Dr. Tobras, along with his colleague George Noulas, are the originators of a monumental lawsuit filed on April 09, 2010, approximately one year ago. The lawsuit alleges that foreign speculators, specifically primary syndicators of Greek loans, working alongside domestic enablers within the Greek government and within the Central Bank of Greece, facilitated the manipulation of the Greek bond market for their personal financial gain. This manipulation also had the demonstrable effect of pushing the nation of Greece into the arms of the IMF and EFSF on extremely draconian terms. I have personally heard Dr. Kiriakos talk about this case on two separate occasions, but had never spoken to him prior to this interview. Greece has voted on a second bill in the final step towards implementing the next wave of austerity measures. Its the last hurdle that Athens has to jump to qualify for a new stack of European bailout funds. The plan's met heavy public resistance with two days of rioting that's left more than 300 people injured. Activist Kiriakos Tobras in Syntagma square says Greeks simply don't want to pay for the mistakes of banks and politicians.

International debt inspectors are having trouble visiting key ministries in Greece - because angry workers are occupying them in their latest anti-austerity protest. The delegation are in Athens to decide whether Greece is fit enough for another portion of bailout - the government's last chance to evade a collapse later this month. The decision was suspended earlier, over doubts that the country is doing enough to reduce its enormous debt. Leaders have pushed through pension cuts and extra taxes to try and please their creditors, but the public remains convinced that the relentless austerity policy is only making things worse.
