Part 1 of 5 Discovery History documentary series "Killer Tanks: KV" is about the World War II Soviet made KV (Kliment Voroshilov) tank, its development, implantation and legacy. The Kliment Voroshilov (KV) tanks were a series of Soviet heavy tanks, named after the Soviet defense commissar and politician Kliment Voroshilov. The KV series were known for their extremely heavy armour protection during the early war, especially during the first year of the invasion of the Soviet Union in World War II. Almost completely immune to the 7.5 cm KwK 37 and 3.7 cm KwK 36 guns mounted on the early Panzer III and Panzer IV tanks, until better guns were developed often the only way to defeat a KV was a point-blank shot to the rear. Prior to the invasion, about 500 of the over 22000 tanks in Soviet service at the time were of the KV-1 type. When the KV-1 appeared, it outclassed the French Char B1, the only heavy tank used in the world at that time. Yet in the end it turned out that there was little sense in producing the expensive KV tanks, as the T-34 medium tank performed better (or at least equally) in all practical respects. Emil Grigoryevich Gilels (Ukrainian: Емі́ль Григо́рович Гі́лельс, Russian: Эми́ль Григо́рьевич Ги́лельс, Emi'li Grego'rievič Gi'lelis; October 19, 1916 October 14, 1985) was a Soviet pianist, widely considered to be one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century. His last name is sometimes transliterated Hilels. Gilels was born in Odessa (now part of Ukraine). He began studying the piano at the age of five[3] under Yakov Tkach, who was a student of the French pianists Raoul Pugno[4] and Alexander Villoing[3] Thus, through Tkach, Gilels had a pedagogical genealogy stretching back to Chopin, via Pugno, and to Muzio Clementi, via Villoing. Tkach was a stern disciplinarian who emphasized scales and studies. Gilels later credited this strict training for establishing the foundation of his technique.[3] Gilels made his public debut at the age of 12 in June 1929 with a well-received program of Beethoven, Scarlatti, Chopin, and Schumann.[3] In 1930, Gilels entered the Odessa Conservatory where he was coached by Berta Reingbald, whom Gilels credited as a formative influence. Named after the Soviet defense commissar Kliment Voroshilov, testing of the KV along with 3 multi-turreted tanks the T-35, T-100, and the SMK began in September 1939. These tanks were soon battlefield tested during the "Winter War" from December the same year. Battlefield experience revealed the SMK and T-100's poor mobility, while the KV's good performance led to its adoption as the Soviet Army's next generation heavy tank. After the success of the 1/16 R/C Russian KV-1 tank, Tamiya has released a second Russian Tank, the 1/16 R/C KV-2. In November 1940, mass production of the KV-2 began. The KV-2 tank was part of a series of Soviet tanks named after defense commissar Kilment Voroshilov. The large stature of the KV-2 was needed to house its 3.25m large turret, 24-caliber 1938/40 152mm M-10 howitzer and ammunition. This tank could hold 36 shells of various types of ammunition, including a special armor-piercing shell to attack concrete pillboxes. On June 24th, 1941 the KV tanks faced the German 6th Panzer Division in Lithuania. The massive size of the KV and 75mm thick armor was difficult for the German force to penetrate. German soldiers called the KV tanks "Ungeheuer{" (monster) and "Gigant" (giant) because of their enormous size.

Piano Concerto No. 1 in F major (KV 37) was completed in April of 1767, when Mozart was 11 years old. this concerto is a "pasticcio" arrangement for piano and orchestra by Mozart and his dad, based on works by other composers. But it is fun, light and pleasureable early Mozart. Hermann Friedrich Raupach published a sonata for keyboard and violin in 1756, and that was the basis of this first movement.
