Attack on Leningrad - movie trailer 2009 (Gabriel Byrne)

This is an official movie trailer! I don't owe anything. All rights reserved to: leningradfilm.com "Leningrad"(2009) is a World War II epic that tracks the heroics and sacrifices of a young British journalist, Kate Davis (Mira Sorvino), during the Nazi siege of Leningrad in the winter of 1941.In the midst of this horrific siege, she becomes isolated within the famished city and separated from her lover, an American journalist named Philip Parker (Gabriel Byrne). Kate is able to befriend Nina Tsvetkova (Olga Sutulova), a Leningrad militia woman, and two Russian children. She stays with them, and together they fight for their lives, surrounded by death, starvation, and the bullets of war. This epic story is inspired by true events. The siege of Leningrad was one of the longest and most destructive sieges in history. It lasted 872 days.

Massive track which never really had the airplay it deserved. By far the best track on 'Storm Front' I think, yet the radio DJs hardly played it. A great reflection of the suffering of the Russian people during World War Two.. Please rate generously and share with friends - and others.. Tony :-)

Leningrad Cowboys & Red Army Choir - SWEET HOME ALABAMA

The Leningrad Cowboys is a Finnish rock and roll band famous for its humorous songs and concerts featuring the Soviet Red Army Choir. Currently, the band has eleven Cowboys and two Leningrad Ladies. The songs, all somewhat influenced by polka and progressive rock, and performed in English, have themes such as 'vodka', 'tractors', 'rockets', and 'Genghis Khan', as well as folkloric Russian songs, rock and roll ballads and covers from bands as diverse as The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Lynyrd Skynyrd, all with lots of humour. ----------------------------------- TheRed Army Choir (Choir Aleksandrov) is a performing ensemble that served as the official army choir of the former Soviet Union's Red Army. The choir consists of a male choir, an orchestra, and a dance ensemble. The songs they perform range from Russian folk tunes to Church hymns, operatic arias and popular music. In 1991, The Red Army Choir participated in Roger Waters' The Wall concert celebrating the fall of the Berlin Wall. They performed an anti-war song "Bring the Boys Back Home". Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Red Army Choir has continued performing, entertaining audiences both inside and outside Russia.

The event drew a crowd of approximately 70000 people from two nations - Finland and Russia - that had been engaged in a state of "peaceful coexistence" during the Cold War. The concert featured an eclectic mix of Western rock and Russian folk music, including a balalaika rendition of "Stairway to Heaven", and folk dancers performing to rock songs. ======================================== The Leningrad Cowboys is a Finnish rock and roll band famous for it's humorous songs and concerts featuring the Soviet Red Army Choir. Everything Is Illuminated Soundtrack-Dikiy Muzhchina-Leningrad

Leningrad (Russian: Ленинград) was a Russian ska punk band from Saint Petersburg (formerly Leningrad). They disbanded in late 2008. Composed of 14 members, the band appeared in the late 1990s around singer Sergey "Shnur" Shnurov. It soon became famous for its vulgar lyrics containing Russian mat, the main reason it was avoided by most radio stations at first. But this did not stop its growing popularity. As Shnurov said himself: "Our songs are just about the good sides of life, vodka and girls that is." The band is known to be disliked by Moscow mayor Yuri Mikhailovich Luzhkov, who cancelled many of their concerts in the city. But since then, the band has made its way to radio and TV (filler noises covering the rude words, certain songs containing many of these filler noises), with Shnurov even presenting some New Year's Eve TV shows. Leningrad has gained some popularity in other parts of the world. Partially due to a well known Adobe Flash animation, created by Toondra animation studio, set to their song "Menya Zovut Shnur" (Russian: «Меня зовут Шнур») or "My Name is Shnur" in English. Three songs by Leningrad appeared prominently on the soundtrack to the 2005 movie Everything Is Illuminated. The Leningrad song "Nikogo ne zhalko" is one of the songs used in the video game Grand Theft Auto IV, appearing on the set list for a mock Russian-themed radio station in the game called Vladivostok FM. (4/10) Battlefield II Leningrad Ep6 World War II

WORLD WAR II - SUBSCRIBE TO EXCELLENT WORLD WAR II VIDEOS The Siege of Leningrad September 8, 1941 - January 27, 1944 For centuries the cultural heart of Russia and the second largest city in the Soviet Union, Leningrad was a prime target of the advancing German Army Group North in June 1941. One of the stated reasons for the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939-1940 was to protect the former Czarist capital, St. Petersburg, later called Leningrad, from Finnish attack. When the Germans invaded, they called on the Finns to attack Leningrad from the north. On the shore of Lake Ladoga, Leningrad had political significance as the city named for the founder of the Russian Revolution, but it also had military significance as it prevented the Germans from sweeping around the north of Russia and attacking Moscow from behind. The population of Leningrad turned out shortly after the invasion and dug antitank ditches around the city. Two hundred thousand Red Army defenders protected 3000000 inhabitants. Within weeks of crossing the border, the Germans cut the Leningrad-Moscow railway and the Germans advanced on the city. The attack failed and the Nazi Generals appealed to Hitler to start a siege, so panzer units badly needed elsewhere could be released. Hitler readily agreed on September 29, 1941. Furthermore, he ordered that the city be reduced so that the Germans would not have to feed its population. Relentless shelling and air raids began and lasted for the next 872 days. FW190 found in forest clearing - Outside of Leningrad

Information from researchers involved with the restoration confirms that the pilot of the Fw190, Paul Rätz, was a POW and repatriated to Germany in 1949. He passed away in 1989 and his son aided in the research for the restoration. Paul Rätz was a ground crew member before becoming a pilot with 1./JG54 in 1942 and 1943. He had several air victories and survived three crash landings. He was best known as a ground attack pilot and transferred to to 4./JG54 on July 9, 1943. Ten days later on July 19 he crashed with this plane during a mission to attack a train. "Fw190 A5 White A of 4./JG54 This Focke-wulf 190 was manufactured in April 1943, originally as an A-5 variant and supplied with the full work number 0151227 by the parent factory of Focke-Wulf Flugzeugbau GmbH at Bremen. Taking off from Siwerskaja, on what was probably a hot summer day, 'White A' headed for the Front line which was only fifteen or so minutes flight time away. Crossing the front line over the Dvina River, the Fw190, flying with another crossed it and headed East. Whilst behind enemy lines, in an area called Voibakala, the 'Rotte' attacked an armoured train and reportedly suffered damage from flak. The loss report indicates the Fw190 crash landed due to this damage, although none was located on the airframe. It Fw190 suffered a catastrophic failure of the BMW801, caused ...

Stalin and The Betrayal of Leningrad part 1/5

Part 1/5 Stalin was always suspicious of Russia's former capital. Its huge cultural, scientific and economic importance, its historical role as the cradle of the 1917 Revolution, its pre-eminent position in the history of the Russian intelligentsia - all produced a dangerous spirit of independence when viewed from the Kremlin. From 1918 to 1926, moreover, it was the power base of Grigorii Zinoviev, one of Stalin's main rivals to succeed Lenin. After Zinoviev's downfall Stalin installed Sergei Kirov as first secretary of the Leningrad party, and Trotsky's and Zinoviev's followers were ruthlessly purged. Though a loyal Stalinist, Kirov may well also, in turn, have come to be seen as a threat. A popular figure and - unlike Stalin - a Russian, by the early 1930s he was certainly seen by some in the Party as preferable to Stalin as leader. His assassination in December 1934 has often been attributed to Stalin, though official investigations under Khrushchev, Gorbachev and Yeltsin failed to unearth conclusive evidence of this. What is certain is that Stalin seized the opportunity presented by Kirov's death to purge Leningrad of former oppositionists and members of the old ruling and professional classes - and also to appoint one of the rising generation of Stalinist cadres, Andrei Zhdanov, as ruler of the USSR's second city.
