Kilauea Volcano Erupts - Dramatic Video

Kilauea is the youngest and southeastern most volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii. Topographically Kilauea appears as only a bulge on the southeastern flank of Mauna Loa, and so for many years Kilauea was thought to be a mere satellite of its giant neighbor, not a separate volcano. However, research over the past few decades shows clearly that Kilauea has its own magma-plumbing system, extending to the surface from more than 60 km deep in the earth. Hawaiian Meaning The Hawaiian name "Kilauea" means "spewing" or "much spreading," apparently in reference to the lava flows that it erupts. Eruptions have been Continuous since January 3, 1983. It is estimated that the first eruption of Kilauea has between 300000 and 600000 years ago.

Aerial video of Kilauea Volcano eruption in Hawaii

One of the world's most active volcanoes in Hawaii sent plumes of smoke and and shot lava up to 65 feet (19 metres) high into the air on Sunday. Scientists said a new vent had opened at the Pu'u O'o crater which caused lava to spray into the air. It occurred along the middle of Kilauea Volcano's east rift zone. Kilauea has been in constant eruption since January 3, 1983. No homes are under threat. RT on Facebook: www.facebook.com RT on Twitter: twitter.com

Hawaii volcano eruption: Stunning aerial video of Kilauea lava rivers

Follow us on twitter.com and www.facebook.com Scientists say a new lava flow has broken out at Kilauea, a volcano in Hawaii that has been continuously erupting for nearly three decades. The lava flow is entirely within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and currently poses no hazard to residents. The location was less than half a mile (from the Kamoamoa fissure that erupted in March. Volcanologist Janet Babb said it was the first time lava has broken out at the volcano since March, aside from some that spilled out at the Puu Oo crater last week. The lava is moving down Kilauea's south flank. Kilauea is one of the world's most active volcanoes. It has been constantly erupting since 2 January 1983.

Part beauty, part beast - Hawaii's Kilauea volcano

Nov. 29 - Volcanic eruptions in Ecuador and the Democratic Republic of the Congo have been attracting scientists, tourists and headlines this week, but for residents of the so-called "big island" of Hawaii, volcanic eruptions are part of every day life. The Kilauea volcano has been erupting continuously since 1983, inspiring awe and occasional fear among those who live in its shadow. Rob Muir reports.

Kilauea Pest Control | Honolulu, Hawaii | Bed Bugs

Bedbugs are a growing concern for many commercial enterprises and homeowners. Due to the discontinued use of some pesticides and more frequent travel to 3rd world countries, bedbugs have made a big comeback here in Hawaii. Bedbugs feed off humans like fleas feed on cats. Although they are not vectors of disease, they can cause skin irritation and can quickly produce an unappealing environment. Although Waikiki has traditionally been a bedbug hotspot, we have found cases in homes from Hawaii Kai to Pupukea. Bedbugs are so invasive, that they take much more thorough treatment than most pests. Many exterminators won't even deal with them because they're so hard to control. A big part of control has to do with catching the infestation early. Bedbugs generally will be introduced into a structure through luggage, used furniture, or from storing or moving your belongings in an infested truck or container. If you think you may have bedbugs, call us today at 236-2847. We offer the best Oahu pest control services. www.kilaueapest.com

Puu Oo Lava Flow Aerials - Mount Kilauea, Hawaii - August 4, 2011

"Bright ribbons of lava broke out at the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii on Wednesday. The lava emanated from the base of the Pu'u 'O'o cone's west flank, and is the first lava flow since the break out at the nearby Kamoamoa fissure in March of this year. The lava flow remains within the boundaries of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. Although some roads have been closed, the lava poses no danger to residents. Kilauea, which has been erupting since 1983, is one of the world's most active volcanoes."

150 earthquakes strike crater in 24 hour period. Kilauea has been active since 1983 where activity has been ongoing. The volcano is shooting lava 65ft into the sky after the crater floor collapsed creating new fissures which magma is seeping from. - Hawaii - Hawaii (Listeni /həˈwaɪ.iː/ or /həˈwaɪʔiː/ in English; Hawaiian: Mokuʻāina o Hawaiʻi) is the newest of the 50 US states (August 21, 1959), and is the only US state made up entirely of islands. It occupies most of an archipelago in the central Pacific Ocean, southwest of the continental United States, southeast of Japan, and northeast of Australia. Hawaii's natural beauty, warm tropical climate, inviting waters and waves, and active volcanoes make it a popular destination for tourists, surfers, biologists, and volcanologists alike. Due to its mid-Pacific location, Hawaii has many North American and Asian influences along with its own vibrant native culture. Hawaii has over a million permanent residents along with many visitors and US military personnel. Its capital is Honolulu on the island of Oʻahu. The state encompasses nearly the entire volcanic Hawaiian Island chain, which comprises hundreds of islands spread over 1500 miles (2400 km). At the southeastern end of the archipelago, the eight "main islands" are (from the northwest to southeast) Niʻihau, Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, Kahoʻolawe, Maui, and Hawaiʻi. Kilauea Iki Trail, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Perhaps the finest short day hike in the park, a four-mile, 2-3 hour trip down into, across and back out of Kilauea Iki Crater gives one an intimate feel for volcanoes, Hawaiian-Style. Crossing the crater floor on this surface provides one of the most interesting hikes in the Park. Looking up from the bottom of the crater, one can see the distinctive ring around the crater marking the high point of the lava lake during the last eruption. The four mile loop-hike descends from the rim in two places and crosses the crater floor in about three hours hiking at a nominal pace. Along one side, thick fern and ohia forest skirts along the rim and on the other, lush tropical rainforest crowds to the very brink of the crater; bleak volcanic desert lines the crater walls and covers the floor. The start and finish of the hike are along well marked, wide trails following the rim with handrails and stairs in some spots as you begin to descend into the crater. The remainder is an easily followed, well marked trail with stone ahu (cairns) over the crater floor. Recent bore-hole measurements indicate that roiling molten lava is lying beneath the skin of the caldera only 230 feet beneath your hiking boots. Keep your eyes open for Peles Hair and Peles Tears (fine, thread-like and bead-like deposits of volcanic glass), gaseous vents and other marvels of the living lava mountain. This hike requires you to take plenty of water, rain gear, suncream, a map and compass, to wear sturdy hiking shoes ...

kilauea Lava Flow April 29, 2010

The surface flows nearing the ocean continue to gain strength due to an increase in the supply of lava from the source on the East Rift Zone of Kilauea. On this date in the early morning it advanced to within 250 feet of the ocean and may reach it within hours if the supply is not interrupted. The first three clips in this video show a flow of lava break out from the developing tube about 1/4 mile from the ocean and burning the trees and vegetation in the area. In the last two clips, lava is shown cascading down the old sea cliff and onto a bench which formed about 20 years ago. Daniel Ho is a 5 time Grammy Award winning musician. Born in Kaimuki on Oahu, he attended the Grove School of Music in Los Angeles, where he studied composition before returning home to attend the University of Hawaii.[1] After graduation, Daniel returned to Los Angeles and formed a critically-acclaimed smooth jazz group named Kilauea. In the late 90s, Daniel started his own record company, Daniel Ho Creations (DHC), and recorded one of his first Hawaiian music albums with slack-key guitarist George Kahumoku, Jr.. He has since recorded 18 solo albums, produced over 50 albums, served as a guest lecturer at Stanford University, performed as a soloist with the Honolulu Symphony, and received four Grammy Awards for best Hawaiian music album as a producer. In 2009, he won his first Grammy Award for best Hawaiian music album as an artist rather than as the producer of a compilation album, teaming up with Tia Carrere for the album 'Ikena. The DHC label has also received three Grammy nominations for Hawaiiana, He Nani, and Spirit of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar, three Na Hoku Awards and several nominations, including the 2009 release Aloha Pumehana by Darlene Ahuna . In 2008 he appeared in and recorded several tracks for the film Forgetting Sarah Marshall, under the pseudonym The Coconutz. He sang on two tracks that are remakes of 20th century pop hits, translated into Hawaiian. They are "Nothing Compares 2 U", and "Everybody Hurts
