KENNETH ANGER - PUCE MOMENT

Kenneth Anger's short film about actresses in Hollywood in their mansions during the late '40's. This is part of a proposed feature-length film that sadly never got made, but this elegant and stylish dream-like memoir hints at the strange sweetness and flair for ennui and outrageouseness that Anger could inspire.

Kenneth Anger's Hollywood Babylon part 1

Profile of Kenneth Anger, looking at the uproar his books on Hollywood scandals caused and journeying through the darker side of Hollywood's history, including film clips, and Anger playing a guide with comedian Mike McShane playing the God of Hollywood. It also includes a look at some of Anger's own work. Film historian Kevin Brownlow has repeatedly criticized the book, citing Anger as saying his research method was, "Mental telepathy, mostly." *Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Kenneth Anger - Lucifer Rising (Original With Jimmy Page Soundtrack)

Early cut of Lucifer Rising available : Lucifer Rising, the film by Kenneth Anger that was originally intended to have a soundtrack by Jimmy Page, was eventually released in a much longer version with a soundtrack by Bobby Beausoleil. An early cut of the film with Jimmy Page's music intact was shown a few times in the seventies. By the mid eighties, only four prints were thought to exist. It has never been available to the public. The quality of the VHS tape that I received is far from good, so the digital rip is exactly as is. Given that this is probably the only copy anyone is ever likely to see, I'm sure connoisseurs of the curious and unusual will be delighted to see it nonetheless. Anger Me trailer

Dir. Elio Gelmini 2006 72 min. Canada "Anger Me" documents the life and works of Kenneth Anger, pivotal figure in the history of experimental film. A major personality of the 1960's and 1970's who defined himself as a "cinematographic magician" and his "cinema" as a ritualistic form, he is particularly well-known for his films "Fireworks" (1947), "Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome" (1954), "Scorpio Rising" (1963) and "Lucifer Rising" (1970-1981). Kenneth credits the use of esoteric symbolism, prevalent in his films, to Aleister Crowley (1875-1947), the great magician, advocate of Gnosticism and neo-paganism. Contemporaries like Stan Brakhage and Harry Smith were influenced by and expanded upon Anger's approach in what was known as Underground film. Later on, this "underground" influenced Martin Scorsese-the contemporary mainstream exponent of this expressionistic style-who openly acknowledges Anger's influence on his film technique. Kenneth is also known as the author of the tell-all series of books on sordid scandals of many famous and infamous Hollywood denizens from the 1900s to the 1950s entitled "Hollywood Babylon" originally published by Jean-Jacques Pauvert (well known for publishing the work of the Marquis de Sade in the early 1950s and the first publisher of "Story of O") in France. This unprecedented documentary includes a special appearance of Jonas Mekas, the godfather of American avant-garde filmmaking, and music by Bobby Beausoleil, Steven Brown, Nikolas ...

Arabesque for Kenneth Anger (1958 - 61) by Marie Menken

"There is no why for my making films. I just liked the twitters of the machine, and since it was an extension of painting for me, I tried it and loved it. In painting I never liked the staid and static, always looked for what would change the source of light and stance, using glitters, glass beads, luminous paint, so the camera was a natural for me to try—but how expensive!" - Marie Menken 16mm, color, sound, 4 min Original score by Teiji Ito. "A new sound version of this classic. It is a beautiful experience to see her fabulous shooting. The cutting is just as fabulous and is something for all to study; the new score by Teiji Ito is 'out of this world' with its many leveled instrumentation. Marie says 'These animated observations of tiles and Moorish architecture were made as a thank-you to Kenneth for helping to shoot on another film in Spain.' Rabbit's Moon | part 2

Anger | 1972 The rabbit in the moon is lifted out of Japanese myth, with the moon in Crowleyan terms representing the female principal. The character Pierrot was based on Crowley's tarot card of the Fool, which meant divine inspiration in spiritual or creative matters, but folly, mania, or death in everyday affairs. Originally filmed in 1950, Anger only finished and released it in 1972, before re-releasing it in a second edition with a new soundtrack and other alterations in 1979. Soundtrack contains "There's A Moon Out Tonight" by The Capris, "Oh, What a Night" by The Dells, "Bye Bye Baby" by Mary Wells, "I Only Have Eyes For You" by The Flamingos and "Tears On My Pillow" by The El Dorados. The 1979 version, which is speeded up, instead features the song "It Came in the Night" by the band A Raincoat played on a loop.
EAUX D'ARTIFICE (1953) Kenneth Anger - 1 of 2

Eaux d'artifice is a 1953 short film which consists entirely of a woman dressed in eighteenth century clothes, who wanders amidst the garden fountains of the Villa d'Este in Tivoli, Italy, until she steps into a fountain and disappears. According to interviews with the film's creator, Kenneth Anger, the actress was actually a small circus performer introduced to him by Federico Fellini. The title, a play on words, is meant to suggest Feux d'artifice (Fireworks), in obvious reference to Anger's earlier 1947 short film. In 1993, "Eaux D'Artifice" was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". 1 of 2 segments.

Kenneth Anger - Kustom Kar Kommandos

Kustom Kar Kommandos was originally to be an eight part, 30 minute film which Anger described as an erotic vision of a contemporary American (and specifically Californian) teenage phenomenon, the world of hot-rod and customized cars. Anger made the episode presently shown as Kustom Kar Kommandos to raise funds to finish the film, but was unable to do so and the project was abandoned. *Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.
