In this report, researcher and government advisor Takehiko Yamamura insists a disaster is just around the corner for Japan. "We can expect an earthquake like this every five years...it's only a matter of time...". After Kobe was reduced to rubble in less than 20 seconds in 1995, the nation stepped up its earthquake technology. Urban planners in Tokyo have confidence in their latest shock-absorbing equipment; "For the first time people should not have to flee from their homes, but can feel safe inside them". Yet Yamamura argues that the biggest problem is the attitude of the Japanese; "people still believe in the myth of their own invulnerability. We must constantly be on guard". 'Linkerbaan', is een korte film gebaseerd op de jeugd van rapper RBDJAN. De korte film is geschreven en geproduceerd is door mensen die daadwerkelijk midden in het straatleven hebben gestaan, en, ook niet geheel onbelangrijk, door jonge mensen met een frisse en vooral reële blik op het straatleven anno nu. In Nederland leeft een traditie van ridiculiseren en overdrijven. Vandaar dat RBDJAN & Opslaan Als het van groot belang vonden om 'Linkerbaan' te maken; een harde en oprechte afspiegeling van wat er kan gebeuren als je je laat verleiden door het snelle geld op straat. RBDJAN zegt dan ook het volgende: "Linkerbaan gaat over een periode uit mijn leven waarin ik dealde. Ik wil niets verheerlijken. TIKA - For Better Or For Worse
We just returned from Los Angeles shooting a documentary/ music video for Dutch indie band 'TIKA'. We battled the crazy heat that kept this city in a ferm grip, and followed actor Carel Struycken (The Adams Family, Star Trek, Het Paard van Sinterklaas) on his voyage from 'the best that civilisation has to offer' to the wildest of nature, in the middle of Californian deserts, mountain ranges and lakes. FOR BETTER OR FOR WORSE is a documentary disguised as a music video. It's a short documentary that is made as a music video for the Dutch indie band Tika, a combination of Moss and El Pino. The film explores the increasing unease that many feel with modern society. We show this feeling through the eyes of 'giant' Carel Struycken, who rose to fame by playing iconic freaks in pop culture, like Lurch in the Adams Family and Mr. Homn in Star Trek. The 63 year old actor has sharp observations on the way we live our lives and how we perceive one another.

Brain, bodily awareness, and the emergence of a conscious self: these entities and their relations are explored by Germanphilosopher and cognitive scientist Metzinger. Extensively working with neuroscientists he has come to the conclusion that, in fact, there is no such thing as a "self" -- that a "self" is simply the content of a model created by our brain - part of a virtual reality we create for ourselves. But if the self is not "real," he asks, why and how did it evolve? How does the brain construct the self? In a series of fascinating virtual reality experiments, Metzinger and his colleagues have attempted to create so-called "out-of-body experiences" in the lab, in order to explore these questions. As a philosopher, he offers a discussion of many of the latest results in robotics, neuroscience, dream and meditation research, and argues that the brain is much more powerful than we have ever imagined. He shows us, for example, that we now have the first machines that have developed an inner image of their own body -- and actually use this model to create intelligent behavior. In addition, studies exploring the connections between phantom limbs and the brain have shown us that even people born without arms or legs sometimes experience a sensation that they do in fact have limbs that are not there. Experiments like the "rubber-hand illusion" demonstrate how we can experience a fake hand as part of our self and even feel a sensation of touch on the phantom hand form the <b>...</b>
