March 11, 1921 - July 4, 1992) Maestro Piazolla was an Argentine tango composer and bandoneón player. He revolutionized the traditional tango into a new style termed "Nuevo Tango" incorporating elements from Jazz and Classical Music. Astor studied classical music, including 17th and 18th Century Baroque, and Fugue which influenced what is termed "passacaglia" technique of circulating bass line and harmonic sequence, as well as incorporating jazz changes, counterpoint, and improvisation throughout. From a young age, he was influenced by the renowned Carlos Gardel. It is estimated that Astor Piazolla wrote about 3000 pieces, 500 of which were recorded... Libertango and Adiós Nonino (dedicated to his father) are two of his best known works. The title is a portmanteau merging "Libertad" (Spanish for liberty) and "Tango", symbolizing Piazzolla's break from Classical Tango to Tango Nuevo.[1] Grace Jones's song I've Seen That Face Before (Libertango) uses the same music, as does Jazz Mandolin Project's song "Jungle Tango", Guy Marchand's song "Moi je suis tango" and Kati Kovács's song Hívlak. In 2002, a re-recording of Libertango appeared on Australian classical crossover string quartet Bond second album "Shine". Contemporary music artist NUBIM did a wonderful remake of Libertango. For this remake, NUBIM wanted to make a change not for the rhythm or harmony only, but for making "a completely different-flavored Libertango" and she made a great job at last. The new 'Libertango' is wearing a new kind of beautiful clothes. After the live recording of "the extremely romantic Libertango", NUBIM wanted to use black and white photographs of European cities and landscape. One fine day, NUBIM found perfect pictures on a website that were taken by an Italian photographer, Umberto Verdoliva. His photography was so wonderful, but she had no idea if the photographer would allow her to use his works. But unbelievably, the photographer wrote to her asking the collaboration in three days after she saw the website. He came across NUBIM' s music on the internet and he was so fascinated by that. NUBIM could not believe it was just a coincidence. Anyway, both of them started to make a collaboration between music and photography and finally so great work came to the world.
