment further! I hope you enjoy this short test footage and I will update you on the techniques and equipment at a later time when we have perfected the techniques! All the best Karl. Dim the sun - Lowering ambient light for dramatic photos

You can shoot in any condition at any time of day and create amazingly dramatic lighting. This is just to show you what's possible when you start to get a handle on the technique.
