Two years ago, Mark Linkous, the man behind Sparklehorse, took his own life. At the time I was working on a film heavily influenced by his music in tone. In the time before I started writing the film, I had been feeling incredibly depressed for a multitude of reasons. Mark became something of a spirit guide for me during this time where I felt incredibly weak. His music spoke to exactly how I felt. It made me believe that someone out there felt the same way as me. The fact that he was able to power through it and create incredibly beautiful sincere art convinced me that I had to do the same. I had to turn my weakness into something passionate and honest. And so I wrote. The night before the first shoot of the film, the news came out that Mark had passed away. I was devastated beyond words, and spent the night sitting by a pond in silence. But in that time, I decided that now more than ever, I had to keep making art. No matter how bad I thought it was, I just had to pour my heart into something to honor him. The next day, I went out and started shooting my film. And I've been writing, filming, and recording music consistently ever since. I can't thank Mark Linkous enough for the impact he has had on my life. It is truly unspeakable. In his honor, I have decided to release some piece of art every March 6th in his name. This year, I've both recorded a cover of my favorite song of his, as well as released an EP of my own songs. My music is heavily, heavily inspired by his, so <b>...</b>
