"Nykelharpa" translates as "Key Fiddle" in English. It is part of the Musical Tradition of Uppland in Southern Sweden, from 1537, to modern times. In fact, this model of the "Key Fiddle" was reworked in the 1920s, from much simpler Models. Sorry.... Sean doesn't own a 1537 "Moraharpa" ! Practicing the key fiddle, March 16 2011. This instrument gives me so much joy. The bow movements are the hardest part to learn. You can see that I got the bow angle all wrong through the piece. I got a long way to go and I'm gonna run as fast as I can. There's really no artistic point in playing fast, though, it's just good to know you have it covered if the need arises. Have mercy on the nyckelharpa and all the cats in the house. Sarek and I are the only ones who enjoy it this far. The sound you hear is the key fiddle dry as a bone, no effects added whatsoever, recorded through the handycam microphone.

Göran Hallmarken and Bruno Andersén from Norsauga played with Erik Ask-Upmark from Dråm and Svanevit at Kvarnen (an old mill) at Korrö Folk music Festival at friday night 24 July 2009. Anna Rynefors (also from Dråm and Svanevit) was playing nyckelharpa (keyfiddle) on some tunes with her son Sam Ask-Upmark at her bosom. Here they play a tune they call "Fransosen". This great tune is a slängpolska from Västergötland that can be found on Dråm's album from 2005. From the left: Bruno Andersén (percussion), Göran Hallmarken (hurdy-gurdy), and Erik Ask-Upmark (bagpipes). Sadly it was quite dark in there.

The photos are set to a touching song written by Swedish folk musician Åsa Jinder and Anders Skogh. Åsa Jinder is also playing an instrument called (Swedish) keyfiddle on this song. Finn Kalvik is singing, he is a well known singer-songwriter from Norway and has worked with the former ABBA members among others. He also competed in the ESC for Norway in 1979. Stefan Nilsson is playing piano ; Georg Riedel bass.
