Kris Kristofferson - Watch closely now (soundtrack - A star is born, 1976)

Fair use - no copyright infringement intended. Wow! Our Kris could have been a hot rock musician, too, couldn't he?? :-) Well, I know SME claims copyrights even before the upload will have been finished, but this time... "Your video may include the following copyrighted content: Barbra Streisand-Watch Closely Now", sound recording administered by: SME" OK, it's a Warner Bros Entertainment movie, and the soundtrack CD is SME stuff - so far it's correct, but come on, SME, it's not Barbra who's singing here, or is it her??? So, PLEASE, there should be Kris' YT songs with the "artist" ad instead of Barbra's... I'm really happy about my software that enabled me to make the album song lips synchronous with the performance in the movie, because again the song was not as fast on the album as it was in the movie ... It's not Kris' song as all the other songs in the movie aren't (unfortunately - I think he has some great songs on his Surreal thing album that really could have been to the movie soundtrack...) The song was written by Paul Williams and Kenny Ascher Watch closely now You'll observe a curious exchange of energy Are you a figment of my imagination Or I one of yours? Watch closely now - are you watching me now? Your eyes are like fingers They're touching my body and arousing my soul Ridin' the passion arisin' inside me How high can I go? You're comin' with me girl I'm gonna show you how When it's scary, don't look down Watch closely now - are you watching me now? I see ...

Kris Kristofferson - Good Morning John

to Johnny Cash. Kristofferson originally wrote this song about Johnny Cash's struggles with addiction for a sobriety party in the 1970s. He explained to Billboard magazine: "Everyone was supposed to say something inspirational, so I wrote a song. I tried to record this once before with Willie Nelson and my band. When I sang the chorus, they echoed me when I would sing 'Good morning John.' When I got to the line that said 'I love you John,' Willie said 'He loves you John' and we all cracked up laughing. We never finished it, so I finished it myself." Recorded in "Closer To The Bone" (2009).

Kris Kristofferson & Rita Coolidge - Please don't tell me how the story ends (1978)

They'd sing so real nice harmony together, it sounds so amazingly beautiful ... This song is just perfect - the tune, the lyrics, the harmonies ... awesome ... How can one dislike it?? ... this is from Johnny Cash's Christmas Show 1978 Though maybe my favourite version of this song is the one from the album "The Austin Sessions" (1999). This little piece of Mark Knopfler was the perfect choice for this song... But it's impossible to upload any song from this marvelous album just to show it to the ones who don't know it yet. Each of these 12 classic songs of Kris is so incredibly beautifully arranged ... It's a shame that this CD is rare in the stores, but luckily one can buy it on the internet... www.amazon.com And I really love Kris' demo version from (ca) 1970 which is also among my uploads www.youtube.com Please don't tell me how the story ends (1970) This could be our last good night together We may never pass this way again. Just let me enjoy it 'til it's over, or forever Please don't tell me how the story ends. See the way our shadows come together Softer than your fingers on my skin Someday these may be all we remember of each other Please don't tell me how the story ends. Never's just the echo of forever Lonesome as a love that might have been. Let me go on lovin' and believin' 'til it's over Please don't tell me how the story ends.

Kris Kristofferson - Hellacious acres (A star is born, 1976)

scene from "A star is born" (1976) "Admission's free, you pay to get out..." Nasty and mean... but maybe telling the truth??... Love the song though. And I'm happy to know that Kris would never treat his own audience this way :-) He says "Thank you!" after EVERY song instead. And I'm happy that he quit drinking after this movie. Probably that saved his life. Hellacious Acres (Kenneth Lee Ascher/ Paul H. Williams) Look who's advertising Billboards everywhere "see hellacious acres Your tailor made nightmare" Traffic is backed up for miles Attendants welcome you with devilish smiles Steady ... steady ... Kris Kristofferson - "The Law Is For Protection Of The People"

I briefly met Kris Kristofferson in 1983 after being the emcee on his show at the Louisville Palace Theatre in Louisville, Kentucky while working for Majic 100-FM. Despite having Back Stage credentials I met him at an after-concert party where he made a brief appearance before departing. I was told by his Road Manager he would not talk to the press, sign autographs or pose for photos. When I asked why he would not speak to the press I was told he was tired of answering questions about his well publicized break-up with Rita Coolidge. This song, "The Law Is For Protection Of The People" was considered by many as an afterthought on his landmark LP "Kristofferson", released in 1970, because the LP featured his first recordings of such classic tunes as "Me And Bobby McGee", "Help Me Make It Through The Night", "For the Good Times", "Darby's Castle" and the legendary "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down". Back in '70 I would occasionally perform at small gatherings and "Law" was in my repertoire. It was a great protest song for the times and had a surprise ending. I hope you enjoy the video, my story that goes with it, and will share the link with others.

In 1988 he initiated contact with Brian Willson, a peace activist and dissident who had lost both legs during a protest in Concord, CA the previous year by putting himself in the path of a train carrying military weapons bound for Central America. The Highwaymen (Kris Kristofferson)Here Comes That Rainbow Again.

Here Comes That Rainbow Again written Kris Kristofferson. The scene was a small roadside cafe, The waitress was sweeping the floor. Two truck drivers drinking their coffee. And two Okie kids by the door. "How much are them candies?" they asked her. "How much have you got?" she replied. "We've only a penny between us." "Them's two for a penny," she lied. And the daylight grew heavy with thunder, With the smell of the rain on the wind. Ain't it just like a human. Here comes that rainbow again. One truck driver called to the waitress, After the kids went outside. "Them candies ain't two for a penny." "So what's it to you?" she replied. In silence they finished their coffee, And got up and nodded goodbye. She called: "Hey, you left too much money!" "So what's it to you?" they replied. And the daylight was heavy with thunder, With the smell of the rain on the wind. Ain't it just like a human. Here comes that rainbow again.

Fair use - no copyright infringement intended. From Kris' debut album "Kristofferson" (1970) www.amazon.com www.amazon.de www.amazon.co.uk No-one else has ever sung this song with so much sadness and despair in his voice... Kris said in an interview, "This song probably was the most directly autobiographical thing I had written. In those days I was living in a slum tenement that was torn down afterwards, but it was 25 dollars a month in a condemned building, and "Sunday Morning Coming Down" was more or less looking around me and writing about what I was doing. One time, some people broke into that place, and I had to call the police station to answer some questions about it, and the guy said, "Yeah, they really trashed the place when they went in there." But I hadn't noticed that it was any different. There were holes in the wall bigger than I was. It was quite a place, so "Sunday Morning Coming Down" is kind of more or less what I was living at that time. I guess it was depressing, I don't know, but the chorus was kind of uplifting. ... What I was really trying to do was to keep the feeling of loss and of sadness. For me at that time, it was the loss of my family and looking at a little kid swinging on a swing and his daddy pushing him. That was the feeling I wanted to get for the whole song. I think Sunday was the choice because the bars were closed in the morning and nobody was at work, so if you were alone, it was the most alone time..." Sunday Morning coming down ...

Kris Kristofferson - Why Me Lord

"Why Me" is an American county and gospel song written and recorded by Kris Kristofferson. "Why Me" was Kristofferson's lone major country hit as a solo recording artist, reaching No. 1 of Billboard Magazine's hot country singles chart in July 1973. The song, despite peaking only at No. 16 of the Billboard Hot 100, had one of the longer runs (19 weeks) in the Top 40 at that time. As a result, the song managed to be ranked as the sixth most popular Hot 100 single of 1973. Elvis Presley incorporated the song, titled as "Why Me Lord", into his live shows beginning in January 1974 up until his last concert tour. It was first released on the live album, Elvis Recorded Live On Stage In Memphis in June 1974. Johnnny Cash also recorded a version of the song in one of his 1970s albums. Christian Country music, sometimes referred to as country gospel music, is a subgenre of gospel music with a country flair, is also known as inspirational country. Christian country over the years has progressed into a mainstream country sound with inspirational or positive country lyrics Note: Gospel music is written to express either personal, spiritual or a communal belief regarding Christian life. Although I believe in God and His son, Jesus, the tenet conveyed in this song is not in complete accord with my own personal views.

PLEASE NOTE: I divided my uploads between multiple channels, Bookmark this link in your browser for instant access to an index with links to all of John1948's oldies classics. LINK: tinyurl.com Born on June 22, 1936 in Brownsville, Texas. Son of a military officer, Kristofferson was equal parts intellectual and athlete growing up. He was an award-winning short story writer as well as a Golden Gloves boxer. He graduated from Pomona College in 1958 with a degree in creative writing and went on to attend Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. While in England, he performed under the name Kris Carson, playing country and folk music. After leaving Oxford, Kristofferson joined the United States Army in 1960. He served as a helicopter pilot in Germany. He turned down a teaching position at West Point to pursue his dream of becoming a successful songwriter. Moving to Nashville in 1965, he struggled and took odd jobs to cover the bills, including one working as a janitor at Columbia Records. His first big break came from Roger Miller who recorded Kristofferson's song "Me and Bobby McGee." (This same song was later a rock hit for Janis Joplin in 1971.) The next country star to fall for Kristofferson's music was Johnny Cash. Cash took Kristofferson's song "Sunday Morning Coming Down" and helped make it a big hit. The song was popular with country fans and critics alike, winning the Country Music Association's song of the year award in 1970. Along with writing successful songs for ...

"Me and Bobby McGee" is a song that was covered multiple times with various levels of commercial success. Roger Miller was the first artist to have a hit with the song, peaking with it at No. 12 on the US country chart in 1969. Gordon Lightfoot's version hit No. 13 on the pop chart and No. 1 country in his native Canada in 1970. Lightfoot sang the song after a detailed tribute to Kris Kristofferson in a CBC broadcast from the summer 1969 Charlottetown Festival. In his introduction, Lightfoot referred to the Miller version and said he intended to record it himself "the way it should be done." In a 2008 autobiography, Don Reid and Harold Reid of the Statler Brothers say Kristofferson promised it to them, but when they later inquired about recording it, they learned Miller had already cut the song.
