Libyan violence spreads to Tripoli

Violent clashes reportedly broke out late Sunday in Tripoli's central Green Square. In a televised address just a few hours ago, Saif El Islam Gadaffi said his father would stand firm, and the country could plunge into civil war if the protests don't stop. He said foreign media, Islamists, even drug addicts were part of a plot to bring down the government, and break up the country. Meanwhile, demonstrators in Benghazi claim to be in control of the city, despite yet another brutal crackdown. Human Right Watch says at least 233 people have died - with security forces continuing to use force to end the demonstrations. Al Jazeera's Tom Ackerman has the latest.

Dramatic video shows Libya rebels fighting 'Gaddafi loyalists'

Footage filmed on the road to Sirte on Monday allegedly shows rebel fighters capturing two suspected Moammar Gadhafi loyalists, who are travelling towards the checkpoint, before turning their truck around and attempting to flee under heavy fire from the rebels. One appears to be injured and immediately after escaping from the truck falls to the ground. Another alleged loyalist is seen running at the scene, repeatedly shot at by rebel fighters. After surrendering, the two suspected loyalists were taken to Misrata, rebels said. RT on Twitter: twitter.com RT on Facebook: www.facebook.com

LIBYA Libyan violence spreads to Tripoli BP Evacuates Gas Oil & Food Prices Skyrocket

PREPARE NOW! Gas & Oil destined to skyrocket! Oil Industry Braces for Fallout From Libya Libya's Impact on Oil Prices video.foxnews.com LONDON -- Oil producing nations have emergency reserves to draw on to stabilize markets in case the violence in Libya and the wider Middle East escalates to seriously affect energy production, officials said Monday. International executives and analysts meeting in London were nervously watching developments in the oil-rich region, worried about the sharp shock political unrest is giving to crude oil prices. Oil prices rocketed on Monday after Seif al-Islam Gadhafi, son of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, warned protesters on Sunday that they risked igniting a civil war in which Libya's oil wealth "will be burned." By early afternoon in Europe, benchmark crude for March delivery was up $3.10 to $89.30. David Fyfe, head of the oil industry and markets division at the International Energy Agency, stressed that the IEA has reserves of 1.6 billion barrels of oil -- equivalent to some 4 million barrels per day for the next 12 months -- that could be brought onto the market if necessary. The IEA has used government stocks to steady the oil market only twice before, during the Gulf War in 1991 and after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf of Mexico in 2005. Meanwhile, Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi is fiercely fighting to retain control of the capital as he's faced with more defections from his own regime. After more than a week of revolts, the opposition is consolidating its gains, with demonstrators taking over the east of the country. The UN Security Council and Washington have demanded an immediate end to the violence. The EU is considering sanctions against Libya for Colonel Gaddafi's bloody crackdown on protesters, after some reports say the army used airstrikes against its own people. Media Manipulation: 'NATO in a hurry to wrap up war in Libya'

NATO's presence in Libya little resembles a humanitarian mission with houses, hospitals and schools being hit. But Libya prospered prior to NATO's intrusion, Yvonne Di Vito, an activist from Libyanfriends.com told RT. RT: You have been saying that here in Italy the news reports abut what is happening in Libya were very confusing, a lot of conflicting information there. Can you tell us what you saw and what you found? Yvonne Di Vito: We went to Libya on the 28th July and we came back on the 7th August and we found a totally different situation because NATO was bombarding civilians. The bombings were not only carried out on military targets, but they also hit houses, hospitals, schools, television centers, and this was totally against the humanitarian reasons they said they were there for. I believe they were doing this to bring panic in the city. That's why they were bombing the things that people use daily, like places with food and essential utilities like hospitals. This was also a difficult period for Muslims because of Ramadan and that is why in the daytime they're in their houses.
