Joan Baez : Sad-Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands
From her 1968 album, "Any Day Now: Songs of Bob Dylan", Joan Baez sings the song Dylan wrote for Sara Lownds, the woman he began seeing after his love relationship with Baez ended. "Sad-Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands" was the closing song on Dylan's 1966 album, "Blonde On Blonde". Joan Baez recorded her Dylan tribute in a Nashville studio cutting country-inflected renditions of 16 Dylan songs. She was backed by Pete Drake, David Briggs, Norbert Putnam, Jerry Reed, Stephen Stills, and others. "Any Day Now" remains one of Baez's essential recordings.

Sia dedicated this song to Jessica (Feyth85), Erwin and Quartermass (That's me, Eddy aka Raffy2006). The dedication wasn't filmed but I've put the audiorecording infront of this clip. We weren't there because we didn't know we were invited but we were at the Zero7 gig in the 'Melkweg' in Amsterdam on july 4th 2006. We were also on the guestlist there and we met Sia before and after the gig. We are regular posters on the Sia-boards (www.siamusic.net) where Sia herself also regularly posts and answers questions. Joan Baez ~ SAD-EYED LADY OF THE LOWLANDS ~ Dylan. A redo is in the making. I asked and YouTube refuse to grant me another minute and a half for the song to finish. It`sa pity. I think this is one of Joan`s most expressive interpretation of a Dylan song. Hear the Dylan version, and then the Baez version. Hear Baez`s soaring soprano, her endurance and urgency she brings to the song cut short. Still her vocal range is displayed beautifully.
