Lorca locals sleep on the streets after quake
An earthquake has rocked a small town in Spain badly damaging its ancient church. Eight people died with two more left in a critical condition after the 5.3 magnitude tremor shock the tourist town of Lorca. Ambulances rushed to help people, many of the dead were crushed in cars or by falling debris. The whole of the centre of the town was affected. Shocked residents and workers rushed out of buildings and gathered in squares, parks and open spaces. Earlier a milder quake of 4.4 had hit the town. ... www.euronews.net

Francisco Jodar, the town's mayor, told radio station Ser of the first reported fatalities. "Unfortunately, we can confirm... deaths due to cave-ins and falling debris," he said. Μια ρεαλιστική απεικόνιση της εκτέλεσης των 200 κομμουνιστών, των έγκλειστων στο στρατόπεδο Χαϊδαρίου, από τους Γερμανούς (1/5/1944), της ομαδικής σφαγής των κατοίκων του Διστόμου Βοιωτίας απ' τους ναζιστές και ταγματασφαλίτες (10/6/1944). Ο θάνατος του μεγάλου Ισπανού ποιητή Λόρκα από τους φρανκιστές (Αύγ. 1936) τον συγκλονίζει: «Κι απάνω στη φοράδα σου δεμένος σταυρωτά... / μέσα από τα διψασμένα της χωράφια τ' ανοιχτά...». Ο ποιητής της θάλασσας Ν. Καββαδίας είναι περισσότερο γνωστός απ' τα ποιήματα της θάλασσας, παρά απ' τη δράση του... Μετά την είσοδο των Ναζί στην Αθήνα, ο Νίκος Καββαδίας βρέθηκε στις γραμμές του ΚΚΕ.Εντάχθηκε στο ΕΑΜ, αρχικά στο ΕΑΜ Ναυτικών και αργότερα στο ΕΑΜ Λογοτεχνών -Ποιητών. Στην περίοδο της Κατοχής ο Νίκος Καββαδίας δημοσίευσε και τα αντιστασιακά του ποιήματα με πρώτο το «Αθήνα 1943», ενώ το 1944 δημοσίευσε το ποίημα «Στον τάφο του ΕΠΟΝίτη». Το 1945 δημοσίευσε το «Φεντερίκο Γκαρθία Λόρκα», και το ποίημα «Αντίσταση». Λίγο πριν από το πραξικόπημα της 21ης Απριλίου 1967 έδωσε μια μεγάλη συνέντευξη στο περιοδικό «Πανσπουδαστική» όπου αφιέρωσε και το ποίημα του «Σπουδαστές».
