Pumping Keramas a Tube Fest on Day 3 of Quiksilver Open 2009 Womens Champion Crowned in Roxy Open Final 1 November 2009, Keramas-Bali: As promised, the action today at the Quiksilver Open 2009 presented by Jim Beam was nothing short of hot and heavy. The booming 4-6 foot sets that were blasting onto the lava bottomed reef of Keramas were launching big walls and meaty barrels in a stellar continuation of Mens Open competition in the final Coca-Cola ISC Tour event of the year. Making a rare appearance in an ISC tour event the year and absolutely killing it today was Made Bol Adi Putra, a previous ISC tour champion. In his Round 1 heat against fellow goofy footer Komang Gogo Sujaya of Kuta and Sandi Slamet from West Java, Adi Putra swung around and buried himself deep into an insanely long barrel to exit with the top score of the day, a 9.25. Adi Putra followed that up with another barrel that got him an 8.5 for the top combination of scores for the day, a 17.75, to win the heat, then later went on to win his Round 3 heat as well. He will be one to watch going down to the final, as it appears that the knee injury he sustained earlier in the year isnt holding him up at all, going backside at Keramas. Round 2 and the first four heats of Round 3 were completed today before letting the Masters out into the lineup to complete their two semifinals and tee up the top four surfers who will compete in the Masters Final. At the horn in Semifinal 1 it was Jake Paterson and Ketut ...

Tai Buddha Graham Wins Quiksilver Open 2009 Lee Wilson Crowned 2009 Coca-Cola ISC Champ 3 November 2009, Keramas-Bali: In a 30 minute final conclusion to five days of intense surfing competition at the 6-Star Prime Quiksilver Open 2009 at Keramas Beach in Bali, Tai Buddha Graham bested newly crowned 2009 Indonesian Surfing Champion Lee Wilson to boast his first Coca-Cola Indonesian Surfing Championship Tour win and top the podium to receive a trophy and the 20 million Rupiah winners check. Graham, who also doubles as an announcer at most of the ISC Tour events and hails from the Gold Coast of Australia, was in shock when he returned to the beach. This is unreal, he said. Its gonna take a bit for it to all to sink in I think. I never expected to win an event like this.ever. I was just happy to get to nab some big Keramas barrels with just a couple other guys outbut never dreamed Id be atop the podium at the end of it all! he added. Graham surfed from Round 2 and was a standout in the big and hollow waves that were the rule during the majority of the event. And he did it all with a broken toe, sustained at Cloud 9 in the Philippines three weeks ago. When asked how it felt, he laughed and replied Hahaha.what broken toe? Cant feel a thing now mate! But ya, at times I felt it a bit doing bottom turns, thats why I mostly just went for the barrel. I couldnt have ever imagined winning a heat like this in 3 foot windy Keramas, not to mention a final against Lee. Lee is my good ...

Big Upsets at Keramas on Day 4 of the Quiksilver Open 2009 2 November 2009, Keramas-Bali: It was a day of upsets at the Quiksilver Open 2009 today at Keramas Beach, with four of the top seeded Coca-Cola Indonesian Surfing Championship surfers in the running for the 2009 title now out of the competition. Dede Suryana, Raditya Rondi, Dedy Santoso, and front-runner Garut Widiarta are all out of the competition after failing to advance through Round 4 today. Lee Wilson is the only one of the top 5 to gain entrance into the quarterfinals that will be held tomorrow, and simply put, Lee must win his quarterfinal against Jake Patersonor Garut Widiarta will become the 2009 ISC Championby a mere 400 points! Lee Wilson easily won his man-on-man Round 4 heat against Mustofa Jeksen, getting the highest combined heat score of day, 16 points, with first a 7.7 point wave and then an 8.5, comboing the unlucky Jeksen. Clearly focused, Lee has made no bones about the fact that he wants the 2009 trophy on his mantle in the off-season. First to be eliminated this morning was 2008 ISC Champion Dede Suryana in Heat 7 of Round 3, finishing in last place while Tai Buddha Graham scored the highest wave score of the day, a 9 point barrel that drew hoots from the crowd. His broken toe sustained while surfing two weeks ago didnt seem to be a factor when riding in the barrel. I dropped in kind of late but thought I had a chance, so was driving down the barrel when I saw it started to pinch, and I ...

Keramas Treats Round One Surfers to Perfect Conditions to Kick Off Quiksilver Open 2009 31 October 2009, Keramas-Bali: A building swell and rising ride combined to give the first round contestants in the Quiksilver Open 2009 at Keramas Beach a perfect morning of 4-5 foot green Indian Ocean barrels, resulting in some super entertainment for the fans on the beach and a memorable start to the Mens Open division of the final Coca-Cola Indonesian Surfing Championship event of the year. The waves are so sick out there right now, exclaimed Contest Director and ex-pro surfer Jake The Snake Paterson back on the beach after his Round 1 heat. I got so pitted on my very first wave. I had to fight my way out a bit at the end, but it was so nice and green and glassy inside.just like a dream. I love this wave! he added with a grin. Heat 2 of Round 1 was hands down the heat of the day, with Paterson trading blows with Sanur local Ketut Kunyit Suarta, Mattia Morri from Italy, and Nyoman Maika from Kuta. Morri got the heat started by slotting in to a barrel on his backside for a score of 7.25, the highest score of the heat (matched in the next heat by Wayan Robot Susiana), but was soon overtaken by Paterson who chalked up a 6.5 and 5.1 to take second place. Morri couldnt find another high score to match to his first score, so was relegated to 3rd place and out of a Round 2 berth. Winning the heat was Suarta posting first a 5.75 and then slotting into a very deep one that the judges quite ...

Billabong Pro Junior Asia at Keramas River-Day 2

Ideal offshore clean surf greeted competitors surfing the Association of Surfing Professionals Billabong Pro Junior Asia at Keramas River-mouth and all 16 round two heats were completed in the well shaped 1.25m (3 to 4 feet) surf. Second round seeds from Indonesia, Australia and Japan were introduced in this unique duel sanctioned event and there were plenty of high scoring performances. Highlight surfers today were international pair Guimarãres Yan (Brazil) and Beyrick De Vries (South Africa). Both are highly rated surfers from their respective ASP Pro Junior circuits in their home countries and both saw the opportunity to surf outstanding waves in Bali and compete against many of the world's top Pro Junior surfers. "It's a great event for me to mix it with the international surfers" said Brazil's Yan who lives in Rio. "There's unbelievable surf everywhere here and to surf with just three others at Keramas is amazing." Durban's 17 year-old De Vries is presently number four on the ratings in South Africa and he put on a Jordy Smith inspired performance posting the day's top scoring single ride of a 9.1 along with the highest heat tally of the day of 16.75.. "Jordy is our man in surfing and we all look up to him so I suppose his win in J'Bay and the fact he is now number one in the world has us all lifting our surfing and proud to be South African " said De Vries. "The waves here are high performance, it's my favourite wave in the world and I just love the place -- it's ...
