Alex Lifeson's Birthday 2011

Happy birthday, Lerxst, one of the greatest, albeit most underrated guitarists in rock! May it be a great day for you and all who celebrate it with you. I chose "Chemistry" both because it is an amazing song (one of my favorites from the album) and because of Alex's guitar solo. One quote I forgot to include is in the opening video on the Time Machine Tour, just before "The Spirit of Radio." Alex plays Slobovich, who is eating sausage at Gershon's restaurant. After Gershon says, "Meantime, I'll grab your sausage," Slobovich responds: "The last time someone grabbed my sausage...I had to get remarried." *Laughs* Oh, Lerxst. We love you. ~ Kahme the Rush Dork

Alex Lifeson Interview: Gibson Custom Signature Les Paul Axcess Guitar

Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson unveils the new Gibson Custom Signature Axcess Les Paul. Alex talks about the details of the guitar and about his association with Gibson Guitars throughout his musical career. Today through May 31, 2011, enter to win the Ultimate Concert Experience with Alex Lifeson: frnd.mu About Alex's Gibson Les Paul Axcess: Created through a collaboration between Gibson Guitars and Alex Lifeson himself, the Gibson Custom Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess redefines the boundaries of the classic Les Paul guitar: packed in a single remarkable instrument, this Gibson guitar carries all of the traditional tones that make the Les Paul a timeless instrument, with the addition of an incredibly versatile array of pickups, outstanding vibrato system, and sculpted heel allowing easy access to the upper frets—the sky's the limit with this sonic chameleon, whose sound-shifting depths are virtually limitless. What's more, you can route it all through a traditional mono jack (labeled "Regular") using a single guitar cable, or use two cables to split your sonic trickery off into separate output paths using the "Regular" and the "Life-O-Sound" output jacks together. The Axcess comes in your choice of two stunning colors—Viceroy Brown and Royal Crimson—both approved by Alex Lifeson himself, and both resplendent atop a stunningly figured maple top. Only 50 Alex Lifeson Axcess guitars in this very limited run (25 in each finish) will be signed by the artist himself. Reserve yours <b>...</b>

Rush ( Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson & Neil Peart ): 36 years of great music

Two days ago before going to bed I came up with an idea for a new video. I thought of choosing one song from each album and accompany them with their respective album covers in chronological order, just to commemorate the 36th anniversary of Rush. It was difficult to keep the whole thing under ten minutes but in the end ( not pun intended ) I managed to do so. : ) Track listing: 1) Workin` Man ( Rush ) 2) Anthem ( Fly By Night ) 3) Bastille Day ( Caress Of Steel ) 4) 2112 ( 2112 ) 5 - 6 ) Cygnus X-1 books I & II ( A Farewell To Kings / Hemispheres ) 7) The Spirit Of Radio ( Permanent Waves ) 8) Limelight ( Moving Pictures ) 9) Chemistry ( Signals ) 10) Distant Early Warning ( Grace Under Pressure eventhough I used the live recording from Snakes & Arrows Live! ) 11) Middletown Dreams ( Power Windows ) 12) Mission ( Hold Your Fire, same as Distant Early Warning but using the A Show Of Hands live version ) 13) The Pass ( Presto ) 14) Ghost Of A Chance ( Roll The Bones ) 15) Alien Shore ( Counterparts ) 16) Half The World ( Test For Echo ) 17) Ceiling Unlimited ( Vapor Trails ) 18) The Way The Wind Blows ( Snakes & Arrows )

Rush' Alex Lifeson in court

The Naples incident On New Year's Eve 2003, Lifeson, his son, and his daughter-in-law were arrested at the Ritz Carlton hotel in Naples, Florida. Lifeson, after intervening in an altercation between his son and police, was accused of assaulting a sheriff's deputy in what was described as a drunken brawl. In addition to suffering a broken nose at the hands of the officers, Lifeson was tasered six times. His son Justin was also tasered repeatedly. According to Justin's file in the Felony section of the Public Records database of Collier County, Florida,[9] the judge determined that, based on the testimony of the prosecution's witnesses, including one of the police officers involved in the incident, that while the potential for violence existed, none was offered by Justin. As part of the plea agreement Lifeson and his son were each sentenced to 12 months of probation with the adjudication of that probation suspended. Upon successful completion of the probation, the matter is to be expunged from their records. In addition, they had to pay all court costs. In the fall of 2005, the court granted early dismissal from probation to both Lifeson and his son. In his journal-based book Roadshow, Peart relates the band's perspective on the events of that New Years Eve. He also says the incident was and still is a traumatic event for Lifeson and his family. *For extended information, go here: www.2112.net .

Rush - Tom Sawyer (Official Music Video - 1981) [HQ]

www.youtube.com Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart. Moving Pictures 1981. From the Chronicles DVD. Original Quality of Sound and Video. The song was written by Lee, Peart, and guitarist Alex Lifeson in collaboration with Canadian lyricist Pye Dubois (the lyricist of Max Webster), who also co-wrote other Rush songs such as "Force Ten," "Between Sun and Moon," and "Test For Echo." According to the US radio show In the Studio with Redbeard (which devoted an entire episode to the making of Moving Pictures), "Tom Sawyer" came about during a summer rehearsal holiday that Rush spent at Ronnie Hawkins' farm outside Toronto. Peart was presented with a poem by Dubois named "Louis the Lawyer" (often cited as "Louis the Warrior") that he modified and expanded. Lee and Lifeson then helped set the poem to music. The unique growling sound heard in the song came from Lee's fiddling with his Oberheim OB-X synthesizer. In the December 1985 Rush Backstage Club newsletter, drummer and lyricist Neil Peart said: " Tom Sawyer was a collaboration between myself and Pye Dubois, an excellent lyricist who wrote the lyrics for Max Webster. His original lyrics were kind of a portrait of a modern day rebel, a free-spirited individualist striding through the world wide-eyed and purposeful. I added the themes of reconciling the boy and man in myself, and the difference between what people are and what others perceive them to be - namely me I guess". (Wikipedia). Lyrics... "Son of Life" a solo guitar tribute to Alex Lifeson of the band Rush by Brandon Dyke

This is a 7/8 prelude I composed as a tribute to Alex Lifeson of the band Rush. Many people who know me, know that Rush is my all time favorite band, and so I wanted to compose a tribute to my favorite guitarist! I have learned so much from his playing, and realized that you have to follow your heart with your music. When I was composing this piece I wanted to capture a minimalistic type quality with the rhythm, and I tried to use 19th century harmony found in the composers works of the Romantic period. I also used very open chords in spots, and I even used the Fmaj9 voicing that Alex used in the intro of the song "Tears" from the Album 2112. I also took a risk with the right hand fingering of this piece, I played the following pattern: p,m,a,p,a,p,m. I never use the "i" finger throughout the piece at all. I felt this fingering allowed the "p" (thumb) to accent more, and bring out the lower voices better. I hope you enjoy, Brandon Dyke www.brandondyke.com You can download a remixed version of the audio from the video for free at this link www.box.net Thanks BD
