Kershaw Scallion: Speed Zone

With many, the excellent Kershaw Scallion is a favorite lightweight EDC blade. Its 2.25 420 steel blade deploys quick (assisted opening) and locks up tight. Other upsides include good jimping (at least on some models), deep finger choil, thin 6061 aluminum scales, light 2.7 ounce carry weight, striking good looks, and a strong clip. Downsides include more difficulty in sharpening due to the sweeping lines of the blade, less slicing ability due to blade thickness, and a higher price than other in-category EDC blades. But it is lightweight in carry and provides us with yet another reason why a dude should never be without a knife. The Scallion possesses the two kinds of cool for sure but I am particularly fond of its collectibility. /////////////Nutnfancy Likeability Scale: 7 of 10 NOTE: Some get heated with my "gay" comments. Kershaw Oso Sweet knife: Daddy Like

Daddy like indeed. Give me a lightweight, high-value, well-made EDC blade that works well in role and I am a fan. Case in point: the Kershaw "O So Sweet" Model 1830 assisted opening knife. At just $22 it represents impressive value. Its charm begins with good design: lightweight (2.8 ounces), fast "SpeedSafe"® flipper opening, solid lockup, and good looks. The Zytel handle is innovative, featuring a cool web-pattern mold that is ergonomic and tractionable. The Oso Sweet feels good in hand and one can almost forgive the complete lack of jimping topside... almost. That's because in its POU of EDC blade, it probably won't be missed much. Add in a polished re-positionable high quality pocket clip and a nicely shaped, flat ground satin finished AUS6A blade to achieve a few extra points on the Nutnfancy Likability Scale. The Zytel handles are 410 stainless lined for strength and although no skeletonizing is present, the knife's weight is feathery. The blade shape is excellent and has good point and belly. Nope the AUS6A steel isn't one of my favorites and I do prefer others, but at this price point it is about on par with other competitors and will be satisfactory for most users. Kershaw puts down another winner in the EDC knife Octagon with the Oso Sweet. Well done. /////////////////////////// Nutnfancy LIkability Scale: 9 out of 10 (price considered) ///////// Music: www.partnersinrhyme.com

Kershaw LAHAR vs Emerson CQC-8 vs Spyderco Military

Three excellent tactical knives that can provide easy-to-carry backup security. In this episode I pit the newer LAHAR up against to tried and true tactical knife veterans. While all three can serve adequately in the role I do have a preference... can you guess which one?

Nutnfancy SHOT Show 2011: "Kershaw Win"

Kershaw's slamming one out of the park for 2011. Tons of great blades that I'm interested in are shown here in this 2011 Nutnfancy SHOT Show booth review with most excellent host Jenn and "anonymous girl to my left." TNP Crew member PFIDude and I cover some great steel here and have fun doing it. Most impressive are the quality levels and fair prices of these outstanding Kershaw knives. We were really wanting that Kershaw 7000 auto knife as well...will score one later for sure. It's a solid 10 (and it's been around awhile). Look to the tags below for some of the knives covered; some more in depth perhaps later. Great job Jenn and the Kershaw crew! //////////////////// Music: Licensed to TNP from www.torley.com

Kershaw NRG 1740: "Cutting Edge EDC" by Nutnfancy

This is an innovative and cool EDC knife. Made of Sandvik 13C26 steel, the blade is perfectly sized and shaped for EDC tasks. Blade deployment is fast and sure with a integral flipper design that operates smoothly and provides an authoritative deployment. The grey G10 scales on this model are well executed and provide a sure grip as does the jimping on the blade. The clip is kind of goofy and overly wide (and mounted too low on handle) but it is strong and functional. These G10 scales are handsome and comfortable however I would like to see them made thinner as well as some lightening holes in the liners to save a few micro ounces. Still at 2.2 oz this NRG is very pocketable and a breeze to carry. One downside is the goofy looking clip that does not allow deep enough carry, but I can live with it. The Kershaw NRG comes in two versions: this smaller one Mdl 1740 and the larger one Mdl 1745. I sold my 1745 as I felt it was too a bit too chunky and heavy for the price and I much prefer this smaller version for EDC. In fact it will rate as one of my favorite EDC choices. //////////////////////////// Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 9 out of 10

Kershaw Chill: "$16 Well Spent" by Nutnfancy

Kershaw's formula for high quality for less produces another great every day carry knife. The Kershaw Chill is a 2.0 oz very trim and easy to carry EDC blade. This RJ Martin design comes out fast with the tang flipper and this little liner lock locks up solidly. This liner lock should be strong enough for the POU given. The 3.13" blade is narrow in profile and offers a lean cutting profile. The tip achieves a rare combination of strength and "pointy-ness." However it does not arrive very sharp out of box and I would prefer to see a full flat grind on this one so as make a more gradual relief edge. Some work on ceramic rods helped but the blade's narrow width and its steeper approach to the hollow grind hampers its slice-ability somewhat. The Kershaw serrations on the combo edge version shown are excellent as usual. The 8Cr13Mov steel is a good high value choice, showing good edge holding and rust resistance at its price point. It sharpens easily too. The Chill features an elevated thumb ramp that begs to be jimped (and that's just what I did) for better control. The liners are skeletonized. This is a surprising feature at this price point and is responsible for the light 2.0 oz carry weight. Thin medium traction CNC-milled G10 scales adorn the frame, keeping the overall width of the Chill very trim. A Zytel back spacer fills the backside. Maintenance and cleaning can easily performed with the mini-Torx screws. Blade centering in the handle is excellent. It would be easy ...

This is Nik Kershaw`s song, The Riddle. I love this song! This is my first video! Lyrics: I've got two strong arms. Kershaw PackRat: "Ergonomic Speed" by Nutnfancy

A different name and unconventional looks might tempt the casual knife shopper to discount the Kershaw PackRat. That would be a mistake...it's one of the best EDC blades out there. The claims of ergonomics for the handle hold true; even without jimping (a glaring miss) the PackRat locks into the hand well. The blade shape is superb with excellent sweep and a piercing-capable edge. In this knife, I think the combo edge with Kershaws excellent and smooth cutting serrations is a great choice. The edge on the 14C28N steel arrives razor sharp, and like the other popular Kershaw Sandvik choice 13C26, it offers fine edge capabilities, good toughness, adequate edge holding, corrosion resistance, and ease of sharpening. The clip is somewhat organic but is strong and retains well and can be repositioned for tip up/tip down carry orientation. The medium textured G10 handle is well-designed and comfortable. Disassembly is possible with mini-Torx construction on this Zytel backspacer design that also features nicely skeletonized nested stainless liners. The lightening job accounts for the PRs reasonable 3.8 ounce carry weight. Most impressive might be the speed at which you can bring the PackRat into action with its assisted opening, back flipper actuation (possible but more difficult with thumbstud). . It's fast and fun and it locks up with tightness. The liner lock design is strong enough for the utility tasks and EDC roles this blade will most likely encounter. Blade centering in ...

Dodgers - Clayton Kershaw

Nick Garner of SportsTalk4Kids visited Dodgers Spring Training in Glendale, Arizona, and he spoke with Dodgers ace pitcher, Clayton Kershaw. Kershaw talked about how the Dodgers pitching staff stacks up against the Giants staff, what it's like to fulfill his dream of playing in the major leagues, and he gives advice to young players hoping to play in the big leagues. Nick picked up Dodger baseball tickets -- Dodgers vs. Indians -- at the Dodgers stadium, Camelback Ranch. Dodger baseball games are a great family activity, and if fans want cheap Dodger tickets to Dodgers games, they should check out the Dodger schedule and order tickets at www.dodgers.com. Kershaw Skyline: "EDC Hall of Famer" by Nutnfancy

The Kershaw Skyline is a homerun utility knife design from in-house Kershaw designer Tommy Lucs (watch vid on him). For its reasonable price it dominates many other EDC knife competitors: lightweight (just 2.4 oz!), fast deploying (has bronze phosphor bushings), no steel liners to ruin the carry weight, good clip (tip down preferred in this design after much experience!), upgraded Sadnvik 14C28N steel, excellent quality, ergonomic medium traction G10 handle, tight lockup, and finally a spear point blade shape that's useable. In fact its 3 1/8" (7.9 cm) bead blasted finished blade is surprisingly large for a knife of this weight. And yet it has high utility and slicing capability in its EDC POU. It also comes extremely sharp out of the box, thanks in part to its wider blade and deep hollow grind. Jimping on the top would be a welcome addition but isn't necessary in the EDC POU, especially with the deep finger choil below. It is a high value, well-designed, well-made, and cool daily cutting tool to have along. Kershaw OD Knives: "Addictive Speed" by Nutnfancy

Kicking your EDC into "Overdrive," the Kershaw OD-1 and OD-2 knives are ultra-fast daily carry knives. These are Lee Williams-designed blades that feature an innovative, disappearing actuation stud for deployment. It's fast, reliable, and fun. The larger OD-1 weighs 3.4 oz and has a 2 15/16" Sandvik 14C28N elegant drop point blade, somewhat reminiscent of the Kershaw Leek series but with thankfully more belly for utility tasks. The 14C28N is a good steel choice that takes a fine edge and sharpens easily. In some aggressive cardboard cutting and stabbing tests, I found the 14C28N steel to perform well, losing sharpness after about 15 long cuts but it sharpened easily thereafter. I did note some small rust spots developing on this OD1 blade in low moisture environments which puts me to wonder about its overall rust resistance. Keep it wiped down. The blade shape features a sharp tip (yes!), some belly, and has well executed hollow grinding that makes it an excellent slicer and emergency "surgical tool." The OD-1 framelock is technical looking and has a lockbar stabilzer to prevent your idiot friends from tweaking it out too far when the fondle the knife. When subject to spine whack tests, the OD-1 framelock did release and the knife developed looseness (but was restored to factory tightness thereafter). For a tactical blade this would be the kiss of death but for the EDC role this knife is intended for, it's not a showstopper. But it's an interesting data point to show that ...

Kershaw Tremor: "Big Blade Mojo" by Nutnfancy

For the money, the Kershaw Tremor provides massive value. With the 1950 you'll get a 3 ¾" 8Cr13Mov hollow ground blade that arrives wicked sharp. Using the flipper tang, the 1950 deploys fast with the torsion bar powered SpeedSafe® assist mechanism. It locks up solidly and is impressive in hand. The sweeping blade has a beautiful stonewashed finished, a nice change from Kershaw's normal bead blasting. That might add a bit more rust resistance to the otherwise excellent Chinese steel which seems to take a fine edge and hold it for awhile. The Tremor is also offered in a coarsely partially serrated model but this fine edged version is much more preferred. The blade tip is precise and sharp. Medium traction G10 makes up the somewhat rounded handle scales that offer adequate comfort. A Zytel backspacer is found on the spine. Blade centering on this example is a bit off but the in-handle retention is excellent. The clip is a favorite of mine: strong, blackened SS, and it is positionable to TU/TD carry (RH carry only). In pocket this large folding tactical knife carries fairly deep with just enough handle protruding to expose the lanyard. One downside is glaring: the Tremor cries out for jimping and top side traction overall is at a minimum. This can be remedied with the application of skateboard tape as shown which would allow the Tremor to be used in the tactical POU. With such a large and heavy blade (6.0 oz), EDC use for me is not preferred. The liners are as skeletonized ...
