Liu Xiang was the champion !

At the World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea China's Liu Xiang has gotten off to a very solid beginning. Liu, breezing through the opening round of the 110m hurdles earlier this morning, easily moving on to the semi-final round. Liu, running in lane five...lining up alongside the defending World champion Ryan Brathwaite of Barbados. Liu, wearing his familiar Chinese red...got off to a great start in the heat. Liu, making the switch earlier this year from eight steps before the first hurdle to seven...and he looked very comfortable, cruising to the finish line in a time of 13.20 seconds to win the heat, the second best time of the morning heats. European champ Evan Turner finished in second, while Braithwaite...who has been struggling with injuries, finished fifth and was eliminated. Also moving on in the morning heats were World Record holder Dayron Robles of Cuba and America's Darren Oliver, so a potential showdown between Liu, Robles and Oliver still very much a possibility. And finally Liu had gotten the justice for it that Dayon Robles DQ !!!

Liu Xiang arrives in Daegu for World Athletics Championships CCTV News

This year's World Athletics Championships begin this weekend in South Korea. The Chinese team of 58 athletes is headlined by hurdler Liu Xiang. The Chinese squad arrived in the host city of Daegu on Thursday. Scores of local Chinese greeted Liu and the Chinese delegation at Daegu Airport. The 2004 Athens Olympic champion and former world record holder has his sights set on coming home from South Korea as the world champion. But to achieve that he will have to outclass American David Oliver, along with Brazil's Dayron Robles -- which will be no easy feat. Liu has also set a goal of trying to race in under 13 seconds, something that is achievable since he altered his starting tactics this year. The change in strategy helped him capture gold at the Shanghai Grand Prix, but was only good enough for silver at a Diamond League meet in the US state of Oregon. The men's 110 meter final is slated for Monday. Information provided by cctv.com Thank you www.cctv.com To watch CCTV News 24 live news feed click here: english.cntv.cn www.youtube.com

Liu Xiang second at Prefontaine Classic Diamond League CCTV News

American David Oliver avenged a May loss to former Olympic and world champion Liu Xiang of China with a 2011-leading time of 12.94 seconds in the 110 meters hurdles at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League Meet on Saturday. Liu came second in 13 seconds flat with American Aries Merritt third in 13.18. Liu, the former world record holder, appeared to take advantage of his new starting technique to take the early lead over Oliver. By the third hurdle, however, the American record was in command. Liu, who his coach says still feels foot pain from a 2008 surgery, had beaten Oliver by clocking 13.07 seconds in Shanghai to snap the American's 18 race win streak. Liu said he is happy with his time, but expressed disappointment with his finish. Information provided by cctv.com Thank you www.cctv.com http

To the world of track and Chinese hurdler Liu Xiang has been focusing on this month's Asian Championships in Japan. But, before he gets there he wants some more practice to perfect his new start which has been adjusted from eight to seven steps. The 19th Asian Championships will be the third official competition for Liu Xiang since adjusting his start in February. His first two events took place at Diamond League meets in Shanghai in May and in the US last month. Liu raced well at both meets, clocking in at 13.07 and 13 seconds at the events. His time of 13 seconds is his best result since his injury four years ago. Liu Xiang said, "I expect a good result at the Asian Championships. The result is not as important to me. Liu Xiang healthy, Back to training CCTV News

For the last couple of years, the stories surrounding Chinese hurdling superstar Liu Xiang have focussed on his health and his recovery from an injured achilles tendon. But, it is starting to look like those health questions may be a thing of the past. After a busy start to his year, Liu is feeling healthy and looking relaxed. Four races in 48 hours, then three training sessions in 24 hours. Liu Xiang finally seems to be back to the life he knew before his injury, which is - competition after training, and training after competition. Liu Xiang, Former Olympic Champion, said, "I think it's fine. It's just what training is like, and it's what being an athlete is like. I'm not tired. It's ok when it turns into a habit. I will feel uneasy if I don't work out. It's actually my job. I have gotten used to it." With his injury issues seemingly behind him, Liu is free to focus on his form. Liu's coach, confirming that they no longer choose their meets based on his health. Sun Haiping, Liu Xiang's Coach, said, "From now on, we can participate in any competition we want to. Not like in the period since 2008 when we had a long time to consider his attendance in a competition, whether it was doable or not. " Liu Xiang, Former Olympic Champion, said, "I don't have much - any problems with my body right now. I am very healthy. " Sun Haiping, Liu Xiang's Coach, said, "The situation this year, with Liu Xiang's foot condition for example, looking to the past, if his foot was the same as ...

Robles, the Olympic champion and world record holder, crossed the finishing line first in the men's 110m hurdles final, but had his gold medal take away after judges upheld an appeal from the Chinese contingent after replays showed that the Cuban held back Liu Xiang. "If I were from another country that had more power, that wouldn't have happened," Robles was quoted as telling The Associated Press on Tuesday. "It's very controversial that these things happen in an athletics world championships, lamentably it was my turn to lose out." He added: "You can always get hit, you open your arms and there's always contact. I've had races where I've collided with (American hurdler David) Oliver, with the same Chinese (Liu), that's normal and all the athletes know it."

Liu Xiang? Still World's Greatest Hurdler?

www.worldbizwatch.info http www.starathletes.info His name is Liu Xiang -- just 25 years old, but carrying the dreams of 1.3 billion people. Liu is China's reigning Olympic Champion in the 110 meter hurdles. And he is China's best hope for winning Gold in Track & Field. But is the pressure too great for any one person to bear? In recent months, according to the Times of London, Liu is no longer the UNQUESTIONED FAVORITE What happened? First, injury. Just two months before the Beijing Games, a sore hamstring forced Liu to pull out of a big event in New York. Soon after, Liu was disqualified from another race due to a false start -- his third in as many races. His coach said it was a small mistake, Liu was just too eager to run well. But on top of all this, his rivals are breathing down his back. Just recently, one Cuban athlete broke Liu's World record, and one American came close to breaking it too. Some believe defeat would be a disaster for Liu, and his country, which treats him like a superstar celebrity -- rivaled only by his friend, the Great Yao Ming. But Liu says he will use the recent setbacks as motivation to excel. He may take the advice of Australia's Gold Medal runner Cathy Freeman, who faced similar pressure during the Sydney Games. Liu, she says, should ignore all expectations and treat the races as another day in the office. He also follows in the footsteps of another role model -- Michael Jordan -- and rely on his own proven ability to thrive under ...
