Lou Gehrig Speech

www.friends4captbob.com Lou Gehrig's speech is included in the Friends 4 Captain Bob playlist, created in honor of Bob Monette. Like Lou Gehrig, Capt. Bob was Diagnosed 3 years ago with ALS, he has progressively lost the use of his legs. We have all found tremendous inspiration in the daily battles Bob faces, championing each hurdle in this journey. Unfortunately ALS demands more from it's patients & families then is humanly possible. As Captain Bob's neighbors, friends & supporters, we are here to help raise awareness, foster his miraculous spirit and help acquire the essential adaptive equipment necessary. The 4 ALS Tribute to Henry Lou Gehrig. July 4th, 2009 on the 70th anniversary of his speech: Fans, for the past two weeks you have been reading about the bad break I got. Yet today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of this earth. I have been in ballparks for seventeen years and have never received anything but kindness and encouragement from you fans. "Look at these grand men. Which of you wouldn't consider it the highlight of his career just to associate with them for even one day? Sure, I'm lucky. Who wouldn't consider it an honor to have known Jacob Ruppert? Also, the builder of baseball's greatest empire, Ed Barrow? To have spent six years with that wonderful little fellow, Miller Huggins? Then to have spent the next nine years with that outstanding leader, that smart student of psychology, the best manager in baseball today, Joe McCarthy? Sure, I'm lucky. "When the New York Giants, a team you would give your right arm to beat, and vice versa, sends you a gift - that's something. When everybody down to the groundskeepers and those boys in white coats remember you with trophies - that's something. When you have a wonderful mother-in-law who takes sides with you in squabbles with her own daughter - that's something. When you have a father and a mother who work all their lives so you can have an education and build your body - it's a blessing. When you have a wife who has been a tower of strength and shown more courage than you dreamed existed - that's the ...

CIRM has funded the ALS Disease Team led by scientists at UC San Diego, The Salk Institute, and Life Technologies Corporation who aim to bring a human embryonic stem cell based ALS therapy to clinical trials within four years. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, is a progressive motor neuron disorder. Most people with ALS die within 3 to 5 years from the onset of symptoms. 2009 Lou Gehrig Memorial Award

Each year, the Phi Delta Theta International Fraternity presents the Lou Gehrig Memorial Award to the Major League Baseball Player who best exemplifies the spirit and character of Brother Lou Gehrig, both on and off the field. This award is the first and only officially sanctioned Major League Baseball award given to ballplayers by a fraternity. Lou Gehrig was a distinguished member of Phi Delta Theta and a man of integrity. The award was created to acknowledge an individual players outstanding commitment to both his community and philanthropy. Since the awards inception in 1955, the name of each recipient has been placed on the permanent Gehrig Award plaque, located at the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York. The Lou Gehrig Memorial Award Committee, a team of alumni brothers associated in some capacity with Major League Baseball, selects the recipient. Though any active Major League Baseball player is eligible to receive a vote on his behalf, the committee does utilize a nomination process. The suggested nominees consist of the most qualified candidates submitted to the committee, including nominations from a players team, Phi Delt alumni clubs, and individuals. 2008 Lou Gehrig Memorial Award Winner Shane Victorino, Philadelphia Phillies Shane Victorino, of the Philadelphia Phillies, has won this years Lou Gehrig Memorial Award. He will be presented the award by representatives of Phi Delta Theta and the Philadelphia Chapter of the ALS Association ...

WFMY News 2 - Teacher Battles Lou Gehrig's Disease

It started with a twitch in his arm. Three years later, Joe Bozovich, who suffers from ALS, can barely move his body. "I was always on the go," said Bozovich, referring to life before ALS took over his body. "There was no place that I would rather be than in the classroom." Bozovich, a teacher at Bluford Elementary in Greensboro, says the disease forced him to leave the classroom in February. "I think that was harder than the ALS," he said. "When I told my children I was leaving, I cried and cried and cried." Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease." The disease affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to a loss of muscle control and movement. It can also cause paralysis and death.

Unfortunately the sound quality was very poor during the interviews, but I did the best with what I had. Comments appreciated.
